I thought about picking up Anno 1404 until I can get Anno 1800 but I've read that it doesn't work well on Windows 10? Anyone here play that game on a newer PC have any experience with it?

Is there any way to quickly shift between cities on the old world and new world maps? Assigning a function key to a map location only works on the local map.

It sucks to have to go to the world map every time. I noticed if you have a mission on a different map you can click on entry in the mini mission log thing and it brings you to the other map instantly. Unfortunately you still need to go to the world map to get back to the original map.

There's a button below the mini-map that opens a pop-up menu which lets you go to the new or old world directly. Still two clicks but better than going through the world map at least.

I started my sandbox over because my town was a mess but I'm really happy how my new one is turning out.

I feel like the game's still missing some quality of life stuff, like just shift clicking a road and it selecting the whole grid for upgrade or the upgrade tool being used for roads as well. Automatic road upgrade would be welcome too.

Have to say this feels like the hardest Anno I've played by quite a bit, admittedly I've only played the last three, but the sheer amount of things going on at once and the complexity of the production chains feels much harder. Loving the game, and think the changes they've made regarding workforce and everything else are excellent - but definitely harder!

You can sandbox without AI for example
You can? I haven't found a way to remove the AI. Seems like custom sandbox still requires three AI players no matter what. I've set them to the 1 star ones for chill games but would prefer no competition. Maybe I've missed an option somewhere. You can turn off the pirates though.

Yes you can. Right click on the AI and they'll disappear. Only thing you can't remove are the two pirate factions.

This game needs a detailed economic ledger system badly to tell much how much is being produced and how much is going out and that also shows your imports and exports. The warehouse storage menu only tells me if my stocks of certain items are increasing. It's hard to tell at a glance how many resources you can sell off without screwing yourself. Also, about the artisan question the houses did fill up after I got people fully satisfied with their luxury needs. Unfortunately now I'm reliant on importing stuff because I can't make canned food locally. The game gets harder and harder as my staffing demands increase and my heavy industry on tutorial campaign island is polluting the place so less people want to migrate to my town. I am really enjoying the challenge, though. Lots of things to manage and build. I like making realistic looking cities so I have a sort of slum district where all the farmers live, a working class district with better housing, and there is a new middle/upper class emerging.

As my first Anno game, I agree. Going through the campaign now, about 80% completion and I'm sitting at $1.5M which I dont even know is good, but I am flying about everywhere trying to keep up, its insane. 4 islands in the old world and 4 in the new world with no way of checking how each island is doing without clicking on that awful map and hoping ypu remember where your islands are.

I have also now started to lose money, slowly, but I have no way of finding out which island is suffering without, again, clicking on each one and checking their warehouse.

Absolutely loving the game, but it has some pretty major QoL issues that I hope they address. Wheres any stat sheets in the game? Cant see a single one.

DX12 crashes now even below the 1000 artisan theshold. Had a crash with only about 200 workers.

DX12 seems to crash in a lot of Ubisoft games for some reason. Is this game using the Snowdrop engine as well or something else?

For some bizarre reason my main island is slowly filling up with champagne, chocolate and cigars. I have zero production of these anywhere, and no trade for them. Any suggestions?

Yeah I hope we see a fix for the Steam version soon.

Does anyone know how to actually find the links for the DLC on Steam? I found the links in a Steam Community forum post but I can't actually find them myself on the store at all.

I'm kind of tempted to just refund and pick it up once it goes on sale on uPlay. Going to wait and see if they fix the Steam version before I put more than 2 hours in I think.

Or maybe I should just delete the game on Steam and redownload it through uPlay.

I am really getting deep into the game now. It has such a nice balance of challenge but damn if it's not near overwhelming with >50 different resources at this point and all these different locations.

The trick definitely was to get a very stable populace in one area at a time. Lots of resources, everything the population needs AND a large money surplus AND defense and transport... everything. Then finally moving on with higher tiers of residents and/or quests.

Copping a major progression-breaking bug on Expert difficulty campaign. If the Hard AI in the New World takes out the La Isla settlement (and you retake it), it breaks the pathfinding waypoints of ships for the story-related escort quest, sending them all the way down south for an indefinite period.

Hope it's fixed soon since I'm not too keen on going back to a save set a couple hours back.

Ubisoft is apparently going to release free DLC which includes more detailed statistics tracking. Not sure why it wasn't a priority for day one but it's better than nothing.

Statistics Building

One request we have seen from many of the more experienced Anno players that love to go all in on the min-maxing is to have more information about their production chains and their output available. To provide you this information, we will be introducing a new statistics building in the future.

I was $100 dollars away from running out of money, lol. Had to bail myself out by selling a couple of ships, then I got the economy working again by deleting a lot of surplus production buildings.

I wanted to add a specific comment about performance now that I've played a lot...

System spec: i9-9900k and 2080.

DX11 vs DX12 - ALL max settings except AA at 4x rather than 8x at 1080p:

At the start of the game on my island, on DX11 I can get 60fps with a few drops, but DX12 slugs around 48fps...

Much later in the game - engineers, multiple islands etc, in DX12 it stays 30-45fps, but in DX11 it feels real slow - didn't measure frame rate but I think it's around 20fps or even less.

So DX12 really benefits when there are a ton of objects to spit onto the screen.

I found it easier in my sandbox game, instead of renovating and beautifying my original island for investors and such, I would just leave my first island as my heavy industry capital and build a new city on my spacious bread and beer producing island.

So my new island is titled something like "breathtaking metropolis" with every conceivable modern convenience, parks everywhere, a huge museum and two separate zoos (one is an aquarium) no vulgarity or pollution besides a coupe of power plants, a worlds fair exhibit running every half hour or so, and near continuous parades marching down the cobblestone streets.

On the other hand my starting island is labeled a "funeral capital" and is just a maze of factories and pig farms stacked on top of each other, bursting into flames with regularity. No improvements have been made to the residential area of that island since the new city was founded, unless you count putting police stations every other block to grind the near constant riots into the still-dirt streets.

Maintenance costs are killing me. Have barely made it to artisans and I'm not really sure what else I can do at the moment. Is there a vital strategy for the campaign I'm not aware of? Should I be aggressively expanding into these undiscovered islands on the map? Trade routes so far with these folks haven't been enough to keep me out of the red.

Make sure you are supplying the happiness requirements for your people as well as their basic needs - that adds a lot of extra revenue. Also, make sure you have a lot more people than you need right now - you'll always need more later on, thanks to the pyramid structure of the tiers, and the more people you have the more money you earn.

Also, if you really need cash just craft frigates and sell them to the AI (the queens representative). At 21k every 6 minutes it's a fair amount.

Thanks. Wasn't seeing the direct correlation between the goods and income. Big help.

Edit: And damn I have enough materials stockpiled to make 10 frigates to sell. I think I can eventually buy back shares of my island with this lol.

Also FWIW it took me about 5 hours to notice that all townspeople had a happiness tab. I wondered where the fuck my beers were disappearing off to!

I have around 1,5 Million, but I still struggle with the upkeep, need to expand again I guess ;) I have soo many trade routes now and I think my Zoo and Museum is way to big, it just costs influence points in a big way and you need those to improve your income by a lot through the newspaper and for other late game buildings.

From $13k to my name and a -500 income to $100k and $1k income in 20 minutes. God damn buying back sold shares does so much for you.

So much green space and attractions and they still complain about the "little" industry ;)

Do your people die? After a while my numbers of people start to fall or at least change, but no indication why.
They don't die but they leave if goods are missing.

Click on some houses and check they fundamental needs and luxury needs, also you can over the mouse on one of the bars, it will tell you how many people and coins you get for each good/need.

For an overview of the needs, click on the city market.
