Hang in there. A lot of people seem to be switching jobs currently. I'm actually attending a coding boot camp currently trying to get into full stack development.
Do you want to stay in your industry or move out?
I didn't know it was my dream job until I started doing it professionally, Software Engineering. I work for a great company and I have my own side consulting gig in the field. I fucking love it and everything related to it. My workplace is fantastic as well and we get crazy perks.
Now, I am not rich at all, but between my job and my business I am in the very low three digits annually,and my fiancée also works in IT and earns a decent amount so our combined salary is comfy enough to have some excesses and comodities every once in a while. A big bulk of our money goes to traveling and individual hobbies.

I am rich. Not mega-rich but I got around a million in liquid in various places and assets valued more. I play poker online and at casinos. 99% of it is cash games.
This first part is bullshit though. I grew up in a family that was the 0.1% of our country, and still no one called themselves rich because we knew people that were "proper" rich. If you are doing better than 98% of your peers, just accept you are rich.

I'm in banking. I really wouldn't mind moving out of that industry. I have applied to several companies out of the finance world with no success so far. Sucks!

I'm really not. I realise that a lot of purple don't have an emergency fund but that doesn't make me rich.

Well, there's another angle to that, where your peers will probably be at, near, or even above your income level in a lot of cases. I know a lot of peers who do make more than I do. I guess I could say that I don't feel rich for the kind living standard that I want, I guess?
You just said 98% percentile though. It would be literally living in a bubble if you are surrounded by people that make as much or more than you. Living in the bubble of the elite of the elite.
Idk what counts as rich. I'm like top 2% for America but I don't feel rich. The difference between 2% and 1% can be crazy. I don't really think people are rich until they're almost millionaires or something.
Even when I was little and kinda poor I didn't think a few hundred thousand dollars was rich.
Dont have a dream job because I'd prefer not to ever work and just invest.

There's a HUGE gap between the 98th percentile for my age group and the 99th and 100th. It's like ultra exponential.
I enjoyed this job for a while now. But I'm thinking it's starting time to move on. Currently working on getting my certainly for A+ and Network+ and then using that and this current field tech job to spring board into something nice or at least lateral with same pay but learning new skills.

Can't say I'm rich, but not struggling either. I actually like my desk job though, so that is a huge plus. I've sacrificed a lot of earning potential for a lower-key gig with normal (40 h/w) hours.
Rich: Not rich but We make enough that even with 2 kids we can pretty much do what we want with proper budgeting.
Dream Job: Not sure i have a dream job but I am in supply chain and it is a field I enjoy very much with plenty of opportunity to always improve the company.
How'd I get there: Resume and Interview skills are vital. You can be the most talented individual in the world but no one will give you a minute of their time if your resume is not up to par. Make sure your resume includes things you did that are above and beyond and not talk about the day to day tasks.
If you get past the resume part you better know how to interview well. You need to be able to talk yourself up and form a relationship with the interviewers.
After that, I always took on the jobs no one wanted. If there was a project that was impossible that is the project that matters. Also do more then is required and get your hands dirty in cross functional departments. Anyone can do the day to day of a job, companies want someone that will expand and improve.

Yeah like $250k would put you in the top 2% in the US but $400k and 10 million would both be considered top 1%. I think looking at income in this way is flawed.
I'm not rich, but well off. I chalk it all up to hard work and a little bit of luck. I'm doing exactly what I wanted to do . . . I went to school initially for 3D / VFX, but I switched over to Motion Graphics, and I'm thankful I did so when I look at the state of that industry. Been doing it since the early 2000's professionally, and I own my own small shop at this point. Don't want to get any larger, I'm in a perfectly happy and content spot.

Job wise, it's not my dream job, but I can't complain. It's fairly low stress, and I have a pretty liberal work from home deal.

My wife and I are very comfortable. Own 2 places and a buying our third place next year. Purchased a new vehicle this year and I'll probably buy another vehicle in a few years. We are having our first kid in a few months so it's nice knowing we have flexibility with money. I am not working my dream job.
Agreed. Rainy day funds are a must for anyone that isn't living pay cheque to pay cheque (which, to be fair, is a lot of people).
Definitely don't have a dream job. I wanted to work in video production and writing, but those formal jobs hardly exist where I live. My wife and I want to start a video production company, since nobody around here does it, and market ourselves to do wedding videography and advertisements. It's a big market, but there's money there if you know how to advertise yourself.
Right now I work in advertising and pay-per-click campaign management. It's not fun, but it pays the bills. I hope to move on in the next few years to something that focuses more on the video side of that process, or just drop it and put serious time into our little business idea.

If you are making $250, you are making 80 times the median global income. That is rich in my books.

thanks for sharing. I find myself sending hours on LinkedIn and Glassdoor looking for opportunities, skills recruiters are looking for and that people working in companies I'm interested in have.
I don't feel rich. I live in Alberta so my income, despite being high, is still considered middle class. I definitely make more than my peers in other Provinces. I also hate what I do.

Not even paycheck to paycheck. I have met people whose house is 5 pieces of zinc, where they live with their whole family. Having a solid house to call your own, access to food and a fund to keep you going for a few months is being rich when compared to how most people live in the world.
I find that while we all want to be richI worked to get to a point where I can be happy and comfortable "without reasonable worry." This means
I have 6+ months of emergency funds/rent saved up in case I were for some reason to lose my job tomorrow
My kids/pets are in school/comfortable and have food, shelter, and clothing
My retirement accounts are setup and being funded
The level of security at home/office is more than reasonable.
So no, I am no rich, I do have to make sure I follow my monthly budget, but given all the above I cannot complain. All I can keep doing is learning new skills, reading new books, educating myself on matters that interest me, and strive forward.

I feel comfortable, and I make 50K and live in an apartment. I'd qualify having multiple places as being rich.
I feel like I make pretty good money but I also feel like I'll never be able to own a house, and I see people saying they are on houses 2 and 3 and my mind just boggles.
