I thought I saw a mod had removed one earlier in the thread?

Lamon Gamon was removed, not skill up IIRC.

My brother is a big fan of DA. I myself played origins and loved it. He's quite devastated by the reception, he cried ^^. I shouldn't laugh cause I know the pain. He's convinced that there will be no DA 4.
Should I lie to him to try cheer him up ?

"They" would be the head of studio trying to score brownie points with EA management for saving millions of dollars staying with the in house engine. Probably increasing his incentives too. I don't blame those decisions on all the employees. You'd be surprised how common this is in organizations.
Sure thing bud, whatever you say. Its never the developers fault, always the CEO or the publisher

I am the very model of a scientist Salarian... :(
Dude... :( It's more heartbreaking on the Citadel DLC too

Had too be me.....somebody else might've gotten it wrong ;(

Man i loved mass effect 3. And that game was basically permenant crunch time and ea only gave them like 18 months or something stupid and they still made a great game. 4-5 years of anthem and this is it? Hmmmmm

in the OP it says the Metacritic is 67 but when I click on it, it's 63

Takes ages to update

I can understand review considerations on tech issues definitely, but the fact it's getting crucified for content is hilarious when you consider other titles in the genre like Destiny which was pitiful when it came to both decent content and decent lore. Like, holy shit this game has lore coming out of the wazoo and it's so fucking nice to have.

At the end of the day though, every game ever is going to get played by someone and someone is going to enioy it. It doesn't stop criticism of others and it doesn't stop enjoyment of others. There will be acidic hot takes on all sides of this virtual battlefield but I do hope people like myself who are enjoying the game do continue to enjoy it. I certainly am aware of issues and am not putting my head in the sand on them, but I also am having a fucking fantastic time playing the game.

I mean, where else can I experience these moment-to-moment gameplay designs?

Yeah. Shorter campaign, but raid, PVP, more strikes, more total content. Also why is Anthem the only game that gets judged against 4 year old versions of games and not Destiny as it exists to be bought right now.

Very good point. Anthem is competing with Destiny 2 as of now, and not years ago.

Out of curiosity, how is other people disliking the game preventing you from enjoying it?
If you don't mind the lack of content and variety and AI and depth of combat, aside from technical and design flaws, and you bought the game, nothing in this universe prevents you from enjoying it until the end of time (or until EA switches off the servers eventually at least).

Um Destiny has since day 1 had a ton of lore. Its story is shit but theres no way in hell this game has more lore than destiny which had an entire app with lore and stories on it. Also I really dont get why people think criticism means you can't enjoy the game.

Yeah. Shorter campaign, but raid, PVP, more strikes, more total content. Also why is Anthem the only game that gets judged against 4 year old versions of games and not Destiny as it exists to be bought right now.
Exactly. We compare this to games that have been updated to this point not how they were 5 years ago. The fact they werent watching these games evolve and change and thought it would be acceptable to launch this game like this because the others launched with problems is flat out disgusting from a developer.

Destiny came out in 2014 on last generation consoles and was amongst the first in this new age of games as service loot shooters. The year is currently 2019 and people expect more.

yikes, it has become a meme generator
When that happened to MEA (it became a joke/meme generator) it was all over. Very hard to recover at that point.

Anthem is very close to that point, the only question is if the different genre, hype and brute force marketing can make it a success in spite of those things.

Only reason the D1 campaign was shorter was cause you dont' spend 2-3 hours of it in loading screens.

Imagine if D1 only had 3 strikes and one of them doubled up with the last story mission.

D1 also had more than 1 biome.

These guys have less content than a game from 2014 on top of the technical issues.

TBH Anthem's flying actually looks kinda slow compared to Warframe's Archwings, which also basically give you the same sort of flying and underwater gameplay (albeit not the latter on the open-world maps). I mean, granted, Archwings are kinda contentious gameplay-wise, but being able to zoom around the Plains of Eidolon and Orb Valis at supersonic speeds is thrilling and, on PC at least, navigating tight corridors at top speed makes you feel like a fucking badass.

But like others have said, Anthem's starting content is fucking pitiful and people expect more from a new release of this sort of game. The fact that this is being compared to vanilla Destiny/D2, for example, speaks volumes of how badly Bioware failed to clear the bar.

Anyone remember the good ol days where looking forward to Bioware games were part of the experience? Before everything had to be online and when single player campaigns were the norm?

I think that's a bit unfair - Destiny has had the chance to grow and evolve.

However, Bungie believed in Destiny, so you knew it could grow and evolve. Anthem deserves a chance to get much better, but I don't know if EA will give them that opportunity if the game doesn't come hot out of the gate.
Bioware had access to all of the lessons learned by 5 years of Destiny's successes and failures, not to mention The Division's rocky growth.

Well, their next game up is a series where EA always (always) under-budgets them.

So they may get to do that at least.
EA never putting dat respek on Dragon Age's name. Inquisition is Bioware's best selling title ever and won overall GOTY, yet the series gets treated like it's still coming off 2(which had a lot of EA meddling lowering it's quality).

That's a fair perspective on systems, etc., but not on content, I think.

But again, both D1 and D2 were far more feature complete at their respective launches.

I basically agree, just trying to be judicious.

Both Destiny games have a significant amount of lore. Destiny 2 Forsaken is best the franchise has been lore wise. And both Destiny games, even at their poorer states, have considerably more endgame content than Anthem.

Seems like forever+ when Bioware made Mass Effect 3. I loved so many Bioware games back in the day. Now- I did really, really love Dragon's Age inquisition though.

Still upset with EA/Bioware that they abandoned SP game but I still want them to persevere. I'm not buying the game right now but I'll get it on a really good sale later after lots of fixes and free content. I know I enjoyed SW:BF2 after just snagging it from recent sales. I got nothing to gain hopping in early

Well I dont operate a billion dollar game corp so that's why I thought your statement was stupid lol. Then again it came off as an attempt at a personal attack and well...oh well lol

But if a corporation has already invested that much time and money then it sounds like it would be in their best interest to goto market with their best possible effort. Especially since this is supposed to be a franchise(and possibly bioware's saving grace). Throwing something out in this state though? I'm glad I'm not in their shoes

The games just not done. But this is what consumers accept

This is what consumers accept. The game is shit, barely works, but DLC is free so cool.

But hey, don't you dare to criticize the game, what's that? negativity? get out of here.

And this is not even your average consumer, it's an actual streamer, EA game changer.

I am seriously astounded by this big disaster that a huge studio with tremendous financial backing could produce after 7+ years of various forms of development.

I never in my wildest dreams would expect that Mass Effect Andromeda, a game that literally killed a huge franchise from previous generation, would be rated a better game than this.

I seriously doubt that Anthem always was a loot shooter chasing the Destiny money. I have no idea how they would ever call it the Bob Dylan of games when it clearly on a conceptual level was just copying Destiny and its siblings.

Bioware will be fine, I'm sure EA knows what went wrong and are going to fix it. I mean, with DICE, it's their last legacy studio, no chance in hell anything bad happen to Bioware.
DA 4 will have all the care it needs to make it a tremendous comeback for the studio :)

BioWare will not be gutted and Dragon Age 4 is most likely still coming. The concerns about the future of BioWare are misplaced, in my opinion.

I like the game, to be honest. Other people don't and that's OK. The tweet you quoted hardly justifies your response though in my opinion. Just as it's fine to dislike the game, it's cool for those of us who do like it.

I didn't say at all that people can't voice their opinions or criticise the game, nor did I say by there being negative opinions it is affecting my enjoyment. I just said I hope those who are enjoying it like me do enjoy it, flaws and all.

And I definitely will still be playing this game in a few weeks time because content is there in a number of ways, be it end game GM running or running different builds. I love that my Colossus can be a variety of styles but I also have access to the other javelins if I want to try a different playstyle.

Yes I actually do regret saying Destiny, you are all right there my bad. Though I would argue even both had similar origin stories with troubled launches lacking justification for their purchases due to disappointing content, attitudes by Bungie with things like the real currency etc etc.

Still, you are all right in that we are comparing Destiny 2 2019 to Anthem 2019. And Destiny 2 does indeed have the more content to offer. I hope that BioWare can continue to build this world because it is a fabulous one full of great designs and gameplay challenges. I love the combo system, and I love that my Javelin is the tool I am using and my guns are simply just stat boosts and different ways of shooting things. The flair comes from my Javelins abilities rather then a gun like Destiny or other looter shooters, albeit they mainly all have skills too.

I was more in refering to these kind of comments that are just unabashed negativity for the sake of negativity.

This is what consumers accept. The game is shit, barely works, but DLC is free so cool.

But hey, don't you dare to criticize the game, what's that? negativity? get out of here.

The game is not "shit" and while yes is experiencing technical difficulties even with the release day patch it does not mean consumers are accepting a bad product and they should be ashamed of themselves. And just straight up wiping away any positive criticism because it isn't negative and therefore not bandwagoning the hate.
