Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai 1
An older brother can dream, can't he? Kyousuke wants to get along with his real little sister. She appears, all nice, in his dream, but gets called out for being a fake. He wants the truth, so he prods the sleeping dog lying on the other side of his bedroom wall... but the tables turn on him. After letting his cornered sister go out of mercy, she launches a counterattack in the dead of night. It's time for truth or dare, or as the pair call it, "life counseling."
The most notable details about the Kirino in Kyousuke's dream is that she sports her natural hair color and calls him "Onii-chan"—something he later thinks to himself would just be irritating in reality. Kirino's design doesn't rely too heavily on visual charm points. She does show some traces of gyaru fashion with her dyed hair, scrunchie, and speech patterns, but is otherwise restrained because she's a child role model, as well as being a fashion model (in a somewhat old school setting). Behavior is where she definitely stands out. She's tsundere to a T, and incredibly passionate.
Kyousuke had to really think about whom that disc case belonged to, huh? Despite having just collided with Kirino where he found it, and after the contents of her bag fell out... I guess he went into shock or something. It's hard to blame him after finding incest porn inside an already out of place magical girl anime disc case, and his mom kept walking in on him at the worst times. He then set up a trap and lures out his prime suspect with her questionable belonging as bait. Affirming his suspicion, he loses interest, and says whatever to make her go away after she begins scrutinizing herself. Him playing it cool obviously invoked something in her because later, he's invited to her room. After reaffirming his nonchalant stance, she exposes her secret hobby of buying and playing incest computer games, as well as anime aimed at children. She lets him go after he proposes to help her keep it all secret because their dad would flip, although, she shows some desire to be open about it. This goes on for an hour, and showcases their current distance; he didn't even know she was a fashion model or that she was attending morning practice for track and field.
Kirino then becomes dead set on playing one of her games with Kyousuke so he can help her understand herself. So, after their first "life counseling" session, she stayed up by herself for another hour after coming out as an incest porn fanatic to him (at the sensitive age of 14), and then decided that would be the next, immediate course of action. At 3 a.m. She desperately wanted to rope him into her underworld--to strike while the iron's hot. When asked why, she's taken aback, as if the implications of playing through a pro-incest game—with graphic depictions—alongside her real older brother never crossed her mind. She goes as far as to tell him he's acting strange by being conscious about it. It's far-fetched to believe she just wanted companionship. Each step is more suspect than the last. The corruption runs deep from the get-go, but is bizarre nonetheless.
Why was she carrying that material around with her anyway? Three times, she asked Kyousuke for validation throughout the episode. It's desperate, but also kind of telling. Why him of all people? When asked directly, she ignored that question. She also said that before she knew it, she fell in love. With incest computer games, the characters in them, or something else? It's hard to tell since the magical girl anime is a curveball—despite being the sole outlier—and the fact that she talked at length about the character in one rather than any other facet. Wondering out loud if she should talk to their parents about it after Kyousuke can't come up with a way to handle her situation on the spot, he vehemently opposed doing that for some reason. It's ironic how his (forced) means of taking responsibility turns into fostering her hobby. It could be that he wanted to keep the only thing linking him to his sister at this point in their lives to himself out of a desperate desire to mend their strained relationship. In any case, being an authoritive figure 3 years her senior, partaking should not have been the way to go.
This series is truly far gone when you think about what takes place and how it unfolds. Kirino's display of passion for those games as just games saved her from stricter criticism for the time being. She even brought up the argument of not mixing 2D with 3D, i.e. fiction with reality. Still, with a beginning like this, I can only see it ending one way. Now Kyousuke embarks on becoming as desensitized as she is. What leads to such a rotten duo, and can/will they redeem themselves? What—if anything—could support their paths, besides each other's convictions? Finally, what recourse is there if things go too far?

I said I will watch this earlier this year but got distracted. I said the same for Sound! Euphonium a year ago but never did watch it. Tomorrow that will be fixed.

It was honestly pretty distracting. It was all i could focus on with that huge screen. Scratchy lines, impartial and flickering lines, blobby details on smaller faces, it's like they xerox'd every frame. Made it look cheap.

I remember loving Soul Eater. Was i wrong to do so? This is so bad!!!
Man I fucking HATE zenitsu. I'm not a fan of most of the characters in general though to be honest. They're all one note tropes with little to no development almost two cours in.

millennium actress restoration wasn't perfect but I don't think it was really that distracting. maybe I'm not just as picky as some of yall about digital restorations. there were actually a few grammatical and timing errors in the subs that were more distracting to me.

I am watching Karakuri Circus, in the middle of season 2.
I don't think this series is good in the traditional sense. It isn't an ironic love, but there is something about the pacing and the dumb plot points/character developments that keeps me engaged.
Though some of the fight scenes are just awful. They had a fight against a robot marry go round, and the shots were composed so badly that it was hard to tell what was even happening.
Thinking more about it, the series is bad (especially the flashbacks), but eh, I still enjoy it, if only to find out what bonkers melodrama they fall into next.
Also watching the Wasteful Days of High School girls, and it feels like "Nichijou: the Next Generation," especially with the 3 main character archetypes. It annoyed me a little bit the first episode, but by the second episode, I appreciated the more grounded approach they are giving. Not quite Asobi Asobase quality yet, but I will certainly give it a chance.

How does one drop Fire Force because of the best character in new anime focused on the shonen genre this year today. like, arthur is amazing.
That's good to hear. I don't mind dumb characters but I have my limits on how dumb someone can be. I'm mostly fine with him being a walking 8th grade syndrome trope so far but I can't handle stupidity like that.
So far he has done nothing to be considered amazing. Combat ability is rarely ever a deciding factor for if I like a character (same with character design) and outside of that he so far has been a walking 8th grade syndrome trope and too stupid to know which hand he uses. He hasn't shown any signs of character depth at all so far, and hasn't remotely improved the plot in any way so far. He's been completely useless plot wise, seemingly only existing to be a rival to the main character, but the main character doesn't even seem to care if Arthur exists unless he is in the same room as him.
It's not like he has been harming the plot though. He isn't a character like Minata from MHA that actively makes the show worse whenever he is on screen (and yes I remember for some reason you actually like Minata which that one I out right don't understand. I at least understand why you would like Arthur), he's just kind of there. Thus why I'm asking if Arthur eventually gets better. For the most part he has been an inoffensive waste of space, but if he is going to be doing stuff as stupid as not knowing which hand he uses he crosses from inoffensive over into groan inducing I wish he would go away territory.
To be fair Gray in Fairy Tail was in a similar boat with me until we started getting into his backstory stuff, at which point he moved to being an alright character, so perhaps this will be a similar case for me.
I'm still planning to watch fire force for now. After all it's a timely dub and has nice animation. I'm not hating it, but I haven't really found anything to latch onto and love either. I at least still remember it comes out on fridays to watch it, but it's typically the last of my friday pile to watch.
I think my friday pile typically has been going
Fruits Basket --> Battle Bots --> Dr. Stone --> Girls in a dungeon --> Fire force.
also just to be clear, the Arthur would just be the tipping point potentially, he wouldn't remotely be the main reason I would drop it. Cat girl would be way higher on the list of reasons than him if she starts showing up more.
zulux21 I'm in a similar boat as of now with Fire Force. I think for me, outside of the small number of shows I'm watching this season, is that I was a big fan of Soul Eater and was hoping for something as unique and interesting as that coming from the same mangaka. It just hasn't proven itself or really grabbed me as quickly as I had hoped. The framework is there, but it feels far more rushed and less interesting as you'd expect.

Soul eater was so long ago, I'm trying to remember how I felt watching it week by week.
I recall not being impressed with the first 3 episodes of soul eater, and annoyed that soul/maka seemingly got regressed in ability quickly. I know I had the thought questioning why the show was getting two different time slot airings, one edited and one unedited (which was fairly rare back then)
I'm having trouble remembering when I started to really like soul eater. I know I liked the theme better than fire force in general, but I don't recall being truly pulled into soul eater right away. Pretty sure I was more grabbed by it at this point, but it's hard to say.
Obviously I'm a fan of soul eater in general, so I still hope fire force will get there.
The first Blackstar episode got me far more interested in the series, but it was probably around the introduction of Crona and Medusa that kind of set up the tone for the series? That's at least where it felt like there was a general shift from soul hunter school to the wider plot. I actually dropped the anime after a handful of episodes and read the manga instead because of how badly butchered the anime was after running out of manga to adapt.
Sad there will probably never be a full Bones adaptation like we got with FMA, but the manga is well worth a read.
I actually enjoy the anime original stuff that most people hate in soul eater.
I need to finish reading the manga sometime though.
I do wish we would get a reboot of it. It's not impossible, just not likely. I'm hoping fruits basket is doing well for the companies involved. There are a number of classic series that could use a revival.
If someone asked me what the best anime ever made was, I'd probably say this. Individual stories are so atmospheric and compelling that it more than makes up for any lack of longer story.

I didn't think watching an anime about weightlifting could be confusing and amazing at the same time.
I wonder when we'll get another show/film with Higashiji's backgrounds. Say w/e you want about the show but I stand by the opinion that NagiAsu has the prettiest backgrounds.
