I’m trying not to get my hopes up for the new consoles because I’m imagining it’s going to be hard to find one for a while.
There was also the rumour of XSX launching in September but whatever the plans I would think it's now November for both.
I don’t believe it one second, They don’t seems to be ready at all, November or December is more likely

If it’s true, they must be planning heavy marketing soon. Since that puts us at 5 months out which is kinda crazy with how little info there still is on the thing.
You make it seem like the jump from October to November is massive.
Some EB Games clerk in Australia was telling customers they are taking "pre-preorders" for Xbox Series X because they got word it's releasing in October. As in, he said it straight to me.

It's going to be crazy busy/crunch for marketing for the next 5-6 months.
I think OP is just talking about the Dirt 5 launch window which is from October 2020. Doesn't really say much because the word from indicates not at all SKUs will be launching in October, suggesting one or more of the next-gen consoles will be launching later than October.
The world is more connected than ever, you don't need several months for hardware marketing (see smartphones). I don't buy the october release completely, it could be an old release target that has moved because of Covid19.
I would be very happy with this, one thing I quite disliked during the last transition is how most if not most of the holiday's heavy hitters hit weeks before the next-gen's release, which meant you had to choose between playing the inferior PS3/X360 version or waiting a few weeks while dancing around the spoilers. It would be absolutely great if the PS5 hits the market before or at the same time most of those games are out.
Sure up to a point and I assume a lot of prep has already been done in the background for the last months/year, but when the marketing push does kick in it is going to be especially crazy doing it all during a pandemic.
