MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. (AP) — A 39-year-old Arkansas man has been arrested after Atlanta police accused him of making threatening telephone calls to CNN.

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that Benjamin Craig Matthews of Mountain Home, Arkansas, was taken into custody Tuesday and remains jailed on $15,000 bond. Matthews faces multiple counts of making terrorist threats and harassing communications.

It was unclear from online jail records of he had an attorney.

Sheriff John Montgomery says Atlanta police contacted his office to report CNN's headquarters had received threatening calls between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. The network reported more than 40 such calls were made from the same phone number.

The calls were traced to a cellphone belonging to Matthews, who also was alleged to have made threatening calls to another television network.

Bit from FOX16: AR Man Charged with Threatening to Kill CNN Anchor

In the calls, he is alleged to have said he would like to "kick the [expletive] out of DL."

Don Lemon is the anchor of CNN Tonight.

In subsequent calls, investigators say Matthews asked CNN's operator "Could I be directed to DL's dead body hanging from a tree?" In another call, made on Nov. 1, he asks "Is DL dead yet? Can you help me kill that [redacted]?"

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) states that Matthews called CNN more than 40 times between October 31 and November 2, and included general harassment, threat of bodily injury, and threatening the journalist's life.

Atlanta Police's Homeland Security Department contacted BCSO deputies when they learned where the calls originated, and audio recording were made. Investigators say someone with "personal knowledge" of Matthews identified his voice.

Further investigation found that Matthews had contacted another television network, as well as to various public officials and organizations.

Matthews was taken into custody on November 6. He is being held at the Baxter County Detention Center facing the following charges: five felony counts of First Degree Terroristic Threatening, four misdemeanor counts of Second Degree Terroristic Threatening, nine misdemeanor counts of Harassing Communications.

All of my friends and family who have through or near Mountain Home say it is possibly the most racist place on planet Earth. This story is not surprising to me in the slightest. I'm glad the shitbag was arrested.

I bet the other network starts with M and ends with NBC.

And he did this from his own cell phone? It's almost insultingly incompetent.

Don Lemon, Jim Acosta, Cuomo, are just a few names that probably get death threats every...single...day of the week. They probably cant go anywhere in public without a security escort.
