Are you learning anything over the holidays to benefit your return to work?

Yo.

Just curious, really. I'm learning vbscript over the holidays to help me in my job. It's not a mandatory thing for me to know (especially since I'm already versed in PowerShell and would use that instead) but a few of my colleagues use vbscript and at the moment I can only really read it, not fully understand and edit it. It'd be good to be as in-the-know for that language as they are.

I'm off for more than two weeks so easily enough time to get fully up to speed on it.

God no, I'll forget about work the minute I leave the building, and start thinking about it again when I walk through the door in January.

I'm learning methods to end this capitalistic nightmare that's pressuring workers into the constant feeling they should have to optimize themselves to be more efficient in their jobs.

I'm learning about work life balance and the value of time not dedicated to work or the progress thereof.

I do enough e-learning shit throughout the year that I ain't spending my break doing more of it. On the 29th my gf and I leave for the Caribbean for 2 weeks and it's all pleasure. Love my job and my coworkers but FUCK work.

For the past two months, I've been taking a MOOC to learn Python coding and data science in the hopes to make a career change. In January I start a master's program in data science! I wrap up this MOOC this week, and It's awesome and I love what I've learned and I love doing it! I just hope I can get a job with what I know sooner, rather than later, because as it stands, I'm due to be unemployed on Jan 1 at my current position. :(

Jesus, no. This is my free time. The holidays are all about family and fun. Work can fuck off.

Yes, thank you, company overlords, for deigning to give me some off time.

I shall repay this deed 10 fold and dedicate all my waking time to improving your bottom line so that one day, you can replace me with a robot.

Merry Christmas.

I've been reading a gestalt counselling in action book as part of counselling training. It's not as dry as others are saying.

LOL no. I like my job well enough, but i will not be thinking about it at all during my 2-week break. I don't get paid enough for that.

Im hoping to get some personal projects off the ground to start building a portfolio again and maybe pivot to a new job in 2020 (or return to freelance).

I would normally just want to fuck off and chill out for the holiday but I wanna kind of get back into creating stuff for myself and having more fun with it.

I finish in an hour and that's me until the 6th January. Will not be thinking about work at all.

I guess that depends on if my employer considers extremely mediocre drumming beneficial to me, a programmer.

Yep, learning C#. However, this Friday is my last day at my current job and in January I will be starting a job where I will be using C#. I have been doing development for close to 10 years now so switching languages isn't a big deal, just want to to not go in totally green.

Yea, I'll be on vacation for two weeks after Christmas. I plan on reading some management books and employee retention.

Wasn’t planning on it, but I should probably do some continuing education for my CISSP cert.

I work retail. I get Christmas off and that’s it. I’m trying very hard to get a job that gives me two weeks off for the holidays, though.

You're in an IT position where you get 2 weeks off for the holidays? I'm lucky to not be on call and actually get to enjoy my Christmas and New Year's Days in peace lol

Will be digging into some MCSA/MCSE Core Infrastructure cert prep materials for Windows Server and Office 365.

lmao
I had on-call for Christmas last year, and Thanksgiving the year before that, so my boss went out of his way to move me completely out of the holiday rotations this year.

Lol. Getting anything but Christmas Day off for the Holidays. No. I will be working right up to Christmas Eve and will be back the day after Christmas.

I used a lot of annual leave, lol.

Should say - learning on the job is something I have very little time for which is why I need to do it on my own time.

Definitely.

Not.

I'm not learning shit when i work, you can bet i won't learn shit when i don't. Vacations are for being cut away from work, not make sure you work better.

That makes more sense. I'm given 8 days of time a year for training, took a VMware course in October, but that was more of a refresher/get a cert course
