The year is 2019.

The indies are dead.

The corporate machine has swallowed up what was left of an already dried-up landscape of independent talent.

Those who were supposed to thrive in the new era were taken as well, plunging the world of wrestling as we know it - into darkness.

Out of talent, hope, and alternatives; those who remained were forced to call on the ones left behind...

We need you, "Bad Boy" Joey Janela. Now more than ever.

Joey Janela returns to in-ring action for the first time since September 2018 at Joey Janela's Spring Break Part 1, April 5th in Jersey City. Parts 1 and 2 are both sold out but you can still catch the hottest North American wrestling events of April 2019 LIVE on Fite.TV unless you're a fucking geek

I am ready for Wrasslemania weekend, bros. Leading to the inevitable disappointment that will be Wrestlemania proper.

I watched the John Oliver bit. It was good, but the entire second half of it hinges on him claiming "WWE listens to its fans" which is patently untrue.

I took it more as 'the fans use their voice and sometimes force the WWE's hand'.

The segment was great, I really hope the fans start some chants, though we know signs will be confiscated.

Doesn't that just give half off shows? Granted 5 bucks per show isn't that bad
It's funny because it actually includes the live PPVs now but WWN is bootleg as fuck so they never updated the website graphics

But it was always meant to be a streaming service for their shows so you didn't have to buy them all

Okay, so I figured out another strategy

For anyone who missed the FITE Fest bundle

If you buy the WWN and WrestleCon bundles individually, it's $130 (which is only $15 more than the FITE Fest package was) and you get most of the relevant shows. The only major things missing there that were in the other bundle are the Stardom show (which available separately for $10), the G1 Supercard (which will stream live on NJPW World anyways) and the Impact show. It's missing some other minor things like WrestlePro, but those two bundles will get you EVOLVE, WWN Supershow, SHIMMER, WrestleCon Supershow, DDT, wXw, and more.

I don't know if those bundles will suddenly disappear like the FITE FEST did, but that's what I'm going with right now.

Are any of these other promotions on WWN worth checking out? I've heard of Dragon Gate and Shine, but all the others are unknown to me

STARDOM show is $9.99

ahh you edited it

Coward STARDOM announce your creep card and reveal if the rest is as disappointing as the first

Granted every other western name on that released list is better than Dust

I've got like 26 Fitebucks left. Wish they'd release details on how Double or Nothing is being distributed and how much it's going to cost already, so I can decide whether to save them or use them for a couple Mania weekend shows.

Yeah I was buying stuff as I was making that post.

Also for those wondering, ClubWWN (for $10) will stream the EVOLVE show on Thursday and the WWN Supershow, but not any of the other WWN events like DDT or wXw.

All of this info will be nice and tidy in the non-WWE WM Weekend OT. Should be up in the next 48 hours or so.

And for those who want to try their luck on a long-shot, it might be worth remembering the FITE Fest bundle URL. They put it up again temporarily last night when they added some shows to the lineup, so they might do that again if they add any more shows (Possibly for the Evolve shows, if those ever get added to Fite).

Given this tweet tonight I don't think it's going up again

But good thinking. Also, the EVOLVE shows are on FITE. They are part of the WWN bundle there and were part of the FITE Fest.

Is there a clause in the Stardom/ROH partnership that ROH can only ever use the same 4 Stardom wrestlers?

His joke about what Roman's wet hair makes him look like might end up backfiring though. That was the only bit of the segment I didn't like.

I think he's trying to say "wrestling is cool but Vince sucks"

So does Vince get away with the independant contractor bullshit because any lawsuit challenging it would have to be done in Connecticut, and he owns every judge or politician in that state one way or another?

Hm, wonder if it's geoblocked or something. I'm not seeing Evolve in the description for the WWN bundle (It's only mentioned on the bundle's poster image), and it's not in my purchased shows for the Fite Fest bundle. Now that I look through Fite's archives, the latest Evolve show available for me is 114.

Last Week Tonight segment didn't really cover any new ground. Saying they listen to the fans and then playing a segment they deliberately constructed to get Roman booed was silly.

Some people on Twitter were asking FITE about WWN shows not showing up

No. He gets away with it because, being the only game in town, no relevant wrestler wants to go against him. They can drown you in court if you're small time, and if you are big time you'll probably need Vince's pocketbook again at some point or you're so big that you don't need to give a shit about what the average wrestler faces because Vince will take care of you no matter what.

The only recent case brought against it was a class-action thing with a few guys (Raven being the main one), but it was mismanaged to hell and back and had a shitty lawyer fronting it. And it took years and years to get resolved. It was eventually dismissed based on a combination of bad arguments and they said that the statute of limitations had expired.

So basically you'd need combo of a guy who is relevant enough to make his own money without Vince, is willing to go through the court headache and years of fighting, and is a recent enough star that they can beat the statute. And you're not gonna get that.

Even a guy like Cody who hits all those boxes has made it clear he doesn't want to be on Vince's bad side. A guy like Cena or Batista could do it but they don't give a fuck. And no one on the roster today really could because they aren't going to step out against Vince when he still holds all the cards.

Nobody actually wants to go to court over it. For wrestling companies, those contracts are fucking bogus and the talent don't want to spend time and money in a protracted legal battle with a giant corporation. Any time someone does have the guts to sue them for it, they get their release so it doesn't make it to court. The most recent example is Lucha Underground, who settled out of court with three people to let them go.

I mean hell, if CM Punk of all people didn't push that direction, who would?

He had every reason to, every grudge, and he has no reason to not burn bridges if what he says his mindset is is actually true.

Eventually he just signed a NDA and moved on because no one wants to get dragged through court for years for something that in the end wouldn't retroactively help them and only serves to help the future.

Even Jeff Jarrett, who had two different wrestling companies and wrestled for every major promotion in the world, eventually came back to Vince looking for a job.

Guys don't want to burn that bridge no matter what today looks like because at the end of the day Vince has run it all for so long.

Yeah he was smart enough to see he wouldn't win that battle. No one will.

Even in UFC they are super quick to squash any talk of union. Shit won't change until the company is dead or marginalized.

So the IRS has no authority to look into the classification "independent contractor" that WWE is clearly abusing?

Literally the only hope is that in a few years time AEW is established and self-sustaining enough that guys have a better option

And even then I wouldn't count on it because jfc this company technically hasn't even run a show yet and you already have Cody out there going "WELL I DON'T KNOW ABOUT A UNION, GUYS"
