I don't know if anyone here made a similar topic yet. I figure this is a good topic to post links and things for those looking for a change or an update on your job search

I remember this thread from the other place but never participated. I've been employed for the past 15+ years consecutively. Recently the company I work for lost the contract for which I was a manager on and since then I've been looking for work. It is a soul crushing experience indeed.

Needless to say after 15 years of not looking for a job I'm very out of touch with the current job market. I think that is making things a bit more difficult. I've got tons and tons of experience sitting on the 'other side' of the interview table but not much as the interviewee. I guess that is where I could use some help or tips, whatever.

Assuming I pass my CCNA, I plan to polish off my resume and start sending it out there. It's been almost two years at my current job. I love my boss and I have pretty good benefits, but the salary is a little low and I want to move up from help desk to systems or network admin. I am hoping that the fact that I like my current job will give me the upper hand in interviews. I am so used to being nervous and desperate usually.

I worked for the same company for real until they went into insolvency. Looking for work is hard work. I ended up working somewhere doing something very different because I strictly applied for at least 1 reasonable job every day and this was the only half way viable opportunity one slow Tuesday.

I never got interviews for things I was sure I was better suited for.

I used to do a bit of recruitment for my old employer and my experience of both sides of the coin in the last 12 months is that it is really imprortant to project a positive attitude however you feel inside. No one cares to hear how tough things have been for you when they are recruiting.

I suppose you're right. I feel like my current job is very limited, at least compared to what I'm reading in job descriptions.

Just got the boot today from the small business I worked at. Was making good income, but things have slowed down at work only needing one person, and I was the one to get outed.

I'm putting my resume together right now, and to be honest, it seems like it's the strongest its ever been. The only thing I hate though is requesting letters of recommendation and cover letters, bleh

My story is very typical. Late Industrial Engineering graduate (25) with only 6 months of experience and a graduate degree in B.A. Have been out of a job for a month, and I've been applying online at like 50 offers with no luck, not a single call, nothing.

Right now I'm looking into doing an AIESEC international internship but it must be good paying enough for me to, well, leave the country. And my mom, who is in charge of the family, and I can't wait to help.

I got my first paid job in March but after suffering discrimination from my co-worker and my ex-boss being a total idiot, I got fired in June, and I have been looking since I recently did an unpaid 8 weeks of admin placement hoping that it would land me a job at the company but alas that didn't happen so my job hunts still continues.

I just recently sent off a job application, though I know that I won't get it because I am not that lucky, and I trying to send out three job applications a day.

Still looking, unfortunately, 6 months out with a master's in BME. I'm getting calls and phone screens and a bit of 1st round interviews here and there, which is a good sign, but never anything beyond that. I'm hoping that I'm already the best I can be, and improving my resume and cover letter one iteration at a time.
Networking as an introvert is tough.

Sure, but they base that on how you sell yourself on your resume when you upload it. Indeed is pretty good about getting you noticed by recruiters pretty quickly when you upload a resume. Granted, you have to sift through a lot of crappy/shady companies blowing up your phone.

So, I have a CCENT and an A+. Yet, I'm having trouble finding a job because there just aren't any good job prospects around me, and its hard for me to find any relocation assistance for the things I'm qualified for. Is there any way to get employers to take me seriously for these jobs when I'm not local? Not even necessarily with relocation assistance, I can live in a car for a month if I have to.

Got terminated end of September and still looking. Had a few interviews and even gotten either to the last stage or next to last before getting dropped. Currently have one going right now that I'm going into the last stages for. I don't know whether to risk being hopeful or not. I suppose if anything it's made me rethink my spending quite a bit. Not that I was extreme before, but certainly being a lot more careful now.

After having to quit my last job, I've been unemployed for the last five months and it's been pretty brutal. I was essentially promised a manager position with a company I used to work with, but they decided to screw me over again, so it's been a struggle to make ends meet. I've applied at dozens of places, had a few interviews, but nothing has developed. I think my luck might finally be starting to turn as I just applied for a position with a company that my sister worked with, and I'll soon be applying for schooling as well.

I don't know about jobs in the us but here in Israel linkedin is a great way to find jobs.

I got my latest one off of a LinkedIn post.

I guess for tech jobs it's great.

I had two panel interviews today after a second phone interview. 2 hours, one just a regular interview and the second was a technical assessment. I'm exhausted, I feel like I fumbled one or two parts of the interview but made a good recovery. I'm nervous as hell, I really want this gig. At least they gave me a full tour of the office before I left, and gave me some good expresso. If they didn't like me I'm sure they'd shoo me out the building after it was done. Now for the painful wait.

Yeah, I'm looking too. I currently work in security compliance. I do program review and risk assessment for organizations, and it is awful. I'm extremely fortunate to have the job, but I work...maybe 5% of the time I'm actually at work? It's very project-based with not a lot of room for improvement or extra work when clients aren't being super responsive. I'm currently applying to two jobs a day, trying to get something in media. I run my own little video company but don't have the equipment to really branch out and have it be a full-time thing, so I'm trying to utilize my journalism and communications degree to get a spot in advertising and design. Have an interview next week with a company in my town to be a marketing manager, but the other 60 apps I sent out over the last few months have only gotten back to me with rejections.

Recently lost my job. I hate applications, I remember when I used to use career builder and literally applied everywhere no matter what and the only places I heard from were either commission based scams or nursing jobs I was not qualified for, I thought mathematically probability would get me one legit job from their but no. Eventually I did get a job but not from some career website.

Just recently got a job after a 3 month hunt. Some advice I would advise:

Flesh out your Indeed profile as much as you can.

Try out the LinkedIn Premium subscription for a month and apply for jobs you are interested in on their (after you get "All-Star" level on the profile completedness). This will show you your ranking among all other applicants. In the settings, make sure its enabled for recruiters to contact you.

LinkedIn is going to be your best shot at landing at job, IMO. I get at least a few recruiters contacting me through the website a month.

Any electrical/mech/civil engineers here would be wise to at least get your EIT certificate.

I'm employed, but desperately searching for a new job as I start school in the Spring and my job is far too rage and stress inducing to really deal with both at the same time. Man, it sucks. I've been applying to positions since March, but only in the last month or so have I been getting interviews. I guess I've been lucky that I've been getting a decent amount of them... but I'm getting zero call backs, and the interview and travel time is really draining my PTO. It's so frustrating because I feel most of my interviews go well (there was one that was a total bust), and there was even one where I legit had a 50/50 shot of getting an offer, but nothing. Yeesh. The worst part is that almost every position I get an interview for is a pay cut from my current position--I'm just really at the point where I need to move on from my current job.

Anyway I have another interview Thursday morning, and I'm waiting on a possible callback from another position (they said by the end of the year they'd know). I'm hoping something will pan out soon but my luck hasn't been all that great so far, lol.

Yes, wear a suit for the second interview. It's better to be overdressed than to be underdressed especially when it comes to interviews. Once you are done with interviews, and you start other parts of the hiring process then you can start dressing down a bit.

I have a phone interview in 2 weeks for a position that I'm maybe 75% qualified for. (Surprised that I got any response at all from just tossing a resume into the black hole that is applying for jobs online. Even more shocked when I cleared the phone screen.) Anyway, it's most likely a technical interview so there's a certain amount of cramming I'll need to do. But I have so much on my plate between now and then that I feel really overwhelmed in just mapping out what I should brush up on.

Either way, I'm planning on going part-time in January so I can embrace the job-seeker lifestyle. And to practice my extremely rusty programming skills. Looking forward to the latter part of that, at least.

Really don't know what to do at this point. I have an MBA that I got back in 2012 because I was freaking out and couldn't find work for shit back in 2009. I've been at an energy efficiency consultancy firm for the last 3 years as a program specialist in a market transformation initiative, but my roles have expanded and my wages haven't.

I've been looking around for coordination/management positions and I can't find crap. Every position seems to be so fined tuned to find the PERFECT candidate I just don't even know where to look or what to do. I need to get out of here, but... Bleh. I just feel like I'm submitting my resume to random crap for no reason. Also, I'm not even bothering with cover letters anymore. They take so much effort to do properly and I don't really see a benefit to them unless I REALLY want the position. Maybe I should care more? I don't know.

Currently employed in a quasi-consulting position in web/REST services testing, but not sure if it's going to be renewed/picked up for full-time in June (current end date), so I'll be getting into the hunt within a couple months if I don't hear anything soon about my prospects here as I know things can take quite a while even in best case scenarios. The last time I went hunting was about 3 years ago now, already not looking forward to the whole process again...
