Anybody have any tips for mission 15? The load out requirements seem weird because the level is a mix of air land and sea targets. I'm going to assume something with the anti ship missiles is better because I tried the F-15E with the cluster bombs multiple times and just get bodied by sams. Also the score requirement is hefty so maybe multi targeting ground missiles?

You can safely go with a Air to Air fighter in mission 15, I don't think I ever had to focus on ground targets to meet the score requirements and there are a lot more planes than anything.
F-23 it is then lol. I love that plane. I think I half assed my way to an A rank using it on mission 4 and I think I beat mission 14 with it...if I can remember what mission 14 was.

I played the Ace Combat game on PS2 and I'm enjoying this but playing with the default controls. Should I switch to the more advanced controls?
I'm old now (ha) so I don't have a ton of time to play.

Expert controls apparently used to be default in earlier ACs (pre-AC6).
Definitively recommend using those controls, they give much greater control over the plane.

So I'm on the fifth mission, and I can't seem to take off. I did the take off in mission one, so I've done it before but I can't seem to do it again.
Held on to accelerate, and pitched up and no dice.

edit: Okay I restarted my PS4, and changed planes. Not sure what did it, but I can take off now. Was using a F-14 but switched to the F-16.

I've beaten the first 5 missions of this game on PC and gotta say despite having to get used to a mouse and keyboard set up, I'm having a blast! I am playing it on easy since I never played an Ace Combat game before, but I'm digging the game and all the different missions so far. Will get to Mission 6 soon and going by the Giant Bomb QL and Pat Stares At stream Archives, it's clearly meant for an air-to-ground jet with unguided bombs to use. Hopefully I have enough credits to get a new plane that has what I assume are better unguided bombs?

Honestly this game is a breath of fresh air for me since I haven't played an arcade jet action game like Ace Combat before!

The A-10C is your friend, it's cheap, so don't really worry about it.

Default controls in PS2 games = Expert in this game.

Man, A-10C is da MVP for missions 6 to 8. Using the Unguided bomb is basically built for those missions (or early on in the 8th mission). Really enjoying this game. I did spoil myself on the mission count for AC7 so it looks like I'm 2/5's of the way done with the campaign after beating chapter 8?

Less than half way. The later half of the game is really beefy.

I just picked this back up again and have to vent.

I don't think I've ever hated a game this much from one mission to really liking it the next. Or phases of individual missions. It's incredibly annoying how many stupid gimmicks are introduced in order to fuck up your shit.

The end result is I'm retrying missions dozens of times because of the shit checkpoint system and annoying design. I remember why I stopped playing.

I'm on mission 10 now and can someone explain why all these SAM sites are suddenly super powered and can launch missiles at the target I need to defend from across the fucking map? And of course they are hidden. And of course no wingmen help and of course there's also planes trying to shoot it down.

Shit like this makes me not want to play anymore.

I get the idea is to look at the smoke trails and find the SAM sites, but I'm fucking zipping across the map using long range missiles as fast as I can and 10 retries later I just don't know what the fuck the game wants from me anymore.

edit: I beat it a couple more tries after that. I eventually just stopped even searching out SAM sites and just blew them up when they were really close and focused on the flying enemies, which is pretty much exactly what the dialogue makes it sound like you SHOULD NOT be doing, so go figure.

I'm scared at how annoyed I'm going to get at the later missions. OH god.

Up to Mission 9 and I can't say I'm enjoying this at all, about the only fun I'm having is watching the cutscenes in between missions.

The sense of speed feels non-existent and there is no feel of exhilaration from the combat or flying. The mission design feels boring.

You know those turret+vehicle sections most people dread in action games? Basically this whole game feels like that.

Probably just not for me.

I'm still enjoying the heck out of this game, and looking forward to the DLC missions. I really hope Ace combat 7 has done well enough for Namco for them to greenlight a sequel, and that it happens earlier in the lifecycle of next-gen consoles compared to when AC7 was released this generation and certainly don't wanna have to wait another 11+ years.

I believe it did fairly well in Asia as Bamco tweeted this sales stat out for the game:

It's definitely done well in the Asian market, but there's no sales data in the West that I know of. Hopefully it's done well here because I'm digging it and would love to play an Ace Combat 8.

I finally finished this over the weekend. lol, the hard mode is a lot easier to go back and do after, once you have the F-22A Raptor.

That was my least favorite mission by far and I was cursing up a storm too. It gets mostly better after that.

I agree!

I actually finished it last night and had a MUCH better time once that was over. Every mission after that one was quite fun and not as frustrating.

In general I feel like the last half is better than the first, really.

Honestly, this game has some of the most effective video game storytelling I've seen recently. I'm not talking about the stuff in the cut scenes, but the stuff that actually happens mid-mission. Mission 9 in particular feels like a turning point for the overall plot and the player character's arc. AC7 manages to combine interesting gameplay gimmicks with events in the story and calculated use of the excellent soundtrack. It kinda reminds me of the missions in Infinity Ward Call of Duty games. The only other Ace Combat that sort of felt like this was 5.

I spent all day trying to beat 444 and I just can't... No idea what to do. Migs and Su-33s up my ass when I try to eliminate all the bombers.

Stumbled on this comment on youtube and I mostly agree with it.

You know, after learning about Mihaly again, through every little detail, it turns out that Mihaly is... ...A deconstructed version of an Ace Combat Player: Us.

Let's see...
-) It's been a while since there's an Ace Combat game, with Infinity released at 2014, there's a 5 year gap before AC7 came out. Technically, we have became veterans that haven't flown the skies for a while. Mihaly is an old, legendary ace, just like us.
-) "There are pilots like you in every generation, and I felled every last one of them." Yellow Squadron? Pixy? Belka's aces? Ilya Pasternak? Even Milosz Sulejmani and Andrei Markov? We have shot them all down.
-) Mihaly shot down Brownie, who's already trying to flee instead of fighting back. Some of us did that too, as Mercenary Cipher, and even Mobius 1 shot down some fleeing copters.
-) Mihaly is greatly feared by his enemies so much that people thinks no normal experienced pilots can match him. We never had problems with normal enemy planes either, only very few aces gave us trouble. Same thing at how Mihaly destroys so many Osean forces at Farbanti without the Sol squadron helping him.
-) You're saying Mihaly can survive a lot of missiles is cheating? Didn't we get the same treatment all this time? The game even explains how this is possible.
-) Notice that outside of story dialogues, most of Mihaly's radio chatters are mostly "Taking evasive action", "I have a lock", "Taking fire", "Fox 2", "Shaking bandit", and so on? That's mostly what AWACS will say to us in a dogfight.
-) I don't know about you, but there has to be a moment when you went "Huh, that's not bad, but you're dead now" to an enemy plane, similar to Mihaly 'toying' with his enemies before shooting them down.
-) If you survived for a while at mission 7, Mihaly will say "He dodged again... Interesting.". Honestly, would you say the same thing when you encounter a unique enemy that looks like any other normal fighter, but he's able to evade your missiles several times? And, when Mihaly was finally shot down, he survived, but he cannot fly again. I wonder how many of us 'gave up' and stopped playing the game when someone shot you down too many times in multiplayer...?

Unless you are on Ace with a slow plane, you have more than enough time to fire two missiles and evade. Special missiles will also one shot Tu-95s, and you only need 1 additional normal missile to take down a Tu-160.

Wow someone translated Kono's tweet regarding the development of Ace Combat 7, it's not the cleanest translation but my god it's heartbreaking.
The basically put the game together in 1 year after years of people trying to get them to can the project it seems like.
God damn. Sounds like this is the last one then. I grew up with this franchise, hopefully it got enough sales to warrant a sequel.

Really enjoyed first three missions but was really annoyed with the turning and no roll. Looked up the controls and now know about expert, flares, high g and following missiles. Should have looked at the controls first...

Still stuck on Mission 5. Either I get shot down trying to take down bombers or the bombers move out of the area while I deal with the escorts.

Play 3-4 games online, buy a better plane/upgrades. It was really hard with the starting ship, changed to one with long range anti air and it was easy.

Also: if the missiles aren't coming from behind, just ignore them.

I'm using the F-14D. Part of it is I'm bad and part of it is a physical factor with my hands. I really don't like the DS4.

Aaaand that's all missions S-ranked on Ace. Time to wait for the DLC to drop.

Played through Ace Combat 4, 5, 0, and 7 all in about a month. What a fantastic series. Story-wise, 7 doesn't hold a candle to any of the 3 PS2 entries, and it has a lot of unfun missions, but I really enjoyed my time with it. I quite liked several of the gameplay additions, especially the post-stall maneuvers (which aren't terribly useful but are a ton of fun to pull off anyways), and yes, the clouds when they weren't too obstructive (I'm looking at you, mission 9). Hoping that the DLC missions will be good and that we'll get a proper Ace Combat 8 soon.

Fuck Count, Tabloid deserved to be my wingman.
