Arknights is a Tower Defense Gacha game for mobile devices, released in China in May, 2019.

As the world was torn apart by Catastrophes of unknown origin, Originium Ore suddenly appeared. The power of the ore was harnessed to push civilization forward. But Originium Ore also gave birth to the Infected…

The Infected are those negatively afflicted by Originium Ore. The fatality rate of this affliction, Oripathy, is theoretically 100%. The threat of contagion remains upon the carrier's death. Combined with the threat of dangerous, unknown powers, most countries have chosen to expel the Infected. Left stateless, the Infected had no clear path in life. But recently, the Infected have begun to gather around the radical resistance movement known as "Reunion."

Reunion rallies around the cause of Infected nationalism, rejecting racial and national identities. They aggressively push for acquisition and exploitation of Infected power. Reunion uses violence in their push for justice, having gone so far as to destroy an entire city. This led to the intervention of a pharmaceutical company called "Rhodes Island".

The most advanced Infected research institution in the world, Rhodes Island is not afraid to employ the Infected. They are known to go deep into hazardous areas to take care of issues related to the Infected. They are currently working with many governments, corporations, and NGOs to uncover the causes of an Infected riot on an unprecedented scale.

Your decisions will have a significant impact on how Rhodes Island will proceed.

Arknights is a gacha tower defense game for mobile platforms wrapped in gorgeous art by truly talented individuals. Like a traditional tower defense game, a stream of enemies will deploy from designated areas and move across the map towards your base. Your goal as the Doctor is to place Operators at strategic locations as to stop the enemy's advances. Cost Points build over time or through various actions (such as summoning Vanguards or certain Specialist abilities), and these points can be spent to deploy Operators onto the field. You may withdraw and redeploy Operators (after a cooldown), and these decisions will spell victory or defeat.

AKi1xqU.png

There are eight Operator classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Vanguards are the class that generate Cost Points quickly and are usually deployed early. Defenders are your standard tank class and can "hold" multiple enemies at one time, halting their advances. Guards are a melee DPS and can hold limited amounts of enemies at one time. Snipers are ranged DPS, able to deal physical damage at a safer distance. Casters are ranged DPS that deal magical damage, which penetrates armor. Medics are the main healers of any team that can buff allied Operators as well as keep them alive. Supporters employ tactics that can help your team succeed, whether by buffing Operators or debuffing enemies. Finally, Specialists are the Operators that have skills unique to them, whether this be a utilizing a unique playstyle (redeployment speed) or manipulating the location of enemy units.

The game itself has no auto combat, however, there is a memory mode. Whenever a stage is cleared, it can be "saved" and repeated for that stage any time. This includes ability usage and Operator placement. This can fail through RNG if the stage is difficult and you barely squeaked through, although you are given a warning if this is about to take place.

Finally, there is a base system that is similar to games like Fallout Shelter. It is a major part of the game, and is another source of customization, from decorations to prioritizing outputting resources for the main part of the game.

There are two different types of gacha: Recruit and Headhunt.

Recruit is a timer-based gacha system that is "free" to all players. You earn tickets through various tasks, like weekly quests, login rewards, and so on, and these can be used in Recruit. You can then use a timer to increase or decrease the time it takes to summon a unit. For example, you can increase the timer to 9 hours (max) and increase the chance to receive a rarer unit (and eliminate lower rarity units completely) or you can decrease the timer to 1 hour and open up the pool to all rarity units. The system is very similar to Girls Frontline or [BANNED GAME], although you do not earn as many summon tickets as in those games.

The second gacha, Headhunt, is your standard gacha, premium currency and all. Gacha odds are:

2% - ******
8% - *****
50% - ****
40% - ***

There are only units in the gacha, so no artifacts, craft essences, dragons, or weapons. Also, there is a pity system. After 50 rolls of no six starred Operator, six star chance raises by 2% each single roll, until after 100 rolls it is 100%. It is reset after pulling a six star Operator. It is NOT reset between banners, so if you were to roll 68 times and not get a six star Operator, and the banner ends, you would have an 38% chance to get a six star Operator on your next pull, no matter which banner you pull on.

Duplicates not required, but add some minor benefits. There are five stages, so to max a unit out, five duplicates are required. These benefits include reduced deployment costs, re-deployment time reduction, minor stat enhancements, and the final unlock is unique to each Operator. These are nice to have, but none are necessary.

Looks super interesting - I love Tower Defense - but I don't love feeling compelled to spend 400 dollars to get a character I'm lacking.

Nice OT! I've been following the game for half a year and cannot believe it's finally upon us. Been reading the gamepress guides and watching lots of vids. I only play Iron Saga nowadays and more like a side game when I'm in between matches of SFV.

If I get minimum 1 of Exu/Eyj/SA then I'll be good with my starting team.

I am starved for good tower defense and having this mobile will be great. English discussions on the CN release often hint that it is f2p-friendly, challenging, and premium currency is best used on alternate skins. I don't think it will be a 2nd career like other mobile behemoths but hopefully this will be a fun daily diversion.

Might check this out tomorrow. How painful/important is rerolling in this game?
The beginner banner guarantees a 6*, but there are characters not in the beginner banner. You can pull multiple 6* in the beginner banner. It takes 7-10 minutes to reroll.

Rerolling is not required because of this. However, like all gacha games, certain characters will make your life easier and are generally considered better. That said, you can clear all content without any of these characters. It's about efficiency.

I personally am only rerolling for a character I like, I don't care how good they are.

If you only care about power, Silverash > Exusiai > any 6* from the beginner banner seems to be general consensus.

The real pros will reroll for Eyjafjalla + Exusiai/Silverash.

Eyjafjalla not in the newbie banner, so going to take real patient people here.

Cool, that doesn't sound too bad.

I'm in this specifically for the general aesthetic. The fact that it has a decent game underneath (I played the CBT) is just gravy.

Gimme dat Blue Poison.

Very excited to play this after, I expect, the miserable week of rerolling.

There's a bit of a scandal going on in the Chinese version where they just released the first limited-edition banner unit, which shares rate up with a non-limited. Wonderfully timed warning to consider saving up currency/tickets after all. Each new banner has a guaranteed 5* on the first 10pull I've read, but the timed recruits should make hoarding feasible, hrmm.

Loved playing the CBT so I cannot wait to play the full game! Thanks for the OT ein.

Thankfully my favorite character is Cardigan so no reroll worry for me.

Japanese and English versions are up on Qooapp if you're not in the regions available. Game's taking up 1.3gb so far, but there's probably additional downloads after the server is up.

game is up in 11.5 hours.

Random post from somewhere:

Want more from your gacha pulls?

• Every gacha banner guarantees a 5★ in its first 10 rolls
• This applies to each gacha banner, which means when it changes banner, you get another 5★ guarantee!
• This means you don't dump all your ArtificialO into one banner, especially when its guarantee is already claimed

• We get 2800 ArtificialO per week, which is 5600 saved up during the 15 days.
○ We are 400 short of doing an x10 pull, on every banner for a guarantee!
○ Remember that it's not always the 10th pull that gives the 5★
○ Monthly pack gives 200 ArtificialO per day, and thus 3000 ArtificialO within those 15 days, so it solves the problem
○ F2P players can opt doing x10 pulls every other banner, or just save up until your own preference, or favorite character's banner.

This is just a reminder that without the 5★ guarantee, it is possible to pull x10 without a single 5★ nor 6★
But it can be avoided!
Always go for the newbie gacha which is the 3800 one.
Do not roll the 6000 gacha unless you're using headhunting ticket or just solo pull with Artificial Originium ArtificialO until you get the guaranteed 5* in the first 10 pull.

Never use your PureO, save those for future character skins and limited banner or use them to refill your sanity. If you're a f2p player then it is unwise to use refill your sanity with PureO

Also you can generally consider that 6* are op, but there are various 3/4* that can be good as well

ArtificialO - Red icon
PureO - Yellow icon

Notable 5*
vanguard: Texas
guard: indra
defender: liskarm

supporter: projekt red

ranger/sniper: blue poison, meteorite
caster: skyfire, amiya (honorable mention because she's free)
medic: silence, ptilopsis
specialist: pramanix

Notable 3/4*
vanguard: vigna(4), scavenger(4), plume(3), fang(3), vanilla(3)
guard: frostleaf(4), melantha(3)
defender: cuora(4), beagle(3), gum(4 russian name)

supporter: gravel(4), shaw(4), rope(4)

ranger: metror(4), shirayuki(4), kroos(3)
caster: gitano(4), haze(4), lava(3)
medic: gavial(4), perfumer(4), ansel(3)
specialist: earthspirit(4), orchid(3)

Another video on rerolling, but this time, there are some arguments for other characters than just Silverash.

Basically, go for who you want, don't feel bad for not going with the consensus. All characters, but especially six stars, excel somewhere.

i'm ready/subbed!

no pre-load on android yet from the looks of it?

-nervously cracking fingers-

on goes my I-Never-Reroll-For-Anything way of playing gacha games, who's with me? Glad to see it's not really needed here anyway

Is there like a... "week 1 guide" so we don't accidentally screw something up? difficult to understand the cited post above...

This is a game I've seen pop up left and right, but I'm always weirded out by the difference between the general art style (that I really like) and how the chibi style of the tower defense and base management looks which is a major step down ...

Downloaded for aesthetics, will hopefully stay for gameplay. Haven't played many tower defense games but I'm open to them.

Hopefully the game isn't too convoluted with the typical mobile items, upgrades, currencies, etc.
