Why do Metal Builds cost so much? That's a lotta spaghetti.

Aside from the 10% Bluefin markup, they're high quality figures with great paint application, a diecast skeleton, so many accessories, and a unique stand. I have three MB figures and they're some of the nicest things I own.

Also, because Bandai created a sneaker-like economy that ensures high demand and a race between hobbyists and scalpers to be the first to buy them. Eva 01 regularly goes for over $300.

On the plus side, I'm a lot less tempted by 02 when I don't already have 01 and have no way to get one.

Watching BBTS like a hawk today for Eva-02. I wasn't staying up to miss out again like always happens with Metal Build preorders.

Side note, the Eva-01 release is still my fave figure of 2019 so far.

Ok, sorry to interrupt with some not-Action Figure but still Toy Collecting-related quandries, but I am confused about something regarding Madballs and I figure this might be a good place to ask about it.

So, as far as I can tell there were four "eras" or "issues" of the 4 inch foam Madballs, all ultimately produced within American Greetings through subsidiaries and partnerships?

AmToy - original 80s line (1986?)
madballs-dutch-packaging.jpg

Basic Fun - first revival line? (2007?)

Just Play - 2nd revival? (2017?)

Kidrobot - 3rd revival? (2017/2018/??)

See, I'm real confused on the timeline for the last two productions and really why American Greetings ditched Just Play's line for another reboot. Just Play had a Series 3 wave ready to go and on display at Toy Fair.

See Screamin Meanie, the baseball guy? I noticed that he and the gang got a redesign during Just Play's run but went back to roots with Kidrobot.

What's really weird is that the original Madballs artists was, IIRC, involved in every line in the property's history. So it ain't that.

I recently picked up almost all of Just Play's line for $5/each and half of Kidrobot's horror film spin-off series (the other half will be mine soon!). I was researching to see what other cool Madballs I might pick up (excluding the costly 80s originals) when I fell into this whole clusterfuck of ignorance about the property.

Interesting to note - while Just Play and Kidrobot's lines are still selling at original retail cost ~$10 on eBay and 3rd sellers, the 2007 Basic Fun line is getting costly. Originally $5, these specific Madballs are harder to find and go for $30-$40.

I have yet to find an article online RE: Madballs that acknowledges Basic Fun, Just Play and Kidrobot all in the same article.

I remember the 80's line from when I was a kid. But other than that I only recall the fairly recent ones that were released by Mondo.

Oh yeah, this is the Spidey suit I've been waiting for. Looks fantastic, and it looks like we're getting a new head sculpt to boot. Curious to know what that additional accessory will be...

Consensus on the Gundam Universe figures? Are they basically the Marvel Legends/ DC Multiverse line for Gundam?

I didn't even realize they came out with yet another scale/toyline. So Robot Tamashii is officially dead?

Wow! that takes me back. I'm old enough to remember the original run!

yay, my pile of loot shipment finally arrived! Was originally planning to wait until the SSB Vegeta came in since that's due out this month but it's looking more and more like it's going to get delayed again so I just went ahead and shipped them. First bunch of import figures I've picked up that's not revoltech TMNT and Amazing Yamaguchi!
Photo-Jun-28-1-00-26-PM.md.jpg

Very pleased with these guys and makes me wish I started collecting the DBZ SH Figuarts series earlier. Skimming through their previous releases and I see a lot of figures I'd love to pick up but are now up in the $100+ to $200+ price range :(
Did have a little QC issue with Gogeta though.
Photo-Jun-28-3-41-12-PM.md.jpg

His right kneecap is loose. Stays in place thanks to the sculpt when his leg is straight but when bent it's loose enough that just tilting him forward will cause it to fall off. Seems like an easy fix at least.

Photo-Jun-28-4-27-40-PM.md.jpg

Love the height and heft of the Broly figure. Kind of difficult to use with any stands though because of it.

Also had a Figma Kizuna Ai preordered.

Sorry for the low quality, don't currently have a camera or the room to set up anything as nice as Teepo671 right now. Kizuna Ai's on my "have way more disposable income than I can imagine atm" list, it's cool you got one! Not sure if I want that one or the Nendoroid tho 🤔

Some new Overwatch figures from Hasbro have been popping up. Zarya, McCree, Tracer and McCree 2-pack, Junkrat, and the Genji and Hanzo 2-pack are new.

Hey CheeseConey You wouldn't happen to know where I can get early impressions on Monsterarts? Want to make sure King Ghidorah doesn't have any fragility problems before paying for it.

Some people in Japan seem to be getting theirs now, there's a few videos on Youtube. I think over the next few weeks we should see a bunch of impressions/videos coming in. I think people who preordered it directly from Bluefin or from any of the Japanese sites will be getting theirs first in the states/outside Japan. So be on the lookout for Youtube reviews here soon.

There should also be some impressions coming in at Toho Kingdom's Monsterarts thread, and there's a few Godzilla groups on facebook, including an articulated figure group. Those Godzilla/Jurassic Park toy groups are the only reason I use Facebook nowadays, I get a lot of news from them.

Hopefully I'll have mine this month, ill for sure be posting a video on it.

Hopefully they'll be uploaded soon. I want to make use of the early bird discount I got from Ami but I need to pay within the next few days in order to secure it.

Has Good Smile Company released any new information at all about the bloodborne weapon set, or the Lady Maria, or Sekiro figures? Last news I heard was almost a year ago.

Thanks! ah, it's not anything special. Just cleared up my desk for a short while to take some photos. The Kizuna figure is pretty nice but I was surprised at how tiny her arms and legs were. I suppose it's accurate though and it's held up quite well so far but I'm always a little worried I might accidentally snap the shins or something when I'm posing the figure. Looking forward to the picking up the Kaguya Luna figma to pair them up!
I'm really liking those Splatoon figures but I've got too many other figures preordered right now. Seems like figmas remain in production for a while though since a number of previous nintendo characters still seem to be reasonably priced, yeah? Kind of want to pick up more of the DBZ figuarts asap before they shoot up in price. :(

Delete that anime, Teepo671 .

Just kidding. Nice pics!

From what I've seen so far they seem to be turning out okay. Hopefully this week coming up we'll be seeing some more impressions.

Checking out more pics today and my main problem with him is how drab his colors are. Something about it feels off.

Wonder if I should wait for the alt. version (I feel there's a good chance that will come) or just bite the bullet.

Can anyone explain to me how Bandai Tamashii stock/demand works? Is demand for the Iron Man Mark 85 really that high? Cuz I can't find it in stock anywhere and it's barely been officially out. Was it like this for the Mark 50 last year?

Stole this pic from the WON subreddit. This new 2.5" wave is popping up at Walmart check-outs (although here in Indy I was just at 2 different Walmarts today for other reasons and never saw these).

I really want that Cheep Cheep! This wave has more new figures/variants than any wave they've released in a long time. They're usually mostly reprints but only green Yoshi this time.

Bonus: here's a listing I found on eBay today

You're talking about figuarts Mark 85, right?
Bandai Tamashii/Bluefin imports these and sells them domestically at a higher cost, but they're delayed so I don't think it's out in the US yet. Preorders may be sold out but once it releases you can usually find one for their retail price from somewhere. Japanese stock will probably be available for a time because it's not an exclusive (to my knowledge). But yeah, wait too long and you'll be paying out the nose for it.

Thanks, yeah the figuarts figure. I guess I'll just wait for the Bluefin release since the Japanese stock seems like it's gone and prices have gone up to $130+ at this point. I just hope they don't pull the same shenanigans with the 85 that they did with the 50 and release like 3 different versions with different accessory packs.

Had an Iron Man itch that I'll just scratch with something else for the time being.

I finally got my hands on a Mafex Comic Spider-Man and good LORD this thing is nice. Only $80 shipped from Amazon Japan and it's $80 well spent.

May as well scoop the Mafex Venom while I'm at it. Mafex has made a believer out of me.

Bah. I figured it looked too good to be true. The fact that you could still order the Metal Build Eva's should have been clue enough.
I found some mixed stuff on an reddit Gundam thread, basically saying they're a smaller company and they are slow, but that they did get what they ordered. I wanted to believe, but yeah. Bailing now.

Thanks MikeHattsu.

Now the REAL question. Where's a guy get one of those Metal Build Eva-02s!? They look sold out everywhere.
