Due to the release of Splatoon 2(>900K units) - Amiibos were up 9% YoY compared to 2016 . There are another 3 Splatoon amiibos which didn't make the top 10 chart.

Lol. I always felt Amiibos had the best chance at the 'toys to life' market because the figures can be applied across multiple IPs and if nothing else, make for great little collector ornaments on your gaming shelf. I avoided the temptation to mass purchase them but I have three( Smash series Link, Wolf Link, Kirby) and I'll definitely pick up Simon Belmont and Soild Snake when SSMU launches.

That's funny considering here in the US, most retailers near me now have very small amiibo sections. Theyre basically getting slowly phased out.

I do think the amiibo distribution model should change somehow. Use an online distribution service rather than relying on retail.

It went up in Japan pretty specifically for Splatoon 2. I'd like to see numbers for other regions to see if Switch popularity in general drove it up elsewhere or if it's in decline despite the increase in Japan.

Yeah, I don't even consider amiibo in the same category as those others.

They aren't getting phased out lol. As long as Nintendo releases them, they will be stocked, but there's not going to be a rush of waves and sells like they were in the beginning.

Not surprised that Japan's list is ruled by Splatoon

The only amiibo I buy for sure are Splatoon amiibo, really tempted to get some of the new Smash ones, but I just remember trying to buy all of my favorites in the beginning and then getting burnt out with the stock issues really fast

All of the new Smash amiibos are up for preorder at various places.

Considering Amiibo Launched with Wii U and that was a dismal failure, I think Amiibo craze 2.0 might be incoming in the next few months. Obviously there won't be the same level of hysteria, but nobody wants to see it like it was.
