The new year is almost here and with that I think it's time for a change up. What are some really annoying Gamer sayings that you wish would die out in 2019? Here are my least favourite:

"People only like 'game x' because they're nostalgia blind!!"
- I used to get annoyed by this but now I just laugh. Like, damn you don't know me lol. You don't know the extent to which I may have nostalgia for a specific game and for all you know I may have only played a specific game earlier this year.

There was a period of time that this whole "nostalgia blind" mentality actually made me question whether or not I actually liked the Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games. In a way, I'm actually kind of grateful to have gone through that thought process because it helped me not only realise that I actually do like these games, but also helped me figure out why I like them.

"I avoid 'x' franchise because of the fanbase"
- If you're talking about an online multiplayer game like Fortnite which is mainly populated by kids then yeah I get where you're coming from, but for games like Undertale I actually have to roll my eyes. You're an actual weirdo if you don't know how separate a game from its fandom. I really just don't get this mentality.

All fanbases are bad. There's no such thing as a fanbase that's 100% pure and wholesome. It doesn't exist and I challenge you to find me one that does.

In fact, gamers in general just stink so by the logic of avoiding certain franchises because of its fanbase, you should just avoid all video games altogether.

I remember when Sonic Mania was announced and some dingus on NeoGaf was like "what are SEGA thinking by working with sonic fans? better get ready for deviantart porn and fetish material in an official product" or something to that effect. This is just depressing to me. The Sonic fanbase is one of the most talented fanbases I have ever seen for literally anything and to see this unfunny and unthoughtful sweeping generalization that all Sonic fans are "the bad type" just takes me back to 2008 when you'd get called awful things like "sonic-fag" just for expressing any interest in these games. It's like gamers really haven't grown out of this babyish mentality.

"This game is bad because it has bad game design"
- This one is annoying when people say "bad game design" and leave it at that. If you think it's bad design then at least say why or how it's badly designed or what you'd do to improve it. "This is poorly designed" doesn't tell me anything.

Not a phrase, but any form of "lazy devs", or a poster assuming what changes should be in a game based on their assumed time and budget restrictions, despite knowing literally nothing about how game development operates, really annoys me.

"I can't believe Nintendo would allow (insert violent M rated game) on their platform!"

Every single time.

"I'm so tired of 8-bit games".

Very, very few indie games attempt actual 8-bit visuals.

"Respect my time", irks to me to hell and back. It usually almost always translates to "I have no patience"

Corridor, walking simulator and even linear. They aren't inherently negative terms, but they are used that way a lot of the time.

The Op has more like common positions or arguments. I thought this was going to be more about particular turns of phrase. Like, the one I don't like is 'Respect My Time'. Seems to have caught on out of nowhere when you could just say 'I don't like this part.' Or, 'these parts are boring'.

"This game is unplayable"
- 9/10 this is just some dumb hyperbole about one small issue that needs to be patched.

"Is this the Dark Souls of (insert franchise)?"
- Let's stop comparing everything to Dark Souls!

"Draconian DRM policies"
- We get it, you googled the definition of "draconian".

"(Thing X) is anti-consumer!"
- Stop! Just stop with this please!

"Generic Bald Space Marine" that somehow means guy with helmet, and not necessary to be military or in space.
Outside of W40K how do we know these dudes are bald? they could look like Casper Van Dien

"This looks like a PS2 game."

No one is ever correct when using this.
This also often applies to 'this looks like a NES game', both when used as a positive regard for historical reference and negative disregard of a game for choosing pixel art.

Having said that, I liked it when the Shovel Knight designers said that the key to unlocking nostalgia was matching people's memories of what they thought older games were like, not the exact products. Wise words.
