Astra Lost in Space 2 - DROPPED
I think it's becoming apparent remarkably quickly that I've watched far too much Star Trek for me to find Astra Lost in Space's approach to interacting with alien worlds anything but deeply frustrating. There's far too little focus either in the organization of the crew or the practicalities of working with xeno-biology that make much of the survival parts maddening as someone who likes science fiction. I'm trying to remember the last time I saw something as stupid as someone who was gathering alien plant life just deciding to grab one and eat it without any tests of the plant whatsoever. Even if Vilavurs is supposed to be an M-class planet (as proven by the atmosphere being viable for human consumption - and let's not even get into the idea of alien pathogens), just assuming that any plant life you find there is perfectly edible is as dumb an idea as it is here on Earth. And let's not talk about how everyone seems to have a skill that makes them an invaluable member of the team that only comes up when it's absolutely necessary, like Kanata's athleticism (somehow never actually touched on in the first episode despite the time given to his past in that episode) or Aries' photographic memory somehow never coming up before people are running from the sphere inexplicably showing up again because the story was slowing down too much. Are they planning on running this trip home like a summer camp or like a star ship? And because the author can't seem to come up with natural drama that comes from the scenario itself, boom: now there's a traitor! Yeah, no: Astra has quickly proven it's too unscientific and contrived without providing any meaningful compensation in character work or effect storytelling to make me think the idiocy of the crew is worth sticking around to see.

How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? 2
I find it interesting just how much time in any given episode is designated to giving out fitness information that not only gives you performance aid for common stretches using relatively standard gym equipment, but also beneficial advice for muscle toning, protein use, and exercises you can do at home to work on particular areas both with and without weights. It's remarkable in how little it takes to really get you invested in trying out some of these things at home (and helping you realize how out of shape you really are), but I think that's what the best edutainment strives for. It's not to say that the actual character and narrative still isn't fun in the way most CGDCT shows usually are, it's just a surprise that's not the only draw here, and I'm kind of glad it takes it's other qualities as seriously as it does because I don't know how remarkable the other material would be without it.

That's a shame, I wanted to hear some more opinions before I started the extra long pilot but this on top of everyone else's posts makes me want to drop it.

Ms Vampire Neighbour -DROPPED-

Perfectly meh tier adaption, light yuri overtones, nothing standout, dropped. I actively started doing driver updates halfway through the ep, which is always a good sign.

YES! MORE CHIHAYAFURU PLEASE
I'm just hoping the anime is good, especially since it was already delayed 6 months.

granted we don't know how many episodes the new season is, and it might not have been delayed due to production issues, but instead because the mangaka is wrapping up the story and had more to say at the end than originally expected and they want it to adapt the rest of the manga *shrugs*

either way more chihayafuru will be fun, and the sentai dub for it isn't bad in general. And it's a big enough title that they will likely dub it pretty quickly (like girls in a dungeon this season) which will be nice, but will also mean I will be like a month behind everyone else.

granted I have read most of the manga to this one :P

Dumbbells 02

Still great, still funny.

Vinland Saga 02-03

Absolutely in love with this. Thors so far is a pretty fucking awesome character. I can't help but feel like his son is going to lead to his downfall though.

Magic Tits 02

She sure likes tying up people and herself in ropes.

Astra is one of those litmus test shows that come around regularly where you can instantly tell that anyone who puts up with it has virtually no standards for what they consume. The production is just so absurdly poor and there's nothing remotely endearing about it. The horrible use of DoF and intentionally cropped border is genuinely nauseating, and the layouts aren't even accommodating to the limited space. If you really like the manga or whatever, cool, but shame on anyone pushing this show.

All the band anime
Sound Euphonium Movie
The characters/plot threads that were given the most prominent amount of screen time (so Kumiko and Kanade's arcs) I enjoyed, while the rest felt too limited/condensed to be fully satisfying or interesting. Of these story beats the one that probably could have used the most extra time was the Shuichi/Kumiko relationship. It was funny how Reina was pretty much adjacent to every scene between them.

The big performance has like a 3-4 minute stretch where it has the duet part from Liz and the Blue Bird and it kind of made me wish I was watching that film again (though that it is probably an unfair comparison lol). Wonder in what form year 3 will be adapted.

Given 01
Best parts were the ones that dealt with how the enthusiasm of a beginner rekindled interest in a veteran player. Will see if it picks up from here since there since it was a little slow at points.

Trailer needed more Retro.

Dr Stone 3

And lo to the surprise of nobody our
villain
is revealed.
I am surprised though that Crunchyroll is putting so much weight behind this. As while I like the manga its not a series that I feel has particularly wide appeal.

Loved how this show taught me how to make soap.

This show is gonna be highly enjoyable only because I'm a science major lol. So seeing how certain things are made is cool.

Fire Force Episode 2:

Oh look, here is the standard shonen rival trying to do the standard shonen rival things and I could not be more bored with it. On the upside this episode does explore the implcations of the infernals and that offered up some genuine emotional content.

Attack on Titan S3

I dropped this somewhere near the end of season 2 when it was airing, but picked it back up due to the very positive reception it was getting last season (and also because there's not really that much I care about this season). And it surprisingly managed to live up to all the hype, as I liked it so much I basically binged it in a couple of days.

Particularly the second part of season 3 felt like a huge step up compared to the rest of the show. Not so much in the visuals, which actually felt slightly weaker than in some previous seasons, but in terms of the writing (which is where the show always kind of fell flat to me). And that's because the show finally managed to really flesh out a lot of its boring one note characters. Erwin in particular went from being just a badass hype machine to straight up the best character in the show (except he's also at his most badass here), and Armin finally feels like he actually has a reason to be one of the 3 primary protagonists (too bad they couldn't do the same for Mikasa).

But most of all, I appreciate the show turning away from just being a gory murder fest with a dash of despair porn and into something that actually treats war like a terrible thing for everyone involved while still remaining somewhat hopeful by the end of it all. Not that the show was bad in the beginning, but it's nice to have some nuance.

As for all of the lore reveals, I can't say I particularly care about them. Although for how out there they are, I do appreciate that they at least make sense. But they just don't add any value to the actual show for me, and I really have to wonder where it can even go from here, especially without studio WIT working on it. Well, it's pretty obvious where it's going to go from here, but I just don't really see how they can keep that sort of thing interesting and unique. But on the other hand, the S3 ending actually feels like a pretty good stopping point to me.

Damn dimb, still as brutally honest and on-point as ever.

It's wild to see a long running josei manga continuing to be adapted. Shame I've never had any interest in it.

It's a shame they didn't go more in depth. The manga shows the procedure, even. Lol

Mama Online

10/10. Would level up with his best mom.

On the point side, the premise is good and I personally think mom is caring for his son a lot which Ma is kinda annoyed in his age rebellion. I mean, it's light-hearted MILF of isekai anime, so I kinda get that.

Now doujinshi version, when?

Batch Ep 1 Impressions

Dr Stone Ep 1
Man forgot how meh the start of this series is (not like it goes taking off and turns great later, but at least the enjoyable stupidity of SCIENCE of it is fun), animations are....not great but have generally on model characters and nice background work seen throughout. Nothing about the direction/storybording stands out so far, sorta just blurs together for me. Will be interested to see how direction wise it will handle certain scenes as the series progresses.

Fire Force Ep 1
Ughhhh the direction/storybording is soo fucking awkward in the OP, feels clunky and off-putting in comparison to the actual animation quality seen in the OP. The amount of hard cuts rather then transitions to the next piece is also another unfortunate issue with this OP. These issues and positives correlate with the show itself with it being filled with some weird storybording and directional choices, though they don't take away from the superb animation as much for whatever reason for me. This show will probably live and die off it's aerial choreography since that's how our MC tends to fight. Only thing I can really so is hopefully the storybording/direction issues get hammered out as the show progresses.

Granbelm Ep 1
I can already tell this is going to be a show I'll like more then the actually quality of the show actually deserves. I give them lots of credit for going with actual 2D drawn mechas instead of going the CG route that I sorta fear most if not all series of the genre will go with. Now, will the story actually work and do something for me, hard to say, but the coming episodes should answer that question with them likely being lore/story focus rather then shoving us face first into this world with little to to know knowledge.

Hakata Mentai! Pirikarako-chan Ep 1
I was hoping this would fill the Teekyuu hole in my heart, it did none of that since I misinterpreted what type of show it's going for. It's only 4 mins of my life wasted a week so sure...

Wasteful Days of High School Girl Ep 1
Generally captures the charm that was found in the manga, but fuck that OP and that song that's now stuck in my head.

Fate Something Lord Dork Ep 1 + OVA
First time ever touching the Fate series, all I know about the Fate series is via osmosis of being constantly surrounded by FGO addicts. I got one main fact down from watching this, Waver is a dork and I love him for being such a dork. Rock on dork Waver.

One Piece Wano Arc Ep 1
First time watching a OP anime episode in....4-5 years since I decided to just stick with the manga. There is a place or two where I could nitpick, but this was a damn great adaption of the start of the arc deciding to flesh out the right areas of the story rather then slowing everything down.

Tejina-senpai Ep 1
Trash with no value, but I'm already in too deep.

Just a breather episode after the intensity of last week. Still, it was great to see the mabudachi trio together and for them to work on Hatori's story. A nice confirmation that, yes indeed, we'll be getting the whole thing. It still surprises me that, even though they said they would from the start.

Huh...I think I like this show. some more progress on our main characters this week with some backstory on mages and what granbelm is. I think mangetsu is a pretty cool character so far and I can't wait to see what they do with her and shingetsu.

Granbelm 2

After hooking the audience on mecha action last week, this time there's proper character work being done. And it's actually not bad. Mostly with main character Mangetsu, who lets her kindness be taken advantage of so that she can at least be properly acknowledged by others. Sort of a darker take on I Just Want to be Special. She acts pure, but is she really? Wonder what role the non-mecha magic will have. Shingetsu got to play the awkward broody dork, as appropriate for her Homura role. Potential there. Show is looking up from last week.

The only thing I didn't like about Hi Score Girl was the character designs. Why does everyone have shark teeth? And why does that one girl have hair around her eye lids?

MommyMMO episode 1

Bulldozer mom is adorable and possibly scary. Also Satomi Arai is enjoyable as always. YOU WILL ALL ENJOY SATOMI ARAI.
