Ubishit amiriteAh great, instead of improving narrative in ubisoft games, they'll now just be done by the players!
ah ok, couldn't tell if it was a joke. My bad.Not in the slightest, AC Odyssey was one of my favorite games of last year, and I'm currently playing the newest DLC. I was mostly joking, though the series has been incredibly disappointing with its over arching narrative for a while now, and introducing player choice and rpg-style questing plays a big part in that.
Please Ubi. If this is anything like FarCry Arcade I will love yall.
And yes if we can do our own dialogue I will be so damn happy.
I mean the actual MP was a disappointment but the map editor was not.Didn't Far Cry Arcade end up being a disappointment?
I remember people complaining about it a lot.
People keep making great stuff in it and it sold millions of copies. So there's an audience and maker community for it.Didn't Far Cry Arcade end up being a disappointment?

If they do it they are doomed. What will future Assassin's Creed get as side content? It will be impossible to do something that hasn't been done in this new mode...
Tell that to Super Mario Maker.Well balanced and polished content?
User Content is rarely ever good. For every 99 shitty stories, maybe 1 ends up being decent.
I don't think it's a maybe.
Yesterday when the DLC released the game did the usual pop-up prompt to let me know it was there and downloadable. I went to the PlayStation Store, started the download, waited for it to finish, jumped back into the game, and when the PS4 resumed the game, the cursor had this message stuck to it:
It followed the cursor around the menus:
So, there's something there already called My Stories, either present and waiting to be unlocked or (as the message suggests), partially present and waiting for an update to complete the feature.
(I checked all the menus, there was nothing new, just this one message following the cursor around).
Presumably, any user-generated content will be limited to using assets that are already in the game. Be that animations, environments, items, etc. Not to mention that it will, of course, be limited to the setting of Odyssey. And it likely won't be voiced, either, and won't have proper cutscenes. So yeah, there's plenty of new stuff Ubisoft will be able to do in future games that people won't be able to do with this mode.If they do it they are doomed. I mean I'm all for it too, but I'm scared that Ubisoft are shooting themeselves adding this. All that being said, I do hope that this will be feature-rich and in-depth to allow people to really tell their own stories and unfold their creativity. At the moment, I'm cautiously optimistic but it might just turn out to be very barebones and lacklustre.
I think a large chunk of their playerbase won't even end up touching the user generated content or will maybe play, like, the five most popular user generated quests so I really wouldn't be worried. And the kinds of stories you can tell and tell well will be limited by the setting. There are certain things that just won't work in ancient Greece.I mean all for it too, but I'm scared that Ubisoft are shooting themeselves adding this. Let's see how it turns out.
Yeah, released yesterday. This episode is probably going to split the opinions of fans of the first episode.OH SNAP
The 2nd episode of the Atlantis DLC is out ?
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, need to download it ASAP. Really loved the first episode.
I think it's not going to affect them, whatever Story Mode ends up being, it'll have limitations compared to what Ubisoft themselves can do. I expect it'll probably let you set a quest-giver, set objectives throughout the map, set some kind of reward, then do some basic scripting (both in the narrative sense and the game sense of having events trigger). That would result in some nice additional content and some weird ideas, but probably nothing that'd threaten Ubisoft's own production.I mean I'm all for it too, but I'm scared that Ubisoft are shooting themeselves adding this. Yep, Odyssey probably now has about twice as much content as when it originally released, and it was one of the most content-packed games of 2018, and there's still a DLC episode, this Story Mode and the Discovery tour to come.the support Origins / Odyssey get post release is RIDICULOUS, no matter what you might feel about the games.
At the very least it'll need to be optionally enabled. One of the AC Odyssey updates a few months back had a screenshot showing an updated options menu, which included a Story Mode On/Off option that nobody at the time knew the purpose of (and which raised suspicions when that update released and didn't include that option). One thing I am curious about is how these will tie into the main game. Will people just be able to specifiy a recommended skill level or a point in the story where their quest should become available and, if you've "installed" that quest as a player, you will be able to play it at that point in the game as part of your normal playthrough or will they be completely separate from the main story or sth?
This is a really good question. I guess any kind of character would be playable. It'd add a whole lot of flexibility to the mode with minimal effort from Ubisoft. Will people be limited to Kassandra and Alexios as the protagonists of their quests or will they be able to pick any random character (or even create one using the NPC character creator)? So many questions.
Odyssey was a 8/10 when it launched, it's dangerously close to a solid 9 now.the support Origins / Odyssey get post release is RIDICULOUS, no matter what you might feel about the games.
But what if you create a quest that is supposed to fit into a specific part of the main story or that references characters or events from earlier in the main story? There should be some sort of way to specify at what point a quest shows up. Maybe you will be able to reference the official quests and specify that yours should be triggered once quest XYZ is completed or sth.At the very least it'll need to be optionally enabled. For skill levels I think they'll default to relying on the level scaling. They have that system in place and tied into player preferences already, so it'd make sense to use it rather than having people create level 99 quests that only a fraction of the player base can access.
