If what's Cody saying is correct, I assume then that they will have half of the roster 1 week and the other half the next week. Because if they have 100+ wrestlers there is no way they will be able to feature them in a 2 hour weekly show.
It wouldn't be possible with the current roster size with one two hour show.

I'm watching Summerslam with wife. She's not an wrestling fan. She went with me to Double or Nothing. She told me that her favorite part of the entire show was the speech the Elite did at the end where they thanked the fans. She thinks the Humble attitudes of the wrestlers made AEW stand out from WWE.

You guys realize they don't have to be using everyone all the time, right? The tournaments will dominate TV time and they'll have the others come in and out as crowd warmers for those more important matches. This is how NJPW does it. A bunch of the junior division hasn't been on TV for over a month now. And it's perfectly fine cuz they're gonna get their own tournament soon in the Super J Cup.

A roster that size is managable if you're not maried to the idea of people appearing every week. The big names do show up frequently in those warm up matches, but my not be the main event of the night. It's smart of they're going to try their hand at longer form booking.

This is exactly what I was saying before, they'll use some guys /gals one week and have them off the card the week after. Or work some angles for one PPV and then not use some of them for a good while.

I'm thinking some folks may have a month at a time off. Or more depending on what their other commitments are. Make people aware of them. Put them over. Give them the "please come back!" energy. Then they'll pop up later when they can commit to AEW for a longer stretch.

They still need to hire a lot of wrestlers, specially for their womens tag division. They need at least 10 tags if they want the division to be good and not depend on the same matches over and over again.

This is just not true. It's got nothing to do with fake news, in fact, the exact opposite. Dirt Sheets are literally the name of wrestling publications. They weren't fake in the past, they aren't fake now. The "dirt" refers to the breaking of kayfabe by them, as opposed to the regular wrestling magazines of old that kept kayfabe and reported as if it were real. The "sheet" refers to the fact they were printed on A4 paper sheets and distributed like newsletters.

The WON, PWT, PWI, F4W, and the many websites that feed you the news that originates from them are all still "dirt sheets" and that has nothing to do with fake news or any other kind of media thing that people have thought up over the past few years. It's a term that's been around ever since the WON was created.
I've heard that and other explanations that make it sound innocuous but it always seemed like people were watering it down. This is wrestling, it's like telling me "mark" isn't a derisive term. Dirt sheet was coined back when promoters/wrestlers were trying to protect kayfabe, Meltzer was (publically) persona non grata (though some were friends with him in private) and wrestlers were really derisive of "the sheets", so I find it really hard to believe it was ever meant as anything but a negative.

Though even if you're right, it's certainly the way it's used these days. Just look at the comment that triggered this argument.

Bullshit. WWE has 111 active wrestlers between Raw and Smackdown (not counting 205 and NXT rosters) and they has A LOT of stale talent with any minute of TV time

How the hell will AEW with only one 2 hour weekly show give promotion and tv time to almost that same amount of roster?

Unless Cody is being intentionally ambiguous here and he is talking only about EXCLUSIVE AEW superstars is only about 40%
WWE does maybe the worst job in history of using their roster, so they really shouldn't be used as an example. A ton of wrestlers are paid basically just to sit at home or in catering, while the ones they push on TV are overexposed so much they don't come across as stars.

So far AEW's roster have used a lot of the same people on all their shows, so it makes sense they're going to sign/announce a lot more talent before TV starts but 60% more does sound like an awful lot. I'm guessing that's including one-time appearances, so all the women they're bringing in to do matches like the Casino Battle Royale count towards it.

Out of curiosity, how many of you are planning to pay for All Out on August 31st?

I'm going put down my $50 to support what they're doing.

Jericho vs. Page (hope they surprise us...)
Bucks/Lucha Bros. ladder match
Kenny vs. Moxley
Cody vs. Spears
Best Friends vs. Dark Order
Darby vs. Havoc vs. Janela
Women's casino battle royale

Looks pretty good on paper so far.

Paying for all out. Looks to be a damn good show so far.

Haven't been let down by a show so far. Apart from the heat issues on FoTF, it's been an absolute excellent product.

I will. I know they will have a great show (possibly better than DoN) and I don't have a problem with supporting great wrestling.

Probably not picking it up, but I will see highlights probably around the same time or shortly after. It's just too high a price for me for matches I'm not feeling too hot on. Jericho/Page I have no expectations it'll actually be great, which is a shame because I was behind Page until his last appearance where I realized he ain't the guy. Bucks/Lucha should be good but I feel like I've seen them a zillion times, even though I haven't. Kenny/Mox is the most interesting and attractive match to me, very much interested in it. Zero anticipation for Cody/Spears. No thanks. Best Friends/Dark Order isn't something I need to see live, Darby/Havoc/Janela will be a mess but enjoyable, I'm sure. Curious about the battle royale contestants, but that format was absolutely terrible so I'll just wait.

I'm going to see how the reception is. I would be buying it if I could watch it live, but since I'm going to be in a hotel in London after the UK NJPW show, I'm not going to trust hotel WiFi to try and watch it live.

Will be buying as soon as it's confirmed whether it's on ITV Box Office or Fite, and available for purchase.

Although it's easier to justify the cost for me as it'll likely only be £14.99 if Double or Nothing is anything to go by.

Edit: Well, that answers that. It'll be ITV Box Office, but isn't available to purchase yet.

On an unrelated note, what's a good image host to use these days? Imgur is getting worse and worse in my experience. Took me longer to find the BBCode link or a direct image link than it did to actually upload just then.

Good timing! £14.95 on ITV Box Office

FFS.

Other than streaming to my phone I probably wont be watching this now. Last time they used them we were meant to be able to purchase it from the PS4 but it had to be watched live and then after a bunch of complaints that people couldn't even find it there they announced it wasn't going to be available through the PS4 anymore.

At least wit Fite.TV I can stream from the PS4 browser.

Honestly I wish it was any other channel than ITV since they have an issue with PS4 anyway and removed their app ages ago but luckily my TV has an ITV app so for weekly shows (if it's there) I should hopefully be OK unless they pull some bullshit and again force you to watch live without any form of catch up.

*edit - seems its also available on Fite which is good but would still prefer through the PS4.

Still nothing on AEW TV in Canada.

I know. I'm waiting for this too. I'm hoping there's a streaming solution, as I don't want to have to buy a satellite or cable package ever again unless my salary jumps by 10 grand or something.

I only have a Roku. If they could work out something with BR Live, I'd be totally cool with it!

I'll buy All Out but not really sold on this card as much as I was on DON so far.

Moxley vs Omega should be amazing. Also, it should have been for the title.

Hangman vs Jericho is a mistake and going to be a slog.

I'll be there live but I might still purchase it when I get back depending on how much I enjoyed the show. I like to see how they present things vs how it looked live.

I am. Hopefully it'll be a little cheaper on FITE in Canada like DON was. $50 is definitely a lot - it's more than I spend a month on New Japan, STARDOM, CHIKARA and IW.tv combined - but the last two AEW shows were free, so it's a little easier to stomach. Card is certainly weaker on paper at the moment than what they've had in the past though. I'm only really excited for the two tag matches, and I'm kinda curious about Cody/Spears to because of the build.

I'm holding out hope that Page and Jericho will actually surprise us. It has the potential to be a stiff and enjoyable bout if Page plays to Jericho's limitations.

Also, does Page have legit knee issues? Seems like he's always hobbling around. I'm all for disability representation, but I don't think that's what this is.

They've had a lot of time to think about how they want to structure these matches too, so I'm excited by that aspect of it. Once they start doing weekly TV, they won't have nearly as much time to put things together.

But yeah, I'm surprisingly into Cody vs. Spears, though Spears needs to show some kind of evolution after this one. Also, he totally needs to win, right? Or will Cody book himself to come out on top? That story makes sense too, as they've made Cody super sympathetic with the chair shot to the head. This is his payback moment.

...but it's also Spears' first singles match in AEW and they need strongly-booked heels and faces. I think Cody can absorb the L here moreso than Spears.

I'm very hype for All Out and definitely will be purchasing it. I think the card, owing to the fact that there is more build-up and history starting to build with the roster, will come across even better than the events they've had so far.

I'm fine with Jericho/Page, it's not necessarily the ideal, but I think it will accomplish getting the belt on Jericho to be a strong villain as first champion, Page in losing can get a rub just by being on that big stage. I think the match can work if it's booked to be more of a old school style story driven match.

Omega/Moxley will definitely be the marquee match on the card. I can see the logic of holding off on this being a championship match. The product really doesn't officially launch until Oct 2. They can get away with a weaker championship match now because the event is already a sell out and is already reaching the max audience it's going to get right now. That changes once this is a mainstream cable TV show. They'd be getting off saving Omega/Moxley chasing the title for when TV starts, and saving a full fledged fued between them for later as well.

I am definitely eager to see Cody/Spears. It may be a controversial opinion, but Cody has had the best match on all three AEW cards so far. I'm biased because I prefer the old school style of match. I can't see Cody not winning that unless they'd be planning to continue to fued. Cody is 1-1-1 so far, so I would think he needs to be getting the win as he's going to be positioned to be one of the upper card guys going into TV. I think Spears can take the loss, he's getting a boost by association with both Rhodes and Blanchard, and I'd expect he will be a mid card level heel so they don't really need to go all out pushing him out the gate.

Fite TV has it available for $19.99. I saw it just this morning.

If you are in the UK and are buying through Fite do the purchase through the website instead of app. Costs £14.95 on website and £18.99 on app.

OC is amazing and he can absolutely go, which he's shown repeatedly. That dude is way more than just a comedy spot and the whiplash those transitions cause are my favorite moments.

Don't know anything about Orange Cassidy outside of his appearance on Double or Nothing, but sounds like people are excited about him, so I'm down. Found him to be really funny on Double or Nothing, and was super impressed by his kip-up with his hands in his pockets.
