People somehow having difficulty reading his tweet just goes to show schools cant teach people how to read english...holy crap.
Given the context of the previous tweet, and that this tweet was one requesting clarification of it, then yes holy crap at people not trusting Greenberg to be upfront and honest in his information dispersal. He's good at what he does and how he does it, you often have to consider alternative readings of the stuff he offers.

Which is what I said, it remains to be seen how they'll do this year. And the other thing I said remains true: their last 2 months were great. Not sure why it was necessary to point out the rest of the year was not? We knew that for a while.
Because your post appeared to be painting a rosier picture than reality. November and December are pretty much in line with previous holiday months, but with the launch of a brand new world's most powerful console added in. xbox one didn't top sales in a single month of 2017. So I see no pace and no upturn in fortunes from a purely objective standpoint. xbox one sales have also now dipped below aligned 360 sales.

Xbox always seems to do great during the holidays. Hope they start to have better sales year round though.

Let's clarify some things.

1. This is units.
2. This is data from NPD for the U.S. market.

What's the takeaway from this?

The Switch had a strong December and has now sold 4.8 million units in the US as of the end of 2017. This makes it the fastest selling home console over the first 10 months in the US. It is extremely successful.

Xbox One had its best November ever thanks to the launch of Xbox One X. The continued momentum, alongside a $189 deal for the One S, allowed it to achieve strong sales in the U.S. during December too, outselling the PS4.

The PS4 had its best month ever in the U.S. during November thanks to $199 deals. Sales declined in December as those same deals weren't available. Despite that the console saw global annual sell through increase 15% YoY to 20.2 million.

So what's the final takeaway? Nintendo is doomed.

This is the very definition of PR spin. He's using useless quantifiers to make the XBO #1 in a narrow range of attributes. It's like saying McDs sold the most burgers when the question is about overall fast food sales regardless of what is sold.
I thought that PR spin would be something like " we decimated our competition* "

*Except Switch

Or something like that.

Imagine reading this during the Wiiu era. Hard to believe Nintendo turned it around so well.

Sad that we need a breakdown of a straight forward tweet. Lol

After a strong November at $199, PS4s we're likely supply constrained.

There were tons of ps4 on shelves. It was the $199 deal gave them the boost to edge out xbox in November they likely wouldn't have without it.
A fellow poster who follows NPD closely mentioned xbox took December by about 250k units or so in another thread. (he wasnt sure on nintendo at the time) So holiday sales between both companies is fairly similar.
Nintendo taking December makes sense though as there was no need to rush out and buy a switch in November when it wasn't on sale and most Christmass shopping is done in December.

Very good post. I don't see why it is ultimately needed since I thought the tweet was clear and open enough already but still.

I'm not familiar with the guy but why are people so skeptic of him? Has he lied in the past? I don't see why you would take the extreme in not trusting a word he says otherwise...

TLDR: Video games are selling boatloads and setting records! Everybody wins!

Seriously guys lighten the hell up and take solace in the fact that the hobby y'all clearly enjoy is more profitable and prominent than most would've ever guessed. Nobody loses here.

That's awesome. Good for Nintendo. Always makes me happy to see them do well and they truly deserve success with the Switch. It's a great product. Happy to see Microsoft have some success as well. I absolutely loved the 360 and think it was one of the most influential consoles of all time. It has been disappointing watching them be such a different company, with a different vision, than the one that delivered the 360. Although, I think they are working hard to get back to that original mindset.

Its clear the switch is a 9th generation console.

8th gen = WiiU, Xbox One Family, PS4 Family.

9th gen = Switch

Either way, the industry is very healthy. Every console is doing well.

Here's the full translation broken down to finally clear this up:

"Was trying to just thank folks for supporting us"
Was trying to just thank folks for supporting in the U.S.

"and the incredible success following the launch of Xbox One X."
And the incredible success of other companies following the launch of Xbox One X

"But"
Ass

"yes Xbox outsold PS4 in December"
We won!

"for Gen 8 consoles"
We won second place!

"according to NPD data"
We REALLY won second place!

"while Nintendo also had a great month as Switch had most overall units."
Yep. Second place... Go team!

This isn't PR speak, it's actually pretty clear. His previous tweet is the one that was PR-ified to hell and back.

I feel like his original tweet should be in the OP for context, since the tweet he's replying to was itself a reply to his original tweet.

Funny how the people accusing him of spinning are the ones doing the most.

Xbox > PS4
Switch > All

Thats all - no need to get offended. All 3 Players are doing good right now (in the US).

2. This is data from NPD for the U.S. market.

What's the takeaway from this?

The Switch had a strong December and has now sold 4.8 million units in the US as of the end of 2017. This makes it the fastest selling home console over the first 10 months in the US. It is extremely successful.

Xbox One had its best November ever thanks to the launch of Xbox One X and the continued momentum, alongside a $189 deal for the One S, allowed it to achieve strong sales in the U.S. during December too, outselling the PS4.

Nice summary. The final takeaway is that the industry is very much booming.

All three now have strong offerings and their own USPs going forward, and it looks like all three are here to stay, with the success of Switch, Xbox finally getting investment again, and PlayStation being consistent as always. This is great for the industry, after what felt like unhealthy hardware sales just a couple of years ago with only Sony showing any traction.
What a weird thread. Tweet is incredibly straightforward
You should try the PUBG '3 million players' thread!

Sometimes I wonder if it's time for the consoles to end.

Remember arcades!? Ps2 destroyed arcades.

With portable game systems as powerfull as console, people will start to chose more and more portable consoles like switch than consoles. I know we will lost in graphics, but so we did with arcades.

Indeed. There are some incredibly bitter and twisted people on here it seems. The industry is health.

Be happy that what you enjoy is more than sustaining three companies and consoles.

No need for the constant warring and snark.

Obviously the latter. A lot of users on this board have trouble accepting when MS is successful. The PUBG sales thread is another example of this, just some crazy logic and excuses thrown around there.
