Medical experts say [...] "Fortnite" can be as addictive as heroin.

They even say it can get in the way of your child's brain development.

Health experts say the thing about these games is it gets kids' dopamine systems involved--and it releases addictive chemicals which are very similar to a drug addiction.

[...]

Many of the kids tested were teenage boys.
One, for example, admitted that he continued to play Fortnite even as a tornado swept through his neighborhood. And only when power lines started coming down did his family members push him off the game and rushed him to shelter.

Does this mean porn and jacking it are as dangerous as heroin as well?

Cause god knows that's had a bigger detrimental impact to my health than video games.

Also, I'm proud of you channel 8.

They are correct. Any videogame or pleasurable experience can elicit similar dopamine reactions to illicit drugs.

The problem is parents not taking away the gaming console.

Oh your gonna bitch and complain? That will be an extra week without it.

lmao, OP's post is basically the entire article. Not bashing the OP, but rather how thin of content and lacking of citation their report is. Also, who the fuck is KRON? The article is apparently written by KRON.

Um no. I've been addicted to multiplayer games before and it's not even close to drug addiction.

People shit on studies that criticize what games to do people, but the fact is playing/doing anything for a long period of time at a young age has dramatic effects on how people consume/perceive the world as they grow up.

I would love to see studies on games with rapid turnarounds and zero wait time for gameplay to older multiplayer games that had rounds where dead players had to wait.

Why would you edit the quote like that?

Here's the actual paragraph
Medical experts say video games like the popular one called "Fortnite" can be as addictive as heroin.

They even say it can get in the way of your child's brain development
There's nothing shocking or inflammatory against video games here

I can just imagine a parent finding a controller, picking it up gingerly with two fingers, then shoving it into the face of their kid and cry-screaming, "HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THE FORTNITE!?!?"

God I hate modern journalism
From the article: "It literally causes cravings that they can't live without it, and they just get obsessed with it."

As an actual recovering heroin addict, I fucking hate these articles. I know that addiction is a whole broad spectrum of awful and suffering is relative and subjective, but seriously: fuck off.

4 years rid of the shit and I still think about it a minimum of 10 times a day. Fuck.

I guess Pokémon crystal and Pokémon TCG on GB were my heroine back in the day.

Luckily. I had parents that didn't let me play that much. Only given extended play times on weekends and holidays. School nights depended on chores and school work.

I played diablo a few hours a day at least from the age of 7-12. It was incredibly detrimental to my health. A lot o things people do today are.

That being said I've had a friend and an ex die from heroine, the title of this article isn't even a little funny. Fuck off ABC

As a former IV heroin user for multiple years, this is a joke. I don't see fortnite players homeless, on the side of the road holding a sign begging for money to get their next fix because they lost everything due to their addiction.
