Are all European public bathroom stalls like this? No risk of making eye contact while pooping!

You guys don't have gaps above, beneath and between the stalls!

European public bathroom stalls:
American public restroom stalls:
Much more private. No risk of making accidental eye contact with some stranger, thru the gap, while I'm sitting down on the toilet. And no tall guy can peer at you over the stall wall!

And just to prove that I'm not alone in noticing this, here's a German woman describing her experiences in American public restrooms. Timestamped video:

Europe-Era, have you ever encountered gaps in pubic restrooms?

Not all, but a lot.I was shocked when I arrived in Canada and saw how wide the gap was between the door and the wall.

I always thought it was odd that American restroom privacy seems to be inversely related to how squeamish Americans are about nudity in general.

Seems like you have found your niche in topic-making. :P

And you can have weird stalls in Europe too, but generally if it lets you sit down, you'll have privacy. Urinals generally only have shoulder high partitions, or sometimes even non. And then you have thise public stalls in the street in Ghent, where I live, where you can watch passersby when you take a piss, and even have polite conversations with them while having your dick in hand.

Agreed. I was on a university swim team and there were single showers and guys usually wrapped towels around their waists ASAP after leaving them (except for old people).
But then the bathroom stalls are basically wide open. Weird.

Of course it's Taki. You made me laugh out loud. You're great.

Good bathroom stalls are like little rooms. No way to look under or over. The type on quote 2 exists but is very rare. Like, I've seen it once in 29 years of bowel movements.

More importantly, are the locks functional and has the coathanger been broken off?

Well how else are all the teen slasher killers in America supposed to see which stall their victim is in?

The other night at my local diner I went to drop a deuce and the worst thing of all times happened to me.

Door wasn't locked and an enormous old dude with sweatpants half-down was wiping his ass while standing up. His fucking hand was half up his monstrous cheeks and he somehow turned and just whispered "Ahhhh fuck...." as I slammed the door in utter disgust.

Not really the kind of desert I was looking for.

Anyway, in summation, typical cheap open American stalls could've prevented this utter travesty. But no, they had to have a single bathroom...

Its a toilet. go in and do your business. who cares if there's gap as long there's a door.
In indonesia we had several toilets (military bases etc) that looked like this:

believe me, if you have to go (and I really had to go to the toilet countless times in indonesia..) you are even thankful for this installation. obligatory bucket full of dirty water as sink included

single showers in university/schools?
When I was at school (later university) we had community showes only (austria, that is). dunno if thats different now as I'm an old fuck.

As someone who has used American-style public restrooms for over two decades, I have never had this happen to me.
same. but if we are talking about walking by maybe. but you have to be going slow and staring longingly to make eye contact.

now urinals though. they try to have dividers that is too short for tall people.

I was told this trend started to make sure homeless people don't sleep there. Not sure how true that is but it seems like an American thing to do.

United States
In France alone "public" restroom stalls were so inconsistent.

Not to mention charging to use some of them, even at a place like a train station.

One thing we generally don't have in UK public toilet stalls is the U shaped toilet seat with front cutout.

Always appreciated this particular innovation when dropping trou in the states. Having to practically push your shaft down vertically every time is needless busywork.

I definitely wish stalls in Canada were like this. In fact, I'd take it a step further and have all bathrooms be individual single-door rooms. In cases where you need a bunch, then you can have shared sinks outside them. This not only helps with privacy, but also eliminates the stupid need for gender/sex-specific rooms, which are dumb. Just have a bunch of single rooms that everyone can use in peace, and be completely private!

Yeah I hate stalls that have those clear gaps in between. Back in university I always tried to go to one that didn't have gaps or they were hardly noticeable, you never know when some kind of creep might try and take a pikachu.

The downside is that you don't get the dramatic scene in the movie where someone tries to hide in a bathroom stall by standing on the toilet

For what is worth, Orlando's airport has some of the best public restrooms I've ever used. Plenty of room, good quality paper, several proper places to hang your clothes and/or bags, sparkingly clean.

Truly a public restroom for a world class shitting experience.

Buc-ees is the gold standard for public bathrooms in the states. Nit only are the stalls completely enclosed with good locks, not only do they have a red light/green light system to show occupancy so no one jiggles your handle trying to get in, they are always immaculately clean.

It's designed to keep costs down, both in terms of manufacturing and cleaning. By having the large ~1 ft gap at the bottom you can mop most of the floor without having to individually go into each stall. It's not really that useful though since you will end up having to go into each stall anyway

Fuck them wide gaps in America. I can't poop properly with them. Always stressed out someone will peek in (and they have). Even when the stall is closed, some people wonder if there is someone inside, so they peek through the crack. Others just look throught the big hole below.

Most are like that yes.

I've only ever come across the American ones a handful of times, do you guys clap when you're finished?

What is that gap thing widespread in American cubicles? A big ass gap around the door enough that people can clearly see in? Fucking hell America is even more dystopian than I thought. No privacy at all.

I get the gaps at top and bottom and by and large most toilets in the UK have that too. Probably a safety measure should someone collapse or a security issue in case people are doing nefarious things in there like taking drugs or fucking.. but you have to go out your way to peer over/under. But a big ass gap around the door, nope. NOPE NOPE NOPE

Yes. It was a pretty modern campus gym in the US. Every shower had walls separating them and a curtain in front.
I've never seen that in Germany (or anywhere in Europe, really).
