the thing that made me try Apex was that I had always been somewhat interested in Fortnite but absolutely refused to play it because I just wanted to shoot people and not do the building part. and I hadn't been very interested in Pubg either because I didn't find the way it looks very appealing, like its intended to be more realistic which wasnt interesting to me

Apex was just exactly what I needed from top to bottom, inside and out. right place at the right time

Respawn are a top tier studio. With the launch of their Star Wars game later, they'll cement themselves as EA's best studio.

Best part of Apex is when you fire at a player, he doesn't transform into a fucking tower

Great game, and well deserved.

What is the appeal of Apex compared to other Battle Royales?
It comes from a team (Respawn Entertainment) who have the formula for making good feeling/satisfying first person shooters down to a fine art at this point.

It's mixed many of the most satisfying elements of the hero shooter genre with the battle royale genre, the result is kind of a best of both worlds scenario.

It's eliminated several of the most frustrating elements of the BR Genre (Perma-death, People dropping wherever instead of sticking together as a team), whilst also introducing QOL improvements that will probably be the standard from here on out (An in depth ping system, easy to use inventory system).

I'm just gonna congratulate them in every one of these threads. Also adding in new heroes and weapons in the next month is amazing. Thats the kind of pipeline that will keep the hype rolling for them.

May not reach the peak of fortnite numbers - 200 million? mainly because of not having a mobile version but that could change.

wonder what this means for Blackout

Sadly, I think Activision wasn't planning on "updating" Black Out properly besides balance tweaks and such (no new levels/guns/etc). Most likely they were going to have the next CoD game be the new "Black Out", which imo is a bad way to go.

Hopefully this convinces Activision to actually compete somewhat.

But... I like Apex more than Black Out so all good I guess.

I wouldn't say that's the only reason to be perfectly honest. The money backing this game is huge. The marketing push to pay top streamers to play it day of launch. The pedigree behind the game. There are a lot of factors that made it succeed.

Those are all great but it doesn't work if the thing you're propping up is no good. Everything else is secondary. At the end of the day the actual game itself has to be good for all that other stuff to work.

Isn't it amazing how much money a free product can make? Apex is proving that Fortnite wasn't a fluke. I'm both excited and scared by how the industry will react.

Blackout has already gotten new weapons and map additions with more planned soon. So yeah they've got plans to update and support the game for a minimum of three years. That said, it's slow and unless it goes free to play it will never get traction. I've played hundreds of hours in Blackout and it still has a place as the best "traditional" BR game out there (semi-realistic and smooth) but as long as it's pay gated it won't grow beyond COD fans.

Apex is creating NEW franchise fans. The importance of that can't be understated.

You guys I think this game is gonna be popular.

I know you jest, but I'd like to add that this game is pretty much everywhere in Twitch and YouTube right now.

All the big Twitch streamers and YouTubers are hooked on it and the overall sentiment is that they never felt like this with Fortnite.

Once EA rolls out the mass marketing push for the Battlepass and Events and mobile versions come out, popularity, word of mouth and media coverage, will be out of this world.

Can they even port the source engine to Switch or iOS/Android? And how the hell would you get the feel of the game w/ phone touch controls? Guess that hasn't stopped the other BR games from finding success on mobile...

They deserve this for the ping system alone. It belongs in every competitive team shooter from here on out.

And as somebody who hates using a mic, this was a godsend.

I just wish it had more of that Titanfall 1 flavor. I love Apex Legends so much, but the music leaves something to be desired. Why TiF2 and AL left behind Titanfall 1's space-country music vibe behind is beyond me. The music is comparatively so generic.

That's really my biggest gripe with this fantastic game. Everything else... the personality, the control, the gunplay, the BR mechanics. I can't go back to Blackout or Fortnite. They're too slow, and too simple.

Woah. Didn't see this coming at all.

Might actually add to that number soon then.

Concurrent player record for fortnite is 8.3 million, so this is already getting somewhat close.

Edit: apparently fortnite had 10 million players a few days ago. So not quiiite there yet lol.

Move to the left, Epic Games.

This is what you deserve for killing Paragon.

Rise up, Apex.

Another Paragon fan. I wish they would bring some form of Paragon back to fill out their store now that they have a lot of money and stuff. They could have just let the game stay alive without any updates pretty much how Blizzard treat Diablo 3.

good questions but I'm pretty sure they are already thinking of developing one if not already with another engine , maybe pared down for mobile.

It means its over for blackout, which has less to do with apex and more to do with blackout isn't putting out enough content to support it long term. One map addition isn't going to cut out with the competition.

And nothing about what I said was wrong. No titans and no wall running inherently makes the game lesser. Good thing the game is fantastic as is (but would be more awesome with titans and wall running)

Amazing job by Respawn. Game is deserving of the success. Can't wait to see the game grow and hope more accolades are to come. Easily one of the most fun games in the past year.

The pre launch negatively in these forums has hopefully taught a few people some lessons on judging books by their covers I hope?

Oh I absolutely agree with you. If the game were terrible it wouldn't be the success it is now. It's just that it's a culmination of all these factors. Great games get released suddenly and unexpectedly all the time, especially in the indie scene. It took the "perfect storm" for Apex to be the success it is.

That's impressive. I don't play this type of game, so I'm not personally interested. But I've watched a few videos and the game looks like pure quality in terms of design and characters/abilities. If I was into online shooters I'd definitely play this over anything else on the market. I loved the Titanfall 2 campaign, it's one of the best single player FPS campaigns ever. This looks like the MP equivalent of that and that's really the highest praise I can give a game I'm not interested in. Have fun with this!

They're working on a mobile version iirc. Was mentioned in EA's fiscal call a few days ago.

Blackout is dead on PC now from what I hear now right after Apex came out (was actually pretty populated before that), not sure about console versions. Wonder if Activision will swallow their pride and release it F2P before it's too late.

Oh yea I love Blackout. I use to play it every weekend with my friends. I'm aware of the winter update changing some things but I didn't know they were going to go beyond that. Props to Activision if they support it with proper new content for 3 years.

I know they've changed the original map a bit but are they planning on adding a new map to Blackout?

Nice. My phone probably can't run it but nice to hear. haha. Should increase their userbase even moreso.

My thoughts exactly.

I've hated BR up until now. Got first win last night and it was goooooood. Respawn deserves a huge hit more than any other developer I can think of.

They nailed the speed and action. For all the credit Fortnite gets for being faster than PUBG, it feels slow in comparison to this game where it feels like youre playing a frenzy BR game-- all the excitement of BR survival with the insane action that you expect out of a deathmatch game. This allows so many people to have genuine fun experiences, because even if you suck, you are at least doing some crazy things.
