So I'm reading the actual number is higher but they couldn't actually process all claims on time in some states?

Did the stimulus bill have a plan for making sure every one losing their job has healthcare?

This is my big fear. With our savings, my wife and I could get by for a good while financially. But, if she loses her job, our health insurance is gone. At which point us getting covid19 is like instant bankruptcy if we were to require a hospital stay... and not die.

I think this Coronavrius shit will be the end for Trump. The economy was one the biggest reasons to vote for a incumbent.

Yea most have to go out and hope they dont get sick else it could devastate their families. Or maybe they have no work due to closings and still need to pay for food, rent and utilities like the rest of us without a stimulus bill that can help them. Shit sucks man.

Damn. Even the US will need a huge deficit this year and the next one.

I can't even imagine how this virus will impact economies like Spain and especially Italy which isn't even allowed to spend money pretty much.

Which is why he's desperate to get the economy back up and running as soon as possible, sacrificing whatever lives it takes.

...and Cheeto adds NJ to his blame list. "Not my fault! I'm perfect! Perfect economy! These governors won't open their states! Not my fault!"

Yeah Murphy pretty much alluded to that in the interview I was reading with him lol

I can't imagine the economy doing much with most of the Northeast still down.

But we can't blame the virus on the president, unless enough people aren't happy with how it was handled. I wonder if that changes things (in previous times it might have been easier to blame it on the administration if it seemed within their control?)

On the bright side, maybe this crisis will frontload the job losses in the beginning of the recession, and recover somewhat quickly. Unemployment peaked nearly a year after the 2008 financial crisis happened, if I remember correctly. That was a slow bleedout. This time the job numbers could begin climbing around May or June.
This pandemic is a once-in-a-century, global catastrophe. There's not going to be anything "quick" about the recovery from this, no matter how much we want it to be so. You're looking at years for getting back to commensurate levels--if we're lucky.

If the government step up and actually implement public welfare/socialist policy along with widespread enforced lockdown? Sure.

If they don't? Not likely.

Some of the health care providers have acted to extend coverage for those being laid off during this time. Worst case scenario, you could also enroll in COBRA (assuming you're a US resident).

He'll just keep saying this is why we have to go back to work. He'll keep pressing that, and then blame the states for keeping the lockdowns that drag his perfect economy down.

Trump is going to start blaming the states and governors. Especially NY and CA. He's been laying the groundwork all week.
How to spin and blame Obama? 🤔

Hopefully the unemployment matters, but so far many polls on the virus response show majority of voters approve of his handling and are buying his blaming of other countries and governors. They think this would have gone worse with anyone else.

As has been said, It's WAY too early to make any conclusions based on a few polls.

Dow up 4% right now, they certainly knew what was coming. Citi predicted 4M losses, Morgan Stanley 3.4M. At the other end, UBS predicted 860K.

Seems kind of unbelievably low given that Canada was around 900k and Cali was 1M.

Either this number has been uh, heavily massaged downward, or uhh even worse it's accurate but that means so many people are staying on the job when they should really be at home.

So just to put it into perspective...

- Over half of the people in the US with health insurance get it exclusively from their jobs.
- COVID-19 causes unemployment numbers to skyrocket into record numbers, mirroring the Great Depression.
- Millions upon millions of people are now without health insurance.
- COVID-19 testing and treatment without insurance is a spiraling debt pit, scaring many into not seeking healthcare even with possible symptoms out of fear of bankruptcy.

This is, without a doubt, one of the biggest examples of why Medicare For All should be an absolute requirement in the US.
