Anyone else into dolls?

I was considering posting this in FigureERA but I read the last page and it doesn't really seem to be remotely the same thing.

So what kind of dolls? For me, fashion dolls. Barbie, for starters. But you could also talk about the high end dolls made by Integrity.

So you could say that the dolls are just there to be displayed, but I mostly am interested in them artistically. Like, curating a scene, bringing the doll to life, and photographing it like a fashion style shot. That sort of thing appeals to me highly and the great thing is how customizable they are. Don't like how long this ones bangs are? Snip em! Don't like the clothes? Toss em for a different pair. You can build a nice setting using different curated items to really bring the dolls to life and make some really cute artsy fartsy photos.

A couple of samples of what I'm talking about.

And sometimes they just liven up a room or an office desk.

Anyone else? :3

I do wish to buy those incredibly detailed Hot Toys figures.
Particularly the Iron Man one
I only own one, Kylo Ren from the Force Awakens release window because I was extremely hyped at the time. It's quite nice. I'd like more(*cough* Phasma) but they are too pricey for me to collect at this point in time.

Can’t say that I do. I like having legos set up on the shelf, not sure if that’s comparable though.

When I was a kid I pit my Barbie dolls against each other in a Game of Thrones style drama that included all my dinosaur and zoid toys to use as tools of war. So many backstabbers and imaginary bloodshed, one girl lost her head after being hung from the ceiling fan and spinning it around lol. My parents stopped buying them for me after that.

I didn't have any friends who actually used their Barbie dolls for dress up (Maybe me and my friends were weird though), so it's nice to see people actually posing them for once x)

Years ago when I first watched Rozen Maiden and it was a big trend and fandom, I wanted to get into this because of it. And I looked into to Dollfies. Particularly Souseiseki, who was my favourite character. They were all so expensive, though. And I was a poor college student.

And even now it seems like a very expensive hobby that I can't seem to justify spending money into, even though I would like to. I only even very occasionally spend money on anime figurines, much less several hundred dollar dolls. I feel very priced out of this hobby, and there are so many other things I could be doing with my money. I do have an interest, just not the kind of interest that I've spent money on something like Dollfie. I really do wish I had the money to get into Dollfie's and other similar dolls, though. If only I weren't spending so much money collecting Steam games I may never play.

Here's an example of the kind I'm interest in:

Wohoo! DollEra thread! I'm more of a 1/3 scale collector like Dollfies and Smart Dolls.

Some random pics to generate interest!

Neat. I'm not into anime or cartoony style dolls (Bratz, Monster High, Ever After High, anime) but those are some impressive designs. I REALLY like the outfits!

Thats pretty cool. Seems like Barbie has come a long way since the stuff my sisters had growing up

I don't collect dolls but I do follow the work of Lutsenko Dolls.https://www.instagram.com/lutsenko_dolls/?hl=en
I most enjoy watching their process of making the dolls.
Whoa those really impressive

I collect figures and I have three dolls. Two Chucky dolls and one Annabelle from, you guessed it the Annabelle movie!

I even brought her to the movies with me, it was fun freaking out a couple of the guys and girls that were there LOL. My wife was laughing and just shaking her head at me.

Action figures are also dolls, as much as guys collecting them and proudly displaying them in glass cases would perhaps dissagree. That includes your robots and Amiibo too.
I've seen some really nice well made traditional dolls I'd buy if I had the disposable income. Barbie, not at all.

I did look into ball jointed dolls once, but glad that I held out on it since I had no interest past that fist infatuation.

I personally do not agree that action figures are dolls but that's just me.

Sure.

I own 5 Hot Toys figures so far. I just got the HT Roadworn Thor (from Ragnarok) right before Christmas.

No but i collected vintage Star Wars for a while. Because i didn't get much as a kid. But i sold everything since it's a bottomless pit.

Let's all realize that collecting action figures is just collecting little dolls.

My grandmother collected dolls her entire life. She had thousands of them. 3 upstairs rooms and the entire basement were covered in dolls from floor to ceiling. Her house looked like a doll museum. These were old timey dolls with the big dresses and what not.

When my grandma died, it was a real bitch trying to get rid if all those dolls. Collectors descended on the ads from hundreds of miles away but they all wanted to snipe valuable single dolls or sets for pennies on the dollar. I honestly don’t remember what even happened to them all. It took months to finally get rid of them.

It made me really consider what the fate of my many collections will be after I die. I’m the only one that really cares about them lol!

A few years back, I attended a Dollphie fandom meeting.

I will not attend another. The women who were a little too adimate about admiring their "children" were a bit much to digest.

I was tempted to post some superfluous gif but you know what? Enjoy what you enjoy. Live your truth. <3

It's 2018. Love what you love, and fuck anyone that wants to classify and reduce that shit to minimilizations.

I've been interested in looking at pictures of dolfies for a while, but they're so hard to maintain and so expensive that I couldn't possibly get one.

I got 2 $500 dolls. They are a big deal in Japan. There is a store for them near the station for Akihabara.

I have a bit of a collection of Equestria Girls Minis. I immediately liked their "chibi" style, so I couldn't resist buying a few (here's a random terrible photo).

I have little else, mostly figures from various games' CEs. Better not getting into Barbies and the likes too, I already get enough of a side eye when people see what I have :p

I have 2 Smart Dolls/BJDs, more out of admiration for the craft/Danny Choo than the actual culture behind it. I'm just trying to personalise mine to look like a Pokemon trainer and nothing more, because everything about that hobby is pricey as hell!
I also used to have a bunch of Hot Toys, but again, pricey. Sold a bunch, and they're worth investing in.

Here's my Smart Doll that I made in Danny Choo's workshop.

I do however adore some of the more ornate BJDs because the faces with make up/eyelashes and everything else look stunning.

And there are some custom ones by people like Michael Zajkov for instance which are freaking stunning. Entirely made from scratch.

When I was younger, I had a few dolls mostly porcelain but others as well but honestly outside of any porcelain dolls still at my parents home, I currently only own one doll which is a Ball Jointed Doll from a company called Dream of Doll.

Sadly, that company seems to be no longer in business even though there were several dolls I was interested in from them, despite the price.

Here is a picture of her for those curious

You should watch the toys netflix show.
The gi joe makers said that they came up with the term action figure for their soldier dolls to make them more appealing to boys.

I personally never was into dolls or figurines but they seem to be heavily intertwined with gaming culture in japan. In akihabara every gameshop has a doll/figurine section with pretty amazing stuff.
