Maybe when it gets on phones but until then it has a long way to go. PUBG has been obliterated at this point though.

I truly hate when I hear people say this. What was even more stupid was hearing people from IGN on podcasts saying that BR was a saturated market prior to 2018 E3. Like tell me more than 3 BR games console players could play prior to 2018 E3. Basura.

the "if you're not first you're last" mentality around BR games is tedious. there's clearly more than enough space for them to succeed

God damn, to go from the talk surrounding the leaks and all the negativity to now, I'm not sure the last time I've seen such a drastic turnaround in public opinion. It is well deserved though, Respawn deserve to finally achieve such a degree of success.

I fucking hate Battle Royale and think it's the worst thing to happen to shooters in history.
But this game... for a BR it's pretty ok. I'd much rather play something else but following my friend group into this game has been far less painful than PUBG and Fortnite.

Fantastic numbers, but I can't say I'm surprised. I must have argued with a half dozen people on this forum who thought the Battle Royale market was saturated, it's nice to be vindicated on that front. There were so many obvious flaws with all three major players, it's no surprise a game that does a better job can make serious headway. Whether it ultimately outdoes Fortnite is hard to know, I think it almost certainly will amongst the core crowd, if not the casual crowd. The best thing though is that Epic finally have some competition. Epic can rightly be praised for how they handle Fortnite as a live service but I don't think they've actually done a very good job of making the core game better, and I think they've allowed the games USP (building) to dominate the gameplay to an extent which makes the game hugely inaccessible and, for a lot of people, deeply off putting.

You know, in retrospect it was obvious that the next game to take the crown would come out of nowhere, and not be some hyped thing with a marketing roll out like Blackout or the BF thing.
PUBG was an early access spiritual successor to an H1Z1 mode and ARMA mod that had the name of the original modder in it because it was so geared toward that niche crowd.
Fortnite was practically an afterthought to explicitly chase trends and play around with UE4 development with a long suffering game that had practically died on launch.
Of course the next big game would be something out of nowhere from a developer whose projects have never seen the success they wanted.

Some of the bigger Fortnite guys are doing as good, if not better than they've been doing lately on Fortnite even. Like Courage JD, who has 20K watching him at the moment.
Exactly for me. I don't watch twitch that much ever. Mainly to look at gameplay of new released titles. But watching shroud was insane. I lost track of time yesterday watching him play. I'm trying to remember a time he didnt win a match last night without at least 10-15 kills in less than 15 min. it was that crazy
It wasn't for me either. Tried this weekend for a bit but never clicked at all. But I figure BR games just aren't for me. I'm happy for Respawn though.

Still think this shortterm hype is no indicatot of future succes. Let's wait and see what the first season does, hoe Respawn will update this game and how the community feels about the games issues and ptoblems post-hype.

Like a Pheonix rising from the ashes. Couldn't be happier for Respawn. They have had a rough go this generation, despite producing great games, I'm so happy they are finally receiving the recognition they deserve.
