Freedom Fighters was such a baller game when it released. Still waiting for another game that lets you command soldiers on the fly like that game did. So much fun.
to be frank this is another video where i have no idea what dunkey is trying to say at the cost of any kind of humor is the point just "all these games are bleeding together for me and lacking a distinct identity" or what
the video game critics video implies that hes actually serious with all criticisms he makes to some extent so i cant just like toss it off as some stream of consciousness thing
this whole video doesnt work because he brings all these older games into it
the comparison points he uses are like so many and so diverse across more than one genre of games that it gets legitimately lost in a sea of comparisons of games that all set themselves apart
if hes trying to be reflective of aaa gaming today, why bring turok into it?
that game is about killing dinosaurs. a pretty far cry from far cry or really any one of these other fucking games he lists
its really fucking stupid to generalize an actually very diverse set of games that in actuality, maybe are only connected because you shoot a gun.
Me not buying a game doesn't make AAA games that revolve around something other than guns come out. When's elder scrolls VI again?Dont buy em? In today's gaming world you have so many options, some people cant even seem to keep up.

oh yeah, that would be really timely. would be up to the times just like his video game critics video where he uses a ign video from the super mario bros. wii review they did back in 2012.Can't wait for the super original Hollow Shovel Celeste Boy video whining about how indie 2D platformers. Maybe throw in a joke about Phil Fish.
I dont know how you can say this. Dunkey doesnt really make a point to make it so his video goes back in game development time, especially with how it suddenly goes back to anthem mid way through. Maybe the ending but he doesnt make a point to compare any of these games with modern ones so...?
I dunno, why not play Assassin's Creed, Breath of the Wild, God of War, Spider-Man, Monster Hunter World, Super Smash Bros, or any of the other plethora of recent AAA games not based around shooting?Me not buying a game doesn't make AAA games that revolve around something other than guns come out. but how does this show a lack of innovation over a long period of time when most of the games he uses pretty early on came out in like the last three years and then doesn't elaborate at all on this specific point? his point gets lost and fast. There are a lot of little words and remarks in this video that I like a lot. It starts with the title of the video and how he seamlessly talks about many video games at once without exactly singling one out to focus his criticism on. He starts with "welcome to the world of Far Cry Exodus" and then he shows footage of multiple games including Fallout 76 while making sarcastic remarks about the setting all those games are set in (Post apocalyptic) and many more of those little throughout the video.
Basically what he is saying is that there is not enough innovation, but he wraps it in an interesting way of satire in a well crafted way that at first seems like a meaningless mess of video game title combinations, footage and words and that is exactly his point. His point is that the footage he shows, what he says and what game it is doesn't really matter because it is all basically the same and interchangable.

so why does he use alan wake and medal of honor and dead island as examplesMaybe innovation was not the best choice of words I made in that regard. I meant more like that there are all kind of the same in terms of open world games in a futuristic setting with gameplay elements we have seen before.

What's the joke
here's my problem with dunkey. i only expected him to be funny. i didnt think he needed to be any more than that.

Agreed. I was waiting for the punchline. I am fine with a good jab for a chuckle, but the end I realized there was no punchline coming.
But those games aren't actually the same or interchangeable. Like, there's a pretty big difference between Metro Exodus & FC New Dawn in terms of gameplay, story, atmosphere, level design, etc.
Video games are in fact shitI don't think there is any point, I think he is just losing his mind because video games suck so much.
That's most things
It does but then I don't know why people take the video as a means of him shitting on games as if they're all the same. What video games are a "shitty Destiny clone that EA is sucking the life out of" or "turning a failed game into a Battle Royale" or "walk on walls" or "stop time" or "is like Prey"? Do people really think he's trying to make some kind of indicting point with all the word salad?I dont understand the dis at apex legends though? Apex has some clear innovations.

It's just improv riffing. Kinda like this old video.
Not when the games he tries to compare play almost nothing like eachother. He don't like (most) shooters as they like any kind of identity.
Pretty easy point to get across...
Exactly this. Lazy comparisons to make a lazy argument.Like, this argument this video is making is that Alan Wake and Turok and Horizon: Zero Dawn are all the same kind of game. If you actually remember any of those games, you'll know how absurd that comparison is.
This video is a spaghetti meal with no sauce or meatballs.
Just because Dunkey does reviews doesn't mean he's always beholden to em. If you want a serious review, that's what the dunkview is for, and he'd been making them before and after the Game Critics video. That's like saying I shouldn't take Polygon's reviews seriously because Polygon also produces the Unraveled series.see though, thats clearly riffing. that video came before his video game critics video. now? after that video where he suggests his reviews are serious and has done videos where he mostly drops the comedy to make a poor point? i can't just take it as riffing because people will claim he's making a point.
admittedly i should make it clear: i can tell when dunkey is joking and when he's not. most of the time the videos shouldn't be taken seriously if they dont have a dunkview after them (because for whatever reason he decided that needed to be when hes serious) and most of the time he's not trying to argue anything. theres a difference between this video and something like his prank phone call video or his mario odyssey balloon world videos.Just because Dunkey does reviews doesn't mean he's always beholden to em. If you want a serious review, that's what the dunkview is for, and he'd been making them before and after the Game Critics video. That's like saying I shouldn't take Polygon's Unraveled videos seriously because Polygon is also a review site.
see thats the frustrating thing. due to a lack of clarity on a point, it doesnt really come off that way. i can def see how it would be like that but there are other readings of it that are also supported by the video that have big issues if thats the argument.I don't think the video was trying to make some grand evidence-driven statement on the actual reality of gaming. It seems to me to be more a cry of frustration from Dunkey at how so many games offer the same 'feeling' experiences that end up becoming utterly unmemorable. That's not a kind of point that works with the internet's typical "treat everything like a scientific paper" approach to things; of course all those games aren't literally the same game, but to him they definitely feel that way.

I swear the people who say this have got to consume one kind of video game in order to be tired
I swear the people who say this have got to consume one kind of video game in order to be tired
Like how boring can you be
When games like Metro, Prey, Dishonoured and Deus Ex sell so bad that their future is uncertain, it seems most people just want the most basic linear FPS available.
WHICH GENRE? The shooter genre? Why are all these survival games apart of these comparsions? Why is the battle royale genre also here?
