Not at all. I'm looking forward to next gen as well but there are so many games still coming out that are worth playing. The last month or so alone there's been Outer Worlds, Disco Elysium, Death Stranding, Jedi Fallen Order and more. Then we've still got the heavy hitters next year like TLOU Part 2 and Cyberpunk. Still some life left in this gen before it's done with IMO.

I'm tempted to not buy Cyberpunk, FFVIIR etc until the PS5 comes out, no point in double dipping for a few months wait for a superior version.

It's not like what we'll be getting next-gen is going to be dramatically different.

This. In some ways it's going to be worse at first thanks to launch games being somewhat gimmicky and underwhelming compared to late last gen games and cross gen releases. To put it another way, when talking about how great the PS4 was, people don't really wind up talking about how memorable Killzone: Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son were. The narrative is more about later titles like Bloodborne, Titanfall 2, The Witcher 3, etc.

The one big reason I'm tempted to jump into next gen early is because it'll probably be the best time to get as much trade value out of my PS4 and because the PS5 will have BC. Other than that though there are a LOT of games I still need to play, on PS4 alone.

I've never felt this at all. Especially not on PC where everything just generally runs and looks so much better than on consoles. If anything the best games of a generation come out near the end. I probably have enough backlogged games on PC, PS4 and Switch to last me half of next-gen if I wanted to. I'm not seeing why I should be tired of all these games at the moment.

Well, I might be burned out on gaming for good.
I have been an avid player for 20 years now. I'm turning 30 next month.
It feels like I still get hyped but when actually playing I get bored extremely fast and feel like I'm wasting my time.
Outer Worlds was the exception, but nothing else this year was able to hold my attention longer than a couple of hours.

I got Fallen Order and it feels so formulaic after 5 hours. When you have been gaming for a while you see the same systems over and over again, with slight tweaks. I mean the game looks fantastic but I'm already tired of wall running at designated spots etc.
That's just an example, I got nothing against the game.
Shooters are still the same old shooters at the core etc.

I doesn't help I'm a Programmer. I understand how games/applications are made. That really took the magic away for me.
Games are based on logic, the illusion of "dynamic games" kinda falls flat. Some hide it better than others but still.

I think I should learn to only go for those exceptions such as Outer Worlds to have an enjoyable experience.

I finished Alpha Protocol, released in 2010, last week so no, I'm not tired of current-gen. In fact, they could delay next-gen and stop to release new games until 2023 and I would still be fine.

How was it? I always wanted to give it a try because I hear the story and decision making are very good.
It just looks mega janky.

Last game I finished was Puppeteer, currently playing Breath of Fire IV. I want to play great games, not technological showcases. Couldn't care less about which gen and how far into a console's cycle we are.

Killzone Shadow Fall was not better than The Last of Us or Ni no Kuni, to list some 2013 games separated by console generation.

I've been burnt out for a while now, and my list of completed games keeps halving each year, but it hasn't really been anything to do with fatigue of this generation.

In fact, I'm worried that the transition to a new generation will just make it even harder for me to get back in.

No

If anything I'm playing more now than previous gens.

Mainly thanks to not limiting myself to one platform anymore.

Playstation+Nintendo+PC combo ftw ;p

I like that games are getting shinier and shinier but it's not a gamechanger for me. I probably have a dozen games from 2019 I'm really looking forward to playing but haven't had time and I've already played the same quantity. Gaming is great right now.

Personally no. I wouldn't have even minded if this gen last an extra year after next year. PS4 has been on a roll the last 4 years.

I'm tired of the visuals, performance issues, just the overall look and feel of the generation I guess.

This happens to me every Gen late in the cycle. I need like a refresh with new games, new potential, better visuals, options etc.

Anyone else?

While not nearly as bad as last gen--mainly due to the Switch--this is setting in for me as well.

Leakers and devs have been talking all that good shit about what the new consoles can do. I want to see what they have.

Pretty much yeah, I'm sick of all the technical shortcomings nowadays and unfortunately most games that came out this year have been super dissapointing for me.

I can't even fill a top 5 right now and I played pretty much every big and semi-big game.

Just like near the end of last gen, everything is starting to feel too "same-y". Hallway simulator games and others that try to look pretty, but somehow the artstyle let's it all down. Stuff like Death Stranding or RDR2 almost seem like a mixed bag.

I want games that can make better use of SSDs and texture streaming so pop-in isn't as bad, and have more "alive" feeling worlds.

I really enjoyed the game. The mini-games are awful and the gameplay is bad, but it's an excellent RPG. I played it in easy and I recommend to play it this way, which allow to enjoy the story of the game and to not be disturbed by the gameplay.

Not at all. Besides that I mostly play on PC, where console generations have a diminished impact, recent AAA releases are a minority of what I play. I have plenty to keep me busy.

No. I'm constantly playing catch-up, and I'm more annoyed than anything else when a new console generation comes out. I don't really care about games' graphics, except for things like the font being big enough to read (my biggest issue this generation: why is the font in all my new games so tiny?).

I've never been burnt out in 26 years of playing video games.

They just don't get old to me. Part of that is because I play quite a few genres and enjoy "AAA", indie, and retro games alike.

I was kind of feeling this way as well, but then I just realized it's been a slow year for me. There haven't been many new games I've been interested in this year, but I've been looking forward to Jedi Fallen Order for a while and now that it's out I feel that old excitement back. :)

That and there are a lot of really cool looking games coming next year that I'm really excited for. I think it's just been a slow year.

Generally yes. I bought three games this year, two of those are exclusives.

I distrust 3rd party titles for the very reason the OP mentioned. Badly performing, ill-designed, micro-transaction trash has prematurely cut my enjoyment of games to a large degree.

Thank fuck for Sony 1st party.

Hardly. I'm picking up RDR2 on Steam next month and will be doing the same with Doom, Cyberpunk, Death Stranding, and (hopefully) Elden Ring next year. I'll likely also pick up TLoU2 on PS4. Gonna be an amazing year for gaming experiences.

Yes I'm tired of how slow my PS4 feels.

That's why I play almost exclusively on Switch.

Not sure what all this talk about graphics is though. They still look absolutely fine to me.

There is honestly no known game on the horizon that I'm especially excited about and it's a bit of a weird feeling.

Nope, I'm never been as into gaming as I am right now.

I'm really excited for next gen but I'm eager to clear as much as my backlog as possible before then.

Nope. Loving gaming as much as ever and I'm not that fussed about graphics, performance etc. as I get older. I'm in no hurry to move on to a new generation.

Honestly, I was more burnt-out with this generation when it launched. It was just the same-old, but slightly prettier. Now that the generation is coming into its own, finally I might add, it's more interesting than ever. Games arrive that would be flat-out impossible on older consoles, not just in visuals, but in features and gameplay, too. I could easily go 2-3 more years of this before the usual 5-year console tax arrives.

And yes, the Switch is a big part of why I feel like this. It's new, it did something the previous generation could not. It's great to just pick it up from the dock and go a few hours of something if I don't feel like committing to playing on the TV.

No, but I am trying to hold off on buying games with performance issues until I can play them on next gen, and hopefully the BC will take advantage of the extra power.

Am having my best time in gaming with RDR2.
A game that puts any other game to shame. It will take years for some to reach this product, If any.

Honestly, there are so many games I want to play our right now and so little time with the Holidays and whatnot. I'm leaving some games until their inevitable next gen debut/remaster because I just don't have the bandwidth.

So no, I guess I'm not really there (That said, I'm almost all just in on PC and Switch right now, so perhaps that means I'm not really feeling "next gen" fatigue).

Not really.

I understand next gen is going to be a huge jump, but I am definitely squeezing juice out of my ps4 and it's ok.

But yeah, I am ready for next gen when it comes. Always excited for what new ip these Devs come up with.
Really want to see what rocksteady does.

OP your idea of ''gaming'' sounds like a confined hell. There's so much more to gaming than that...

May I ask, what's your top 10 favorite games this gen?

No.

But I've still got God of War, Death Stranding & Shadow of the Collossus to play. Plus (almost) daily GT Sport gaming time, Days Gone challenges, and a few PS+/Indie games.

Last of Us 2 will be my last purchase this gen. Even then I may wait to play on PS5. Certainly won't play Cyberpunk on current gen.

After completing god of war, I'm quite reinvigorated with gaming.
They really give you something tv+film just can't.

Merrill what consoles do you own and what we're the last several games you played?

Actually the best looking and even the best games in egenral are coming in these last months. But if you are fed up, just wait for next-gen and play thsoe games on it if they get patched.

i'm fucking overloaded with games I'm excited to play right now lol

currently sore from my first session of Pistol Whip (which I didn't stretch for yet played for hours and am actively holding back from playing more of right now), so I'm beasting through Death Stranding and excited to start Fallen Order, Stormland, Shenmue III, Disco Elysium, and Last Labyrinth.

in the meantime friends often wanna play Tekken 7 and Apex, multiplayer staples which are still extremely fun to us

a decent portion of the games I'm excited about right now are VR, which is going to continue to be generally fresher than traditional gaming despite new console hardware and PC GPU advancements

yes and no. I don't feel like playing as much anymore, mostly because there is SO MUCH good tv and movies I feel like I'm missing out so much on that side if I game too much.

I am currently playing Jedi Fallen Order, loving it. Still progressing in Gears 5, Borderlands 3, and The Outer Worlds although only play a few hours of one of those a week. Haven't even touched COD Modern Warfare campaign but I am really enjoying MP.

Nov/Dec/Jan should be a good time to close out those games and pickup some new ones. I am definitely excited to see the small quality of life stuff next gen can bring, like shorter load times, more 60 FPS games, and hopefully faster installs. I get a lot of that on my PC already and its been more and more noticable how better things are on PC in the last year or two, hopefully that gap narrows again soon.

I have no desire to fire up my ps4 pro because I know it will need a firmware update (30 min) and every game will have massive updates (1+ hours) that I have no time for. The interface itself is miserable as well.

Switch is fine though.
