Numbers are apparently from mid last year and possibly don't include Fortnite players.

7% is actually better than I expected, considering the quality of some of the free games surely attracted droves of people, especially GTA5.

Honestly, that's pretty high. I was expecting ~2-3%.

Think about it like mobile gaming and IAP. 7% would be INCREDIBLY high.

So out of 20.7m users only 3.5m have actually bought a game on EGS? Am i reading this right?

I did buy a couple games when they gave me £10 off vouchers.
Yeah I'd be very curious to hear how many of that 7% were making purchases subsidised by Epic (so at a loss), versus how many purchases were a net gain in revenue for Epic. I wonder if that info will come out in this case too.

God damn. So there may literally be millions of people on EGS who have 80+ games in their library who never gave them a cent. I know I am in that boat.

I'm kind of impressed.

When I first started reading it, I thought it was going to say 7% of users who claimed free games, actually played those free games.

That's why it's not sustainable not the 12% take vs 30%> it's because they're giving away the house. If they were smart and put all that money instead into actually developing their infrastructure they would be in a far better position right now

Amazing.

I've just hoarded the free games hoping it costs Timmy a bit. I'm just grabbing them through the website, no Epic launcher installed here. Maybe someday when I'm really old I'll dig into this hoard of free shit I got from uncle Timmy. If EGS is still around.

I don't think that's a hugely useful comparison, since free players on mobile games don't typically cost anywhere near the kinds of sums Epic will be paying for these free games.

It's actually not that bad. It would be interesting to know the stats of ERA members, I am not expecting those 7%.

The most interesting part is they acquired more unique payers without offering anything.

I've bought I think 4 games outright on EGS. Control, The Outer Worlds, Star Wars Squadrons(deep sale w/ coupon) and Phantom Brigade. But have like 137 games total from the free games.

bigger than expected, good for epic. Obviously theyre not making money right now (thats the point) but at this rate they have deep enough pockets to grab a lot more 7%s over the years.

My account was all screwed up with having multiple ones from Xbox etc... Was too lazy to look into it and even grab the free games lol.

They're NOTHING ALIKE.
Mobile games have a low number of users spending a TON of money, which only works because the user base of the mobile platforms are massive.
This is a store with a small userbase of which only a small number spend a small amount of money

I don't know anyone who's bought anything there, and our group regularly reminds each other to claim the free stuff. But I'm glad this worked for them, at least somewhat.

Isn't this in line with the conversion ratio of free to play games too? People who actually buy things is a low percentage but usually that small percentage is enough because they tend to spend more. I'm curious what conversion ratio Epic was hoping for.

I'm one of those 7% but it was just ~$25 total split between Witcher 3 GOTY and Disco Elysium, both using $10 off coupons so Epic probably lost money in both transactions.

I don't mind buying games on non-Steam stores, but I already have so many games on Steam that, given the choice, I'd rather just get it on Steam (or sometimes GOG because DRM free). It's a bit of a chicken-and-egg thing for me.

But I did get Tetris Effect on Epic, though I bought it before getting any free games, which is 11.9% of the user base.

Honestly….

that's kind of high considering the amount of people who claim the free games

Are people looking at the chart?
The ARPPU (average revenue per paying user) for users who made conversions (purchases) from a free game is lower than that from those who just bought games. F2P works because that value is significantly higher than if they'd just charged for the game, to offset the fact that only a small percentage of users actually make purchases
