I really want to read them again. Especially with the tease of next year for the next book and how the end of the show was handled...but I can't remember if I brought all the books with me when I moved house last year and I too cheap to buy them all again if I didn't.
Maybe I'll just read Dunk and Egg again.
But in that case don't all the actors look like the book characters anyway? I mean I don't really get what you are saying.I purposefully didn't list Robert Baratheon because the show incarnation is so perfect already. Just make him 6 foot 6 and he is Book! Robert Baratheon walking out the page.
It's also why I decided not to include Varys and Littlefinger.
Varys looks exactly the same .
I debated on whether to include Littlefinger since Aiden just looks like an older Littlefinger from the books. Just de-age LF's actor to 29 and swap out the mustache for a pointy beard and you have Book! Littlefinger.
I would not recommend that. The books are not written to be read in that order; each of them has its own distinct themes. Can I ask, when we get to book 4/5, if anyone's interested in using The Ball of Beasts reading order?

Curse you, i bought this on the kindle app since i like the way that kindle lays out text but now i went and got this version for the maps. The kindle app does have something similar to this but no map stuff. Double dipping but that's ok, GRRM deserves it.If anyone doesn't have A Game of Thrones yet and doesn't mind reading digital books (and has an Apple device), I definitely recommend looking into the Enhanced Edition on the iBooks store. Has a lot of handy features, like showing you where on the map a chapter is taking place, and letting you tap a character's name for some context on them. Here are some examples from the prologue of the book:
There are also occasional illustrations of the events. It's very, very cool.
I'm excited to eventually read Fire & Blood. It sounds like it's really good.
Might join in on this, have already re-read the series 30+ times so why not again :)
I'm currently working on combining Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons into my own new version of the 4th book + possibly also doing some light editing to it. I already only re-read Ball of Beasts for books 4/5 but even that isn't quite what I want at this point in my fandom. Gonna streamline it more.
Take a shot every time he describes what a character is wearing in excruciatingly unnecessary detail.
If memory serves he stopped doing it some time around book #4.
I have the hard back dance with dragons ,rest in paperback. The hardback is an unwieldly beast. Feel like I always needs to have it splayed on the table to read, if you're a bedtime reader it doesn't work. If you settle into a nice recliner or something you'll probably be okay, but it's huge. Not to mention it's so many pages I'm always terrified pages will come undone from the spine. It's what happened with my Harry Potter books goblet of fire and on, also hardcoverI think this could work for me. I don't wanna spend all my time reading Thrones so soon after the show, and have plenty I want to read besides that. Do people recommended the hardback or paperback for any particular reason?
This is what I tell people and they never believe me. It is a remarkably "simple" read, the scale, themes and story are epic but the prose and style is wonderful and not at all "dense". As the anthethisis of that, I love lord of the rings but ughDamn I'm really hooked and the reading is easy, wasn't expecting this. I'm heading towards Ned I tonight, for now the show is a 1:1 adaptation.

The Other said something in a language that Will did not know, his voice was like the cracking of ice on a winter lake, and the words were mocking.
Awww that's a shame.Unfortunately, yeah. I tried seeing if the Enhanced Editions of the books are available on any other devices, but everything I've read says that they're exclusive to Apple.
download a ball of beasts
So, i wasn't sure if i remembered this correctly, but:
The Others do talk. I was expecting the Night King to talk in the show and i knew there was a reason lol. I expect Martin's version of the Others to be much more interesting.
The World of Ice and Fire app is a nice supplement with (seemingly) a lot of the same extras from the Enhanced Editions of the books, and then some. Definitely recommend looking into that. It's available on Android as well as iOS:
Speaking of apps, another neat thing is the World of Ice and Fire app (I'm not talking about the book) for Android and iOS. It's basically an official encyclopedia for the series with all sorts of information regarding characters, locations, events, the various houses, creatures, religions, etc. It also has some very nice artwork in it, as well as interactive maps of the world that you can look over.
You'll probably find more information and all of the artwork by looking at things like the Wiki of Ice and Fire, but one neat feature of the app is that you can select which book you've read up to. That way, any spoilery information from books you haven't read is omitted, and you don't stumble upon something you aren't meant to know yet. Unfortunately, information from each book is locked behind a paywall, but you can purchase the whole thing for $4.99 USD, or individually for $0.99 each (except for AGoT's content, which is $1.99).

Yeah, I saw your post on that before. I may try that but I Googled some info on how to read iBooks on PC and see if that works. If not, then I'll definitely check out The World of Ice and Fire app.The World of Ice and Fire app is a nice supplement with (seemingly) a lot of the same extras from the Enhanced Editions of the books, and then some. When they find the dire wolf cubs Ned is telling the kids that the cubs may die no matter how well they take care of them. And Robb replying that won't die because they won't let them. Somehow Robb's reply echoes the unsuspecting reader believing that the characters you love can't possibly die.
Probably outside the scope of this thread but I actually just finished reading Fire and Blood. Which is a book GRRM wrote a few years ago that talks about the history of the Targaryens in Westeros. Covers tons of stuff and gives interesting context to Westeros too. Oh but it ends before you'd get to stuff covered in the other book that acts as a guide to Westeros. And well before the main books begin as well. So if anyone here is looking for a new book to read in the universe and hasn't givin it a spin. It's pretty worth it!
