Mecha of the year.
-------

To start our new era in Era with some proper high quality anime -new Bokuben PV:

If it's bad like it seems, I'll just act like the anime don't exist. The anime designs are so generic compared to the manga and the animation so far is quite stiff. I"ll watch and I'm happy for Tsutsui for the anime but it seems mediocre at best with the pv.

Realised I was missing Tsurezure Children. Started reading the manga. It's so good. The western girl and the sushi gag is killing me. I really want a season 2 of this show.

Yeah, not happening. The anime was a failure and the manga ended in months ago.

The failing NYTimes listed A Place Further Than The Universe in their best TV shows of 2018. We made it.

tumblr_p58c6gA4BF1u86t2qo1_500.gif

A high-spirited, jokey anime series about four teenage girls who join a scientific expedition to Japan's Antarctic research station might sound like a show with a pretty specific audience. But "A Place," written by Jukki Hanada and directed by Atsuko Ishizuka, is a funny and moving coming-of-age story that should translate across all boundaries of age or culture. Never mawkish or contrived, it's an absolutely authentic depiction of how friendship can overcome adolescent anxiety and grief. (Streaming on Crunchyroll.)

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/03/arts/television/the-best-tv-shows.html

This show has been AOTY since it ended and while there have been some great shows since, it's still AOTY for me.

Bloom into You 09

Yuu is really falling in love with Touko, but she's not sure whether she wants it. I like them both and hope for the best outcome.

Gridman 09

Nothing is working for Akane. Well that's what you get for doing what you did.

This episode was visually amazing.

Sword Art Online: Alicization 09

Another shitty rapist villain, but otherwise a good episode.
Not sure whether Eugeo made the right choice in the end, but I didn't think he'd say that. Hopefully the backfire won't be really bad.

eh, I'm certain that what she did is nothing considering that this isn't the real world and this place is probably just something to heal her much like in danganronpa, with the difference that only her and mayybe yuta are real there

As for sao, prepare for the episode of next week. I don't know what will happen but I heard it'll be quite a episode for various reasons.

I live for the shadow clones. Best characters.

Shuu is also nice, Shuu Minato is instantly likeable really and Shuu's personality is like a breath of fresh air, like most shows would have made him act all high and mighty and look down on Minato, but instead he seems concerned, glad, and relieved that he got to see him again and even defends him from people who speak ill of him.

Why all villain in SAO is frigging rapist like come on

I agree with the one from fairy dance but for this one it makes sense and is related to a certain aspect of the story and they're basically minor scrubs and not major villains like him. I agree they aren't good and I don't even think it was the intention but the point itself made there has a objective.

Another thing is that the character don't really do it on the episode. It's more of a abuse of power and not really rape but instead the character telling his page to massage him on the bath in underwear which is abuse on her but also on the system of taboo index and the academy with them making use of loopholes. Which I guess it's basically the point to show how nobles do such things on that world with knownleadble of the rules

Watched the first episode of Gridman. It felt very 90s with its pacing since it feels like anime nowadays has to bombard you with action from the word go, but this one just has tons of slow build up to an awesome kaiju fight scene.

How long is the show supposed to last?

BGM:

Oh I forgot, The Disastrous Life of Saiki has some kind of denouement/ final chapter thing airing on 28 of December.

---------

Thunderbolt Fantasy 10

Evil, bloodthirsty, mind possessing sword gets outeviled and outthirsted by his vessel. Only scenario better than this would be if monk decided that no one but him was worthy of looking at Hime and sequestered himself in the wastelands.

Duck&Bounty Hunter story line is doing absolutely nothing for me so far.

Thunderbolt Fantasy S2 - 10

From philosophical monk to insane criminal is just another normal thing in Thunderbolt Fantasy anime.

And that guy appears at the end, though!

hm, 55 to 45 min so they'll basically just make the last arc which reaches the end and skip 30 chapters since those introduce two new characters that appear late on. It's basically to reach the end.

Yeah the plotline where Hunting Fox and Enigmatic Gale go "oh you are so dastardly" at each other has probably been the weakest part of this season.

Senryu Girl anime finally??? With this and Kaguya, 2019 will be amazing for comedy anime. Not sure how they'll handle Nanako's poems since she never speaks in the manga. Maybe she'll narrate it to the viewer as if she's speaking?

Either way, hope it's a solid adaptation. I love this series.

Akane is the best thing of the anime and also as character. The story is about her in the end

So many wsm manga coming in 2019. I also wonder how this will be made in anime considering how she communicate in the manga.

Yup. I've heard good things about the Kitsune manga as well. I welcome all the fluff.

Speaking of fluff, shout out to Doga Kobo for keeping Anima Yell! wholesome. An anime about cheerleading could have been prime lewd material but instead they exercised self control and kept things goofy.

I mean, they couldn't do that to anima yell when the manga don't have those scenes, only if they invented some scenes . For most of their adaptations they try to maintain the spirit and what was made on the manga but with animation and overall directing and the same is happening here as well. It's why manga from kirara, kirara max and kirara carat should all be on doga kobo. lol but well, at least doga kobo and houbunsha know that considering that the majority of the adaptations on the kirara line go to them. It's their forte, even with manga from other magazine but with similar spirit. It's why they're one of my favorite studios out there since the series that go to them to be adapted are so identified with them.

Slime 10

I think I'm gonna stop watching this show and binge the rest when it's done. It's too good and every episode feels like they're 5 minutes long.

I wonder if the Lizardmen will become hot lizardpeople when they get named. Gabiru still looks super lizardy though. The ogres kinda looked cooler before they became more human like.

"Oppai bijin" made me laugh way harder than it should have.

Just saw something interesting on the sub of slime. It's about how the anime came to exist. A guy made a summary of a interview in megami magazine

Below is just the start of the interviews published in the November edition (October releases) of Megami magazine:

Mr. Sugimoto (Anime Producer from Bandai Namco Arts).

"How did it all started": Sugimoto is a follower of the monthly manga of this series. He enjoys the manga (feels like a shounen manga), and often thought it would be even better if presented in anime format. He later learns the manga is an adaptation itself based on the Light Novel series, and originally was a Web Novel published on the web.

He, such as many others here, couldn't wait and wanted to know ahead so he decided to read both LN & WN versions, and again like many, got hooked and finished all the materials available.

He was captivated by the series that takes the standard of "climbing of success", while oftentimes also breaks away from the standard norm, and packs with enough enjoyable elements that should guarantee to be interesting when viewed in anime.

With this in mind he went ahead and draft the plan for an anime adaptation. —end of summary—

The interviews are very long and involved many staffs from all parties which I am not planning to summarize them all, so basic versions only:

1) Sugimoto wanted to watch an anime of this and he is in a position for this so he "went ahead and do it". He approached Koudansha for anime adaptation with manga as source material. 8-bit got involved with the anime production.

2) 8-bit anime directors Kikuchi and assistant director Nakayama are also a fan of the manga, and like Sugimoto, they read ahead and got hooked (saw it coming haa). When they first met the LN author Fuse at project commission meeting, Fuse gave the OK and the only wish was they proceed with respect. Fuse (and MitzVah) originally didn't plan to be involved in the anime adaptation.

4) Sugimoto, Kikuchi, and Nakayama took Fuse's word in mind and after discussions on what/how to adopt, they decided both the manga and LN have their own merits so why not do a merge of both manga and LN for a faithful adaptation of the series.

5) In the end all parties agreed and Fuse, Kawakami, and MitzVah all got involved early in the production for storyboard, designs and finalizing the scripts. The staffs were amazed by Fuse being so well prepared on short notice with all the answers to any questions they had regarding the story and scripts. Fuse did jokingly"blame" this is one of the reasons he still hasn't started the draft for volume 14 (back in October).

Due to this, the anime itself list the manga as source material (no question here as mentioned within the interview in the part with the manga and LN editors). The production committee also list the LN as the "novelized source material" as a fact that the anime being a merge of both.

Based on the above and the current pace of the anime I believe the anime will not go further than what is adapted in the manga as Koudansha's editor is the main overseer regarding source adaptation. Micromagazine's editor mainly act as agent/ middleman for Fuse (maybe for MitzVah as well for this case, not sure).

Fuse kinds of said this himself via a short story he published on his author page regarding Rimuru planning the anime adaptation to advertise Tempest. In the story Rimuru sadly informs someone introduced in LN vol. 5 that he will not be appearing in this adaptation. That character took critical damage but still insist to find a way to "sneek in" to be with his beloved lord, which is why you see him in official anime designs and merchandises.

Fuse also mentioned the opening of anime kind of lied with some characters won't show up in person in this adaptation. Hey, at least there is hope for S2 when the manga gets there.

Kimi to Boku 08-11- This show just keeps getting better and better! I wish there were more. It's a shame they spent so much time in the first few episodes trying to slowly build up the characters, when the scenarios are just way better now.

Iroduku 09- Show's starting to pick up. It's doing a lot better job juggling the time travel, magic, color blindness, and high school romance balls without dropping any, though it's odd how late into the season it's doing that. This feels like a 1 season show too.
I'd like a second, I believe.

Show deserves it. When I visited Japan earlier this year, I heard the OP song everywhere.

Show was great, but I was really hoping something else of similar quality would come out. Besides it, all of my favorite shows I watched this year are form other years.

Watched Bubblegum Crash for the first time in many, MANY years.

It's not lightning in a bottle like Crisis, but it's still enjoyable, and still has some great animation & music.
