Is it a bird? Is it a cat? Is it a re-colour of someone else's creation? No. Oh mah gawd, hello every-nyan, it's Reset-tan with another action packed thread just for you (action not guaranteed).

Spring is often seen as the time of renewal so what better way to celebrate that by watching the same ideas recycled again and again?

I kid, I kid. I need to be more positive if I'm to win the hearts of the many. It's not like I want to resort to bribing everyone with gifts unlike a certain individual that we won't be naming. After all, I already give you the gift of this thread, which means you could spend your free time doing the important things in your life like bickering on the Internet rather than spending it typing a whole lot of gobbledygook into a word document.

Well, I think that's a nice length for an opening paragraph, don't you? Let's get on with the show! Oh and 'Go Beyond! Plus Ultra! Whatever!' just to tie it in with the banner.

Discussion of old anime is welcome!

A new season means there's a bunch of new shows on the horizon. As for the quality of them, your guess is as good as mine. Just check out AniChart for the full run down.

But, so you're not completely lost, here's a bunch that members of the community are looking forward to. If they turn out bad, they're to blame, not me. And, obviously, if they're good, I'll take the credit to introducing them to you.

All Might's quirk is a unique ability that can be inherited, and he has chosen Izuku to be his successor!

Enduring many months of gruelling training, Izuku enrols in UA High, a prestigious high school famous for its excellent hero training program, and this year's freshmen look especially promising. For those who prefer something of a known quality, here are the shows the community felt were the best of the bunch from the previous season. Remember, we suffered so you don't have to.

SD1fEzj.png

1. Devilman Crybaby
Devils cannot take form without a living host. However, if the will of an individual is strong enough, they can overcome the demon and make its power their own, becoming a Devilman.

Weak and unassuming, Akira Fudou has always had a bleeding heart. So when his childhood friend Ryou Asuka asks for his help in uncovering devils, Akira accepts without hesitation. However, to Akira's surprise, the place they go to is Sabbath: an immoral party of debauchery and degeneracy. Amidst bloodshed and death, demons possess the partiers, turning their bodies into grotesque monsters, and begin wreaking havoc. In a reckless attempt to save his best friend, Akira unwittingly merges with the devil Amon and becomes a Devilman, gaining the power to defeat the remaining demons.

Though it grants him great power, this new partnership awakens an insatiable and primeval part of Akira. Having the body of a devil but the same crybaby heart, Akira works alongside Ryou, destroying those that harm humanity and his loved ones.

2. Hakumei to Mikochi
Nine centimetres (3.5 inches) tall, the tiny girls Hakumei and Mikochi live in the forest. Living in a tiny house in a tree, riding insects and birds, and making umbrellas out of leaves, these tiny girls live a tiny life. Follow their tiny but lovely lives as they live their day to day in a fantastic world of tiny people and gods.

3. Pop Team Epic
(Poputepipikku)

Pop Team Epic turns absurdist comedy up to eleven with its pop culture references and surreal hilarity. With two bonafide high school girl protagonists—the short and exceptionally quick to anger Popuko, and the tall and unshakeably calm Pipimi—they throw genres against the wall and don't wait to see what sticks. Parody is interlaced with drama, action, crudeness, and the show's overarching goal—to become a real anime.

4. Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
(Uchuu Yorimo Tooi Basho)
(A place further than the Universe)
(A Story That Leads to the Antarctica)

Filled with an overwhelming sense of wonder for the world around her, Mari Tamaki has always dreamt of what lies beyond the reaches of the universe. However, despite harbouring such large aspirations on the inside, her fear of the unknown and anxiety over her own possible limitations have always held her back from chasing them. But now, in her second year of high school, Mari is more determined than ever to not let any more of her youth go to waste. Still, her fear continues to prevent her from taking that ambitious step forward—that is, until she has a chance encounter with a girl who has grand dreams of her own.

Spurred by her mother's disappearance, Shirase Kobuchizawa has been working hard to fund her trip to Antarctica. Despite facing doubt and ridicule from virtually everyone, Shirase is determined to embark on this expedition to search for her mother in a place further than the universe itself. Inspired by Shirase's resolve, Mari jumps at the chance to join her. Soon, their efforts attract the attention of the bubbly Hinata Miyake, who is eager to stand out, and Yuzuki Shiraishi, a polite girl from a high class background. Together, they set sail toward the frozen south.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho follows the captivating journey of four spirited girls, all in search of something great.

5. Yuru Camp△
While the perfect getaway for most girls her age might be a fancy vacation with their loved ones, Rin Shima's ideal way of spending her days off is camping alone at the base of Mount Fuji. From pitching her tent to gathering firewood, she has always done everything by herself, and has no plans of leaving her little solitary world.

However, what starts off as one of Rin's usual camping sessions somehow ends up as a surprise get-together for two when the lost Nadeshiko Kagamihara is forced to take refuge at her campsite. Originally intending to see the picturesque view of Mount Fuji for herself, Nadeshiko's plans are disrupted when she ends up falling asleep partway to her destination. Alone and with no other choice, she seeks help from the only other person nearby. Despite their hasty introductions, the two girls nevertheless enjoy the chilly night together, eating ramen and conversing while the campfire keeps them warm. And even after Nadeshiko's sister finally picks her up later that night, both girls silently ponder the possibility of another camping trip together.

Of course there's no reason to limit yourself to just what's out at the moment. Anime dates back to at least 2006 after all, so there's plenty of stuff to sink your teeth into. With so many shows out there it's sometimes hard to know what to pick, so how about checking out some favourites and cult classics from the community below.

2ljhhDk.png

1. Byston Well Monogatari: Garzey no Tsubasa
(Garzey's Wing)

Yesterday, Chris's biggest problem was getting into a good college. Now, his spirit has been hijacked by wings of light, and transported into an ancient world. Summoned by an enslaved tribe to lead a bloody revolution, Chris must quickly adapt to his new surroundings... or die.

2. K-ON!
Hirasawa Yui, a young, carefree girl entering high school, has her imagination instantly captured when she sees a poster advertising the "Light Music Club." Being the carefree girl that she is, she quickly signs up; however, Yui has a problem, she is unable to play an instrument.

When Yui goes to the clubroom to explain, she's greeted by the other members: Ritsu, Mio, and Tsumugi. Although disheartened at Yui's lack of musical know-how, they still try to convince her to stay to prevent the club's disbandment. After playing Yui a short piece which re-ignites her imagination, they succeed in keeping their new member and guitarist.

Along with the tasks of school and homework, Yui begins to learn the guitar with the help of the other band members, experiencing many mishaps along the way. However, with the school festival drawing near and Yui getting stuck with her practice, will the Light Music Club be ready in time for their debut?

3. Kill Me Baby
Kill Me Baby is the touching story of Yasuna, a normal (?) high school girl, and Sonya, her best friend who happens to be an assassin. Unfortunately, little Sonya's trained assassin instincts often work against her and others in her daily high school life, as Yasuna's often-broken wrist can attest to. She just wanted a hug, but she ended up with a broken neck. Isn't it sad? No, it's hilarious.

Not even Yasuna's intense ninja training can prepare her for the exciting adventures in this explosive 4-panel manga adaptation.

4. Tentai Senshi Sunred
(Astro Fighter Sunred)

Tentai Senshi Sunred is the magnificent story of the conflict between good and evil that takes place in the city of Kawasaki. Sunred, ally of justice, is dedicated to stopping the evil organisation Florsheim on their quest for world domination, while General Vamp and his minions are constantly thinking up new schemes to defeat Sunred. In what sounds like a typical story, the characters make all the difference.

Our hero Sunred is rude, violent, and lazy, playing pachinko all day and leeching off of his girlfriend Kayoko Uchida. Meanwhile General Vamp is polite, conscientious, and an ideal homemaker who cooks, mothers his minions, and discusses housekeeping with Kayoko, who bickers constantly with Sunred. Even the monsters of Florsheim tend to be adorable and harmless.

Each episode is comprised of several shorts weighing in at anywhere from a few minutes to a few seconds, and explores the daily lives of these sworn enemies. This is the story of the battle between good and evil that takes place in Kawasaki.

5. Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199
(Space Battleship Yamato 2199)

In the year 2199, Earth faces its greatest crisis. Due to unrelenting bombings by the alien race known as "Gamilas," the planet can no longer sustain its inhabitants. In exactly one year, humanity is set to become extinct.

In desperation, the people of Earth establish the Earth Defence Force, their last defence against the power-hungry Gamilas Empire. However, humanity finds a glimmer of hope after receiving a message from the mysterious planet Iscandar, which offers them a device that would restore Earth to its former glory. With salvation in sight, the Earth Defence Force calls on the prolific Space Battleship Yamato and swiftly assembles a crew to make the 148,000 light-year trek to Iscandar and receive their aid.

Among the crew are young officers Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima, along with several other newly promoted leaders, all under the command of the distinguished Captain Juuzou Okita. Forced to learn how to handle the ship's innovative technology while dealing with the onslaught of Gamilas fleets, the inexperienced cast of Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 must summon every inch of their resolve to survive the many hardships aboard the Yamato and complete their mission: to save humanity before it's too late.

March Comes In Like a Lion 43

It's striking just how much Hina's grown over the course of the series. I don't think that moment of self-reflection in the snow would've been something she would've been capable of in the beginning of the this season, and yet it's remarkable how much Rei has indirectly rubbed off on her and her outlook on life. Her journey this season has been a real joy to watch, as I find stories of maturing into adolescence don't have this much nuance and room to breathe since they're often conflated with other developments designed to mirror that growth. But Hina's blossoming has been very muted in comparison, but I find it all the more striking for its grounded nature. And it's nice that Shaft have not shown themselves to be complacent, using techniques and styles I've not seen in the show before even now, right near the end. It's going to be hard to say goodbye to this series again, but this second season has been everything I could've hoped for and more.

March Comes In Like a Lion 44

A nice pair of chapters to close off the series (at least that we know of). Seeing some amount of resolution to Rei's relationship with his adoptive family was nice, especially because all we know about that period of his life is filtered through his own observations and his relationship with Kyouko. Getting the perspective of his adoptive mother was key considering what little we knew of her before this, and paints a sad but understandable portrait of their strained relationship that will likely never find its proper resolution. But seeing Hina make the most of the time she had left before high school and saying goodbye in her own way to her feelings for Takahashi was very sweet. She's no longer the little girl she was at the start of the series, and even Rei, in his own indelicate way, can see that now. What lies ahead for her may be unknown, but she won't be alone anymore, and I think that will make all the difference for her road ahead. I do so wish we get a third season, but if this to be the end of March Comes In Like a Lion, I'll still be glad it we got this much. I called it my best show of last year and the end of this season has done nothing to change my mind about that. I will miss this show, it's been a delight to watch for the better part of a year. But just as Hina said, time keeps flowing, and people move forward. Best to take that to heart as the show comes to an end.

This show is just so damn good... I just watched ep.43 again since I watched them out of order yesterday and it is such a powerful episode for the family and Rei.

Rei has grown over the past season more than anyone. He has come to grips with not only everyone around him, but more importantly, himself. He's no longer that feeble little boy not able to even help himself. He can now be strong, focus on what he wants/needs to do and fight for others. Watching him with Hina as she went through her own struggles and growth has been amazing...

What a damn good show not only content wise, but the visuals and OST are amazing and on point as well.... If no miracle happens in the next 8 months, this show will be at the top of my AOTS list with very iittle chance of it getting bounced.

Mirza is a lot of things, but he's not a rapist. Calling him that robs Marrine of her agency, ironically.

Hmm. Yeah, "rape" may not be 100% the correct term, however, using sex as a power play/ "conquest" and Marinne giving in to it to gain him as an ally says all you need to know about him. IT was a gross scene in all aspects.....

Best anime last season were Devilman Crybaby and Hellshake Yano.

In for Hero Academia, Steins;Gate, and Persona 5 (which isn't in the list, lol).

Wasn't really a power play so much as a resolve test. He'd been betrayed because of the aims of some "peaceful" man in Villar. He wasn't about to watch that happen again because the Queen was in love with her enemy. If she were willing to throw that love away, compromise that love for the sake of conquest, then she'd be worth working with.

Marrine on the flip side is tired of being disrespected, and has been out maneuvered too many times . She tried peace and marrying the man she loved, but it got her father killed. So now she's taken the war route . And if she were going to do it she'd need allies. So she actively chooses to broker this bond with Mirza. Granted, she regrets it but she's already committed the universe equivalent of a war crime by engaging in chemical warfare. So fuck it, right?

The scene is still gross, but mostly because it was they spent two episodes building up this love only to destroy it.

For the new thread:

Checking if there's any interest in having an AnimeERA group trip to Japan next year.

We'll most likely be going sometime in week 15-17 2019.

Going for 8-13 days. Half in Tokyo and then the rest in the Kansai (Kyoto/Osaka) region.

Estimated budget should be about $1000+flight cost if you want to only join us for the first half in Tokyo and about $2000+flight cost if you want to join in on the whole trip. This depends on what kind of accommodation we'll get.

You will need to confirm if you're going and order your own flight by late November 2018.

I will help out getting us an apartment, hostel and/or hotel for a cheap price.

Had 3 different trips while at the old place with Line X, Theonik, zswordsman, Kewlmyc, ShadowSoldier89, tauke and ThreePi

Some of the things we could be checking out in Tokyo:
Shibuya Crossing
Ghibli museum
Akihabara
Nakano Broadway
Odaiba (which has that giant Gundam statue and other stuff)
Other things you want to check out

Some of the things we could be checking out in Kansai region:
Temples and shrines in Kyoto
Daytrip to Hiroshima
KyoAni Shop
Nipponbashi
Uji (The city shown in Sound! Euphonium)
Other things you want to check out

People who's shown interest:

At first I thought Amanchu was Aikatsu, then I read the titles with the numbers and thought something was up.

Then I saw everything else and I started dying of laughter.

This community doesn't really hold the Tokyo Ghoul animes in high regard tbh.
Those that like the manga generally hold the anime in contempt for butchering the source and I don't think many anime-only watchers here cared much about it either.
Then :re is a 'sequel' manga that many feel pretty... lukewarm towards even among those that liked or loved the original manga, so that and the previous anime seasons being of... questionable quality and season 2 doing it's own thing entirely aren't doing :re many favors I guess.

Personally I want to check out ~10-15 shows this season and :re isn't one of them :)
(And I loved the original TG manga)

I am pretty hooked on Haikyu -- it is a ton of fun. I will check out Kuruno's (sp?) Basket after I finish it since I know Production IG made it as well. Thought a few of you might get a kick out of this observation I made from a Haikyu episode:

I am up to Episode 11 or so of season 2 now.

Fair enough but looking at myanimelist, the views the PVs have on YT and the fact that Funimation is doing a same-day dub for it, it is undoubtedly gonna be one of the most watched shows.

Kuruno's (sp?) Basket
"Kuroko's Basketball"
But yes you should definitely check it out once you're done with Haikyu. I love Haikyu and I like Kuroko even more.

That's MAL, which, when it comes to opinions, we don't really care about. The list is based on what the community is interested in.

The show has had two series, both of which were piss poor. It's not exactly earned a place on the list.

Similar to how ResetERA isn't really representative of the wider gaming landscape, AnimeERA isn't really representative of the general anime fandom and thank god for that.
In other words: we don't really care about MAL popularity and scores and such much :P

Which is why I'm going to continue shilling Majin Bone, which has a piss-poor score of 6.8 on MAL while I believe it's absolutely top 10 AOTY material if I had watched it while it was airing.

In other words: we don't really care about MAL popularity and scores and such much :P

Which is why I'm going to continue shilling Majin Bone, which has a piss-poor score of 6.8 on MAL while I believe it's absolutely top 10 AOTY material if I had watched it while it was airing.
Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification.
