Some of the things you read makes you really question the design direction and playtesting.
I mean come on.. in a looter shooter..

Amount of loading screens is awful but it is fair to point out here that going into and out of the Forge is almost instant on PC compared to the demo. 1-2 secs max.

You talk like you can change how you look in destiny, what game are you playing? There is no transmog in destiny and you are stuck with the shitty visual that the gear you need has. In anthem you can change material, paint and vynil and you won't ever find someone who looks like you, yes we need more 3d geometry diversity and they need to implement them quickly, but just right now it's infinitely better than destiny.
You talk about changing load outs while its just weapons slots, it's not like you armor slots that change your playstyle expect one.
You have 3 specialisation choices and thats it, you can't mix match any talents or create builds in destiny.

You probably don't even have seen a masterwork/legendary piece if you think they are just numbers.
Yes, you can change how you look in Destiny, what absurdity are you typing?

There's no excuse for using terms like SJW or supporting a white person using the n-word in the way PDP did.

We're trying to build a community that stands against these things, I thought?

This is not about "difference of opinion".
This topic is about anthem reviews.

Your post is supporting a YouTuber who posts SJW labeled videos. There is no conversation to be had.
Actually, my post is defending someone who chose to post an Anthem review in the Anthem review topic and got jumped on by people who aren't 100% on board with the reviewer's politics.

And since when is SJW a term that we've stopped embracing? I'd still gladly identify as an SJW, since the term itself doesn't read as derisive and ends up coming off as empowering (we are, after all, people who fight for social justice).

Listening to that SkillUp review has solidified a lot of thoughts I have since the start of the game, mainly how stitched together all the gameplay systems are. I came to the conclusion that this game cannot be salvageable. I mean, it can, but it would mean such a complete overhaul of every single thing in the game right now that would essentially be a new game, and I doubt EA is going to let Bioware do it.

The visual identity of Destiny is so important. Each enemy race is so visually distinct and recognizable. (Except Scorn cause they are basically Zombie Fallen) I can't tell you what the enemy races look like in Anthem after watching hours of gameplay.
Agreed, some of my fave things about Destiny enemies, is how their gaze will follow a grenade you throw. How Vex will hunker down to protect their crit spot, or how fallen will cheer and celebrate when they kill you. There may only really be 4-5 different types of of enemies, but they've been individually crafted and are memorable. I've yet to experience that with the enemies of Anthem.

His point about this game being so poor after 6 years and thus 6 weeks of new events and updates will hardly do anything to fix the foundational problems was salient. This game had so much potential. I hope we get a book on what went wrong here.

Dev probably got rebooted a couple of times to say the least. That and BioWare is pretty much lost.

i sometimes really feel like im playing a different game. i agree that there is issues and no way in hell i would rate this game a 9 or 10 (probably a 7.5 just for the combat alone. higher if they are able to fix most of the issues such as frame rate optimization, load screens and a UI overhaul). I'm really loving the combat mechanics and really wished destiny went this route in regards to special abilities and ults.
i know its bad practice for having to wait for updates to make a game better but it seems like thats the age we live in (with respect to loot games)

What it is is that a message showed that when you reached the sentinel loyalty level 2, your Vault would have increased capacity.

What it tells me is that to this point in the game, they didnt know how the actual fucking progression worked, so they gave everyone the maximum amount of vault space and forgot to take out the texts that told you you were improving them.

Cool, so we're at unprovoked insults.

Worth noting that I also disagree with many of SkillUp's opinions, so why do you feel the need to be so hostile? Because I'm willing to watch his review of a game when it's posted in that game's review thread?

The load times are not the whole issue, it's the existence of the loading screens and the frequency of said existence. The load times are a bit of a red herring in this regard.
Anyone that expect a game to have zero loading isn't being realistic. The loading times and joining party loading are the big issues. Every game has loading I mean unless you consider static elevator scenes not loading or super long empty corridors not loading.

I fundamentally disagree with this concept, just because something is normal if that normal is obviously fucked it shouldn't be given a free pass or any pass at all. Consumers should be demanding more from these massive companies than Minimum Viable Products chucked out the door unceremoniously a year before it's even kinda ready.

The endgame of Forsaken was very very good, but it did take some consistent weeks of grinding old-ish content in the midway point. Not sure if that's expedited or not nowadays. It will certainly fill your fix. The raid was impeccable too if that's your thing.

Forsaken is really good, skip the season pass though it's a slog.

Thanks both. Was trying to decide whether to bother with the season pass or not. But it's a big ask when Forsaken costs £17.99 and with the season pass it costs £39.99, and that's on sale, it's very expensive.

I suppose I could always get it at a later date if I'm still playing once I've played all the Forsaken content.

oh i agree. just feels like thats where the industry is going. look at destiny 1,2 ; division.

just wished games came feature complete and major expansions acted more as ways to revitalize the game and not fix the game.

I think the big failing is they are static loading screens of old screenshots with a graphical treatment. They could have been really cool and softened the pain of their length and frequency.

No you can't, the gear you use will be what you see on the character, you can't transmog the visual.

There are lots of gear sets to choose from with randomized perks so you can really build out your guardian how you want.

Want fast handcannon reloads and ready speed? You can find a piece of gear that does that.

Regarding looks you can shader every single piece of gear seperately.

My guardian looks different than my friends guardian.

Not to mention the exotics really look way different.

Have you even played destiny 2?

My issues aren't so much the time, long loading screens are nothing new, it's the amount of them that kills all momentum. Also agree with the static loading screens with a boring screenshot making it feel 10x longer and therefore 10x worse.

Yes i have completed every non forsaken raids on prestige and no, you're missing the point, you can't change your visual armor on destiny, if you want that piece of shoulders with full resilience you have to wear that crap on your character, you can only shade color so much. Maybe you don't know what transmog means, i meant wearing a piece while looking like you wear another and still getting the stats benefits, that what you can do in 99% of MMOs right now and anthem has a kinda similar system, it chooses to separate visual and power.

What it says to me personally is that they were working on having more meaningful unlocks tied to rep like increased inventory space relatively recently but ran out of time or encountered an issue with the code or engine that they couldn't resolve in time. Generally, this would be a fairly simple thing to design and implement so I'm guessing it was the latter which kind of speaks to how tight the time budget was that relatively minor things had to be back burner to get the game in a shippable state.

Of course, this is all guessing though I would be willing to bet I'm hitting in the right ballpark. Though I'm also an idiot so... take anything I say with the Dead Sea's worth of salt.

So out of curiosity I went to watch one of the videos from the thumbnails posted.

In the video SkillUp calls himself a "100% left wing SJW cuck, come at me alt-righters" so yes he's using the bad words but he identifies as such so... ?
And they're Australians, they mock Trump and do shitty impression of him so I guess that explains the other thumbnails.

I do remember he was pretty shitty about the Gilette ad, and he does stand by the fact that PdP didn't share white supremacy videos on purpose and just liked an anime review or something.

So those are things you are entirely free to disagree with. I don't agree with him at all on those stances but that doesn't mean I have to dismiss him entirely as a reviewer because on some topic he doesn't align with me. He has never tolerated harassment of any kind as far as i know. And I did see him take good stances multiple times about other topics.

Regardless, he's a great reviewer. And he's not "gamergate". There isn't anything political in his reviews.

Man, stuff like that means the game would be broken at a fundamental level and essentially unplayable for me. Diablo 3 would've been drastically less enjoyable if it e.g. took a single second of loading to open the inventory.

Anything in the magnitudes of minutes is legit insane.

All the previous DLC from base game is, but there is another Season Pass for the Forsaken DLC which costs £29.99 or is currently on sale for £19.99 - on top for the cost of buying Forsaken itself.

destiny%202%20black.jpeg

I'd say that content has been worth it for me. The raid is interesting the forges are fun trying to get the weapon builds you want Ect. Can't wait for season of the drifter to start.

I never said that; I said it's the frequency of the loading and their opting to not mask it that's the issue. I'd reckon most would stop complaining if we can have some manner of inventory management during the load screen. Instead, it's just a screen--not a faux hallway, not ships flying, nothing--just a screen. And given the frequency, it's bad design.

Keep in mind, I say this after playing about 25, 30 hours. The load frequency absolutely negatively impacts the game and I don't think there's been a credible testament otherwise.

The problem is the load screens, not the design. It's also lacking a testing area, something that Monster Hunter: World and Warframe both have. In those games, that is basically the same process for changing your loadout.

This is not bad game design. I'm tired of people saying it is just because Destiny and Diablo let you change your loadout on the fly.

I agree, the load screen to the Forge is a pain in the ass and needs to be eliminated or reduced to the point of invisibility, if possible. But not being able to change weapons, gear, etc. while on a mission isn't bad just because you can't do a thing you want to do.

Improving load times and adding a practice range would fix this. I hope they do both!

The SkillUp review is fantastic as usual, probably the best review channel on YouTube right now.

Didn't realise until just now that video is content is banned on Era, ok... Is there a list we can checked for banned content?
I believe that's a setting the uploader uses to restrict embedding on other sites. If I include a YT vid here then find it's not playing, I just edit the post and leave the link.

I dont think hes an altright guy, but I do think hes becoming a gamer gate guy because of his audiance. There so too many examples of shit to count where hes been leaning towards that audiance and while I dont fully know his real views on these things I do think hes rather comfortable with the audiance hes grown and wants to keep going in that direction

I did have to unfollow after fucking this though

Mod Edit: Content removed. We do not provide a platform for Laymen Gaming on the forum.

What the fuck did that have to with gaming other than preaching to that audiance

And yeah it's his brother but it's their shared channel

Yes i have completed every non forsaken raids on prestige and no, you're missing the point, you can't change your visual armor on destiny, if you want that piece of shoulders with full resilience you have to wear that crap on your character, you can only shade color so much. Maybe you don't know what transmog means, i meant wearing a piece while looking like you wear another and still getting the stats benefits, that what you can do in 99% of MMOs right now and anthem has a kinda similar system, it chooses to separate visual and power.

But you can still customize your look. You may not have transmog but you can design a look for your guardian.

If you plane to raid it might be worth the pass but the "black armory" stuff is an unfun slog. Forsaken in great and you will prob get your full before you even get to the black armory stuff (starts at 600 but really should be 630 to start it).

Yup, I noticed this a while ago. The way they throw around "triggered" like it's a huge joke, the way they use SJW in the pejorative, unironically, as well as where they landed on some major issues (PDP).

I honestly really enjoyed their reviews but don't want to give them the audience, so fuck them. There are still plenty of good critics out there.

This is not bad game design. I'm tired of people saying it is just because Destiny and Diablo let you change your loadout on the fly.
The UI to do these things is 100% bad design. UI is atrocious.

And people keep saying this game is more akin to Diablo than Destiny when the comparison was brought up. Fans and the developers themselves keep namedropping Diablo, so either specify exactly what they mean by that, or don't do it at all. The game is a loot game. It belongs to a genre, and while differentiation and innovation will be supported, just being different by itself doesn't immediately excuse some bad decisions. But really, people keep mentioning Diablo while propping up this game and probably should stop then, including devs. It's nothing like Diablo. The loot is not cosmetic, you can't equip on the fly, bosses apparently have no loot tables, it's not a set driven game, there is not as much variety and certainly there aren't unique modifiers to items to compare it. Loot rarity is gated by levels as well (according to GB) unlike Diablo where there are low level leendaries and set pieces.

So, OK, it's nothing like Diablo so people and developers should stop saying it. But it's also a rather poor, or content lacking example of a looter compared to the staples in the genre.
