Awesome OP! Thanks Emily! Missed that from the old place. Already got some of them for my Switch.

Question to all those NeoGeo veterans: Which are must haves or at least recommendable?

Wow, this is an OT I didn't even know I wanted. Fine work, Emily, and thank you so much for the breakdown of the games! I have already bought a few of my favorites that have been blessed with Hamster conversions, but I often look through the eShop on my Switch and wonder if any of the other titles I don't have much experience with are worth it.

Can't wait to see some of the discussion that rolls out, and I hope two things happen from checking in with this thread: I find some old SNK classics I've never played before that end up being to my liking, and, I hope Hamster sees success for their efforts on this front!

Karnov's Revenge and Magical Drop (I hope they'll bring the third one, too) are neat additions. Balloooon!

It's bummer, however, that Windjammers isn't coming any soon here. It definitely needs wider re-release above PlayStation Network.

Having lots of fun with Karnov's Revenge on PS4.

I may get a Switch this Christmas, but the lack of an Arcade Stick may hold me off of the Arcade Archives there.
Too bad because Waku Waku 7 and World Heroes Perfect are exclusive for now.

Don't the roms include both arcade and console versions originally? Why not let the player choose which one he wants to boot up?

Also, OP mentions Windows 10 but the chart showing platform releases only has console listings, where do we get them for PC?
Edit: Oh, just saw a couple posts above, Windows Store only for now it seems? I hope that changes. Very soon. Really soon.

But how are the actual releases then, are they exactly like the originals, do they have new menus, are there nice scanlines/filters?
They're kind of pricy for PC considering alternative versions released before so they have to be great quality to be worth it instead.

We need more King of Fighters games!

With The Last Blade out, Last Blade II can't be that far behind. Also tempted to pick up SamSho II even though I own IV.

Hori released the HRAP for Switch a few months ago, but maybe you meant you didn't have one.

How's the emulation? How "arcade perfect" are they?

How do they look on the Switch when docked? Any additional input lag?

Fantastic topic. Love the way it's put together with lots of images as well instead of just boring lists.

Got every Neo Geo game on Switch so far and I'm planning on picking up everything they throw at me at this point.

This saturday we celebrated an all day SNK tourament, were we played some games like karnov's revenge, fatal fury special, and art of fighting 1. Sincé we played too many games, needed to speed up things, and had a PS4 connected on the main stage while also connected to a stream, I decided to buy the 3 games mentioned above.

Some thoughts from a tournament perspective and later from a casual perspective

1) I hate that the game menu comes from R3 or the touchpad, it was a pain in the ass to setup buttons if we happened to have 2 sticks without them
2) Also, don't know if this always happen, but I don't know if the 2p can setup their buttons without the aid of the 1p.
3) I don't like the filter used in the emulator, compared to the code mystics ports (which we also played that day) the games didn't looked that good.
4) They same to be arcade perfect for the most part, no input lag or anything like that
5) It sucks that they don't have online play, even though I could understand way, is an innecesary cost considering that more popular and competitive games like garou or last blade don't have any online scene, since everyone is playing those in fightcade
6) I love the sound effects.
7) I hate how the hi score mode is stopped when you press start, hundreds of times I pressed it by mistake and lost my actual score, if this was the intention, they should made the pause menu be activated after pressing start for 3 seconds.

Still, I love the ports for what they are, is cool to have this games avaliable, but I was expecting better QoL features

Got a question, I have a Switch, and already purchased Garou.
Which games would you recommend?
I'm curious in particular about fatal fury special, last blade, waku 7, roddy and cathy, sengoku series, robo army, mutation nation and spin master. How are they?

My favourite game on the Neo Geo system is Viewpoint - an isometric shoot-em-up. Any chance we'll ever see this released on modern systems?

If you're happy with the quality of options and such in Garou then I imagine most other Hamster releases are equal so based on the Neo Geo originals I can easily recommend the likes of Blazing Star, Metal Slug 1, X, 3, The King of Fighters '98, Shock Troopers 1, Samurai Shodown 4. As for Sengoku I'd wait for 3 to be out, I don't think the previous games in that series were very good. The Last Blade is good too but you just know 2 is coming at some point and it's better. Waku Waku 7 is cool for its craziness too (plus there's no sequel in the horizon to care about getting an inferior earlier game in the series).

You can read some info about Sengoku series here:

It seems that (awesome) site got a redesign while I wasn't looking but a lot of content like that is only on the old defunct version and a little broken.

Thanks, will certainly get X, my fave metal slug, is this a good port? Also I'm not particularly good at KoF but I might try 98.

I don't know about the quality of the ports, just the originals, but since you're happy with Garou I imagine they're all similar quality in this ACA series.

I really wish there was a way to activate the AES mode with training mode on the fighters. Is there a technical reason they don't allow you to do this? It should be in the file right?

It might happen one day as Hamster do have connection to various publishers, but it's one of the more complicated situations.
As far as I understand, the rights for that one are at least partially with Sega Sammy as Sammy was the publisher back in the day.
