LOL. Waltz and the fake idol. Like Rosa said, I would also watch that movie.
I just knew this movie was going to be a dud, I just knew it but then I saw it and I really liked it. This was a pretty solid movie! They could have cut the relationship subplot, but I honestly want to see what happened in her past life. I feel like that was the hook for me, the modern day stuff a bit less so.
Can this happen for atleast 4 more weeks? I want this to reach 500 million so that I can get a sequel damnit!
Really enjoyed this more than I thought. Hoping word of mouth travels so people see this and get a sequel greenlit
I've heard of this series, and seen some clips from the OVAs, but I don't really know anything about the original manga.
This was a good ass movie. I think my favorite aspect was Alita being 100% gung ho badass killing machine, and actually relishing in it (and just enjoying being alive, and a cool as fuck cyborg), instead of being wishy washy like most other protagonists.
I feel like anybody who hasn't heard of the source material might think that this is movie is actually a YA adaptation like Hunger Games, Divergent, or The Maze Runner, but weirder. And oh boy, this is not one of those.

The Dolby Cinema experience was spectacular. I never wanted to see a sub 48fps 3D movie again after being burned by Tron Legacy in LIE-MAX - not even RP1 - but this 3D experience was spectacular. Everything was clear (4k+HDR helps), the 3D was natural instead of out of place, and the choreography was highly legible (and really, really good!).
I want to see it again, but I don't want to pay $21. I hope it comes to a VR service, and we eventually get 8k/16k per eye VR devices that eliminate the screen door effect that real life doesn't have.
Gimme a sequel!

Saw this tonight. I fucking loved it. Holy shit.
The movie is cheesy, but it's sincere and has some good emotional beats. I love how Alita was written and portrayed. She's got a good arc that makes watching her go through the movie well worth it. The action scenes are kick-ass and well-shot. Good music. Like... this movie has the whole package. It flails on the execution a bit here and there, but the overall package is solid, and damn am I glad that it's the case.
I'm definitely buying the blu-ray.
Oh, and this movie has one of the best single-use of the word "fuck" in a PG-13 movie. It's a goddamned amazing bit.

Pretty solid movie. The main actress was actually really great, she sold it all. Everyone else kinda felt like they where phoning it in and the logic was just all over the place, but again, the actress playing alita anchored the whole thing and made me not care about the short comings.
Seeing it in 3d was a treat. Which is a weird thing to admit, but this movie was made for that.

Seeing all the love for Rosa Salazar makes me want to shout out Man Seeking Woman, a shamefully overlooked comedy show that featured Rosa for a majority of season 2. That was the first time I saw her and she was great in that too so check it out!

I liked the movie.
The only thing that actually, genuinely annoyed me, was the way they shoehorned Desty Nova into the film as some sort of "Big Bad". He wasn't even involved in the story at that point, and the way they handled him was incredibly saturday morning.
MCU film have great CGi but people hyper-focus on the parts that don't look so good. Their approach includes going in and reshooting scenes which means a reshot scene will have less budget for practical sets, etc., and VFX studios have less time to work on effects. It's a compromise since they may be able to tighten up parts of the film that weren't working as well as they'd like, but then there is a chance that the seams will show in the final product.
Also, it seemed pretty obvious to me that Alita is pretty sparse with it's use of variety in it's practical sets since everything takes place in Iron City so we see lots of alleyways and rooms from the same sets. That gives them more budget for the wide VFX shots and heavy greenscreen/VFX sequences. Compare that to Black Panther which has multiple different locales in different countries with different rooms (museums, casinos, fields, scrapyards, jungles, waterfalls, streets, thronerooms, etc.) and they have to balance a lot more of the budget for practical set pieces with the VFX set pieces.
I was definitely still on it at the time of that post. I'll have to see it again sober I suppose, but for now, it was a feast for my senses.

Oh he's quite dead, thankfully. I didn't laugh. I knew it was coming since it's exactly how he died in the manga. As soon as I read it, I knew it was gonna look cheesy as hell in live action.

What was the deal with the Women being murdered at night? I thought it was implying for a good while that Dr. Ido was the killer of women?
If Alita is a soldier from mars, fought on the moon, and apparently had a spaceship...what was the deal with the flashback of her and the other 'angel' climbing the tube to the sky city?
lol wut. what is the significance of motorball and how is that the only way to be granted into a ticket into the sky city? Nova is running motorball?

I thought it was a good movie. Pretty choppy at times. Felt like they were trying to cram two films into one. Also, the Joey Lawrence clone was pretty hilarious at times. The world building this film was able to accomplish was pretty impressive and the visuals & action segments were worth the admission.

Here are my interpretations. I haven't read the manga.
* The women were being murdered for body parts by random criminals. Dr. Ido looked to Alita (and us) like he was killing the women, but it turned out he had become a vigilante specifically to fight AGAINST criminals. He mentions that there isn't really a police anymore, so he's trying to be a sort of elderly Batman.
* For whatever reason, Mars was trying to kill all the sky cities. Alita and the other angel were apparently trying to get into the last sky city to destroy it, since that was the overall mission, and it was the last city remaining. It's possible it's because Nova and other elite people were doing horrific experiments or something there.
* Motorball is just the crazy roller derby sport that keeps the masses entertained and pacified. Having the theoretical hope of getting into the elite sky city of noble people gives the common people something to aim for. Vector runs motorball and so he's influential since everyone likes it, and he makes people think that he also has ways of smuggling people up to sky city, but it turns out it's all a scam. Nova is some mysterious villain in the movie who's behind the scenes even over Vector, but this is apparently different from the manga and I'm trying not to spoil myself.

I didn't laugh but he had strange expression on his face. I think he was meant to look serene but he looked more like a doofus
I saw it in a local IMAX and was dissapointed in their sound system. I have a 11 channel Atmos/DTSX system in my home theater with buttkickers, so I am eagerly awaiting watching this one at home cause it was noticeable to me the lack of bass and surround in the IMAX system I watched it on. The screen was great though =)

Hell yeah. The music that goes with the Motorball scene complements it so well. It was badass. What's great about it you can tell what is going on unlike other CG heavy movies.
