Re:Zero ep 12-21

Rem has upgraded from waifu to plain wife.

Episode 15.... that was probably the worst thing I've ever watched in terms of emotional hit. Worse than Grave of the Fireflies.

It was like someone punched you in the gut

then kicked you in the balls

then stabbed you in the balls

then punched you where your balls used to be

You know, it's kind of sad just how forgotten Madoka Magica has become if this show is what's being ranked as powerful emotional punches these days.

Dang, that masterpiece aired back in 2011. That was eight years ago. Its tenth anniversary is in two years.

The Rose of Versailles 13

Dear Lord, that revolution is going to be ugly but it couldn't come sooner. I had assumed Oscar was well aware of the people's plight but as it turns out she was not. It's only now that she's come to the realization. Unfortunately she cannot go back to the Palace to warn Antoinette. Some vacation she's going to have.

The fluidity of the animation, especially in Carole's segments, is the most impressive part. The choreography is a bit simple (I think) but the animation itself is insanely smooth.

?
It's heavily layered and has lots of moving parts.

Well, it isn't animated on ones, so it's bad. /s

Yeh dunno, rewatching it twice more that criticism of mine doesn't seem appropriate. Maybe because the focus is so clear on the character animation that e.g. Carol's close-up dancing and pirouettes just feel a tad choppy to me because...dunno, 12fps kinda is and there's no smearing or anything here to blur the motion together more?

Can't help it, I think it looks stylistically great and I love the sort of character animation and yet it's here that I catch me thinking that it could be even smoother. And an OP is one of the very few places where I could realistically hope to see animating it in full 24fps (even then on just rare occasions and likely only for a shot or two). :|

Every other episode of Re:Zero is a continuous stream of feels in the same tier as the Homura backstory ep or Sayaka's downfall.

Maybe it's been a bit but I don't really remember many emotional gut punches in Madoka.

OPM S2 2

Sonic vs Genos should have probably been hype as hell but due to the production was just kinda eh. Atleast the humour is still there but even then the production of this whole series just really drags it down.

Shield Hero 15

What an episode. Poor Raphtalia and the other demi humans. Getting squashed was still too good of a death for that guy

YU-NO ep.3
Wait, so he just stops using the time gadget all of a sudden and this becomes a sad story about his step mother.... Now that it was mentioned that this comes from an H-game I cannot watch without thinking each scene will lead to some twisted Porn-hub style hentai scene...

Homura would tell Subaru to git gud, scrub.

Really.

The entire-

"I've chosen to continue travelling back in time for who knows how long to desperately prevent the only person I could consider a friend from making a deal with a genie rabbit only for her to make said deal with that genie rabbit turning herself into basically a god that prevents other girls from getting screwed over by the genie rabbit at the cost of her own existence with me being the only one to remember her, and the only way to release her from the suffering from that non-existence is to basically turn myself into the embodiment of all that is evil and condemn myself to an existence where I one day may have to fight her in order to keep her in a world where she can be happy."-

-thing CLEARLY has no emotional gut-punch to it at all, and clearly has the same tier of Re:Zero's-

"I'm some guy that gets sent to a fantasy world and every time I die I get sent back to a previous unknown save point and I must protect some random girl I just met and I have now sworn myself to have her as my bride after she saved my life in the exact same day I've met her and oh no turns out dying over and over again is really painful and sad."

-level of emotional integrity!

You know what? I didn't really think much of Re:Zero before. But after typing all that out, I think I now despise it.

I wonder why they changed Raphtalia's actions in that scene. She stabs him and pushes him through the window in the LN and the manga. Now the fat sadist gets a "you're not worth killing" speech and trips out by himself.

Well this seems like a dumb change in the anime

The story tried really hard to make me care about all of this, but the fact that the whole situation is only being brought up by chance, because they happened to be nearby, really kills any kind of emotional impact the episode was going for.

Of course.

Someone in the staff was having a lot of fun with certain elements this episode lol

Also the final sequence reminded me how good the side characters in this anime are - they really feel like their own people who don't purely exist for the main character's development or love life.

Homura can at least change into superhero with super ability. Subaru is just normal dude that died in every kind of bad way everytime he loop. What a false equivalence lol

Madoka's overrated.

Re:Zero is fantastic.

That's my shallow take.

(I don't know why they're being compared.)

One day I'll watch the Madoka movies to see if it makes me like the franchise like so much of the internet does. The series just kind of felt... predictable.

Yes

Bless you <3

I thought the first two movies are condensed versions of the TV series. Rebellion is the sequel to the show/those two movies.
Aha, well maybe I'll watch those movies for the recap, then. Not sure when I'll get around to it, but sometimes soon, I think.

How can anyone say "I can't remember any emotional gut punches in Madoka" with a straight face when episode 10 is a thing that exists. Even if you somehow ignore the rest of the series.

EDIT - Somehow read "many" as "any" which kind of undermines this post, but I stand by the sentiment.

Rem's best moment was when Subaru landed in her boobs and she was like, "thank you so much for treating me". Almost forgave the entire love triangle just for that.

it's been a long time since I've seen it so I don't even remember what exactly happened in that episode. I just remember binging it in one night til like 2am.

I'm sad I'll never be able to experience Madoka for the first time again. God, what a ride. I wish I watched it while it was airing too.

Alright now that I'm home and got to watch it on a proper monitor, I strongly disagree with all of what you just said. Something like this, https://sakugabooru.com/data/6956a5f4241513696f1b9b89902428ec.mp4
doesn't need blurs. There's nothing choppy about this, especially when a sense of speed isn't trying to be articulated but rather beauty and grace in her poses and form.

I think Golden Kamuy started out really average but got better as it went along. The second half of Season 2 in particular was really entertaining.
