Hello Everyone,

Firstly, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Just Cause 4 to date. We're a small but very passionate team here at Avalanche Studios New York, and each and every one of us has put our hearts into this project for the past three years.

Due to the complexity of Just Cause 4's vast open world and advanced physics systems we understand that a number of you are experiencing various technical issues. Even though the game has now launched, this is just the start of our continued support on Just Cause 4. We are actively monitoring your feedback very closely and have a team of engineers at Avalanche Studios working hard on updating and improving the game. Once these fixes have been through internal and first party tests then we'll be rolling them out ASAP.

In good news, we are already planning to release the first wave of improvements and aiming to have these available to everyone in the next couple of weeks. Here is an overview of some of the updates we are working on:

Xbox One & PS4

  • Fixes to some motion blur rendering issues
  • Add a motion blur toggle to the options menu (following user requests)
  • Improvements to the overall visual quality on both Xbox One and PS4
  • Fixes to some texture mapping issues
  • Other graphical improvements, such as smoother vegetation transitions
  • Various stability fixes
  • Lighting updates to some cut scenes
PC

  • Improvements to menu navigation for mouse and keyboard users
  • Support for remapping of movement keys
  • Improved vegetation rendering and asset updates
  • Fixes to some texture mapping issues
  • Increased mouse sensitivity range
  • Corrected specialised vehicle support for mouse and keyboard players
  • Fixed issue with steering flying vehicles with keyboard
  • Numerous stability fixes
We are aware of many other issues being reported and are prioritising tasks as best we can so you will continue to see further updates.

If you are experiencing issues then please contact the customer support teams who are also providing direct feedback to us:
Europe: http://support.eu.square-enix.com
North America: http://support.na.square-enix.com
Japan: http://support.jp.square-enix.com

We really appreciate your support and feedback on Just Cause 4, we will continue to monitor this and will keep you all updated along the way.

Good on them for communicating and being open about it. It's all they can do at this point.

I'm glad they're being more up front this time, but the game clearly shouldn't have shipped in this state. The HDR on XBX is so overblown in cutscenes that I have a hard time actually seeing people's faces. It's just an oily sheen over every surface.

That's nice they're being open with the community.

Also: This is the thread that I notice game shots in the thread title bars. I'm guessing those are auto-generated... That's kinda neat. (edit: Oh, right... I forgot about custom covers)

Been playing on X and have been enjoying my time so far with it but yeah this game has some crazy rendering issues...was surprised how bad some of the geometry pop in is compared to previous entries. Glad they're taking the time to smooth all of those issues out.

I'm so fucking sick of games coming out unfinished like this. I just want to be able to buy a videogame and know that it will work properly, without any of this "this is just the beginning of our ongoing support" bullshit. $60 should get you a finished product, not an entry ticket to phase 1 of their shitty release strategy.

how could they fuck up 2 games in a row??

I would have bet a lot after JC3 that they would have taken the time to make sure JC4 was at least in a good state

My conspiracy theory is that Square-Enix wanted the game out for the holiday crowd but Avalanche didn't have the time, so they just cut all the high res textures from the release build with the intent to patch them in later after they've made sure the performance doesn't tank. That would explain how the pre-release footage looked so much better.

Ok then maybe I will pick it up soon. Didn't like what I was hearing about the graphics on release.

The pre-rendered cutscenes also have low res textures:

Also, texture detial doesn't tank performance, its just wether it fits in the frame buffer or not. If they were to quickly downgrade the graphics before release, it'd have been resolution/AA or some other demanding graphical effect.

I wonder if Squeenix forced shipping before Christmas or what the hell

Launching two games in a row in a bad technical state is gonna do a number on your sales and reputation guys

I'll take some less than stellar visuals compared to the slide show we got with JC3.

I'm really enjoying JC4 - it's largely a return to form and hopefully the visual issues will be remedied soon.

I'm sorry but "release it now, fix it later" is not even remotely acceptable.

For me, this is what is making physical copies less valuable. I like to buy physical copies of games in the hope that they will be playable years in the future, just like how I can play my NES games today (and do!), but when games get released with such huge patches it makes if feel like what's on the disc is less useful for that purpose. I do appreciate continued support post-release, though.

SE western output has been so awful, its been noting but disappointment and garbage lately, Does the western branch even give a shit anymore? I can't imagine how shit the avengers game is going to be.

For me the reason that I didn't even think about getting JC4 was that JC3 was left in such an awful state. They patched it, made it worse, and then just left it like that. There isn't any reason to have any confidence in this team.

Same here. Loved JC2 on 360 and picked up JC3 PS4 on launch day only to be disappointed with the performance of the game. Looks like i dodged a bullet with this one. Might pick up later on if the issues are fixed.

Here's hoping the swedish team does a better job on Rage 2 than NY did with this game or at least on par with Mad Max (had some issues but were fixed).

Did JC3 have issues at launch that got fixed? I played JC3 on PC and it ran smoothly @ 60fps the whole time, no real issues that I can remember. I played it somewhat recently though.

I played JC3 last summer on PS4 Pro and didn't run into any noticeable technical issues at all. Really enjoyed the game, and will definitely grab JC4 sometime next year when I'm done with RDR2.

They managed to make JC3 worse over time so I'm not very confident in their promises to fix JC4.

Wait, is the PC version of this game broken? I was going to get this for my boyfriend for Christmas, but if he's going to have a bad time then I might hold off.

Comparing this to the Disaster that was Just cause 3 is completely missing the mark, at least for the console versions. It was almost unplayable due to its frame rate, stumbling into the 15-20fps region every time something exploded. Now we have a game that is pretty much locked 30fps on pro and x, has only few dips on ps4 and while it has more problems on x1, going down to 26fps heavily in the action (digital foundry noted it once got down to 24 very shortly but that seemed to have been an exception) it's still perfectly playable if obviously pimped by the lack black CPU and ram in that console.

I played both games at launch now and Just Cause 4 is a huge improvement technology-wise. Graphical bugs here and there are just no comparison to what Just Cause 3 was. Again, I can only talk about the console versions. It's a game I would have no problems recommending in it's current state.

Honestly, this and their RAGE 2 are hard pass for me, no matter what reviews say. These days usually critics don't have balls to talk about the glaring issues of some AAA games in their reviews.

Check the steam user reviews. Most of the people are refunding it.

I actually had no problems with JC3 on PC, I enjoyed my time with the game. JC4 is a huge step back graphically, I really hope they bring out a fix soon, I can't stand the ugly flat mesh water, especially after the water in JC3...
