Been meaning to ask, what's the deal with the 'Picture of the Day' looking like a piece of concept art? I had assumed it was just he the most 'heart-ed' photo of the day and people were using some sort of filter but there was an artist signature on today's.

Yeah the pic of the day feature seems a bit broken, i have seen four and the have always been official concept art.

20 hours in, level 23, 30% done per the Ubisoft Club. About to kill Scarab now.

This game is humongous.

So a few weeks back I switched to Hard because Normal was too easy. Now Hard feels like Normal and I've switched to Suicide (I think it's called?) The game just gets easier and easier with the tools and abilities, along with upgrades to ranged, etc. that you get. Currently level 25.

There are way, way, way, WAY too many enemy forts where you have to loot treasure and/or kill a captain and/or kill a commander.

They should have limited that to a handful of really big forts.

I prefer forts, the more the better. I love playing the stealth game and the more often I get to do that by infiltrating an enemy base the happier I am. But I understand and respect your preference.

Going to start this game tonight, anything I should know before jumping in?
This game is up there with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided for having the worst introductory couple of hours. You're thrown in media res into a story that doesn't seem complex enough to justify such glaring omissions. But, also like MD, it makes up for it with a believable world and an insane amount of detail.

Alright, I'm level 40 now, done most of the main quest and am just clearing up the map right now.

This game is brilliant. Even as someone who has enjoyed the majority of the mainline AC games, I can really appreciate all the changes they did. Hitbox combat and the open-world WRPG format has done wonders for the game. No more insta-fail missions, no more tailing missions, the NPCs you escort can't die, all of it is great. I like how insane the post-assassination cutscenes are now, how fucking eccentric and fantastical they are - they've come a long way from AC1's static conversations and AC2's non-existence. In fact, all of the strange fantasy nonsense is so much fun, even if it doesn't make any sense in the series. After playing Watch Dogs 2 and seeing Senu as effectively a UAV drone, I thought it would've been dumb as hell. But no, it works for me, largely in part of the fact that I can make my horse follow the road automatically and then follow Bayek as Senu, keeping my eye out for enemies and resources.

On that note, Bayek is a great protagonist, probably one of the best ones since Ezio. I understand and can appreciate what Ubi were trying with for Connor - a more reserved character than Ezio, trying to deal with his personal tragedy and strained familial relationships as well as the invasion of his homeland by foreigners - but Bayek is exactly who Connor should've been. Aya is great as well. I don't feel as strongly about any of the other characters, though.

There are a lot of goddamn sidequests in this game, but I can't say that I've minded them. Lots are pretty high quality and I just like that everyone knows that Bayek being a Medjay is something important, which means they trust me to help them as some sort of wandering ronin.

Good shit, Ubisoft.

For those who have finished the game, I have a question as it's a game ending spoiler.

Is Flavius seen earlier in the game? I'm drawing a total and complete blank as to seeing him earlier in the game. I'm currently at the end with Aya and have done every side quest. Thanks.

Nope, he appears alongside Caesar. Weird, I know. What a letdown. The Hyena should have been the main antagonist.

Nope. One of the reasons the story doesn't work is because people are introduced and Bayek is like "what a betrayal!" but we've never actually seen or heard of that character before. It completely undercuts the idea that they have any loyalty to Bayek or Egypt.

It's also weird that you don't fight the few other targets. Bayek kills Rudek in the beginning, Aya kills two or maybe three and then Ptolemy dies via gators. Wish all the targets were killable via playing instead of cinematic or storyline. Also, the targets Aya kills should have been playable as well. That would have been awesome. So much great stuff in Origins but yet some disappointing stuff as well. Finally killed Septivus and now going after Caesar. Still a 9/10 overall for me but I was leaning towards a 9.5/10 until the last few main quests.

In general, I absolutely HATE the dodge move. It should have been a roll instead. And is it just me or does Bayek/Aya run SLOWER than they should?

The opening area (Siwa) kinda sucks IMO. Just get through the first mission or two to get out of Siwa and the game opens up after that then it's smooth sailing from there.
Also, when you're in the intro section in Siwa, the rest of the map is completely gated off. After you leave Siwa, the entire map gets opened up. It has leveled enemies, so you don't want to go venturing into level 40 areas as a level 5, mind you, but you can always fast-travel back to Siwa any time after leaving to wrap up loose ends.

Man this game feels so overwhelming. It's too big.

I just let Cleo and assassinated the Scarab. How far am I in the story?

Start using the cursed weapons when nightmare difficulty gets too easy, it's like a hidden fifth difficulty level.

Or be a true mejai baller and only use unarmed attacks.

In general, I absolutely HATE the dodge move. It should have been a roll instead.

The dodge feels so good in this game, it doesn't have any invisibility frames but it is super fast and has almost no recovery, once you get used to it you can ace most fights without ever being touched, and technically you can roll if you do three dodges in a row. ;)

So many of the side missions directly tie into the area you're in, I can't imagine how jarring it must be to do them out of sequence.

Currently mulling about in the pyramids. It took a lot of self control to see Giza and now immediately head there, but my patience paid off. Happy to see some of the tombs do have light puzzle elements, even if it isn't anything as intricate as Uncharted or Tomb Raider.

So I am level 19, should I be following the main quests or exploring on my own? I know it's open world but I wonder if I am going to overlevel.

Also, why must these games always force some sort of horse racing on us??

The game is structured in such a way that it wants you to move from region to region, doing all side quests before moving on to the next region. The story expects that you play this way as well.

Just an FYI, though of course do what feels good.

If you're worries about being too overleveled there is an option you can enable to raise the level of lower level enemies to around your current level. Its a good way to go.

Is tehre any way to know if you "cleared" an area of stuff (like '?') or should I just clear what I see and move on?

Only certain locations have items that count as collectables. They're technically "objectives". Once you've completed an area, it'll be ticked off on the map.

Edit: Oh, I slightly misread your post. Once you've completed all objectives in a given location, there's no need to stick around as far as the game is concerned, but it doesn't keep track of lootable objects that aren't treasure chests. They're not really worth worrying about, though, as you'll only rarely (if ever) be compelled to part with your Ancient Egyptian Dollars and therefore don't need to concern yourself with becoming a walking, talking bank vault.

OKay then, I wont kill myself trudging though the ass backwards paths as much. I will just hit stuff I can see and explore what I want to see some of the really NICE landscapes. The game is really pretty on an UW monitor.

Started this recently and slowly working my way through, hit level 11 and really enjoying it. The world design is sublime, and looking at the size of the map, this game is going to keep me busy for quite some time.

Dammit I've just fully upgraded the bracer and now I guess I have that glitch that puts both the regular & DLC bracer onto Bayek and can't change it. Really can't bring myself to keep playing until it's fixed, that lion bracer is so ugly and it's absolutely massive. Do we have a drop date for the patch (assuming they actually fix it)?

Anyone have any idea how to use my DS4 with uplay? Whenever I press a button it seems to switch to controller mode and then revert immediately back to kb + m, so it doesn't show any of the button prompts for controller and when I try to hold block it kind of ends up going into block mode and back out repeatedly.

Edit: Never mind, DS4Windows fixes it. I wish there was some way to get PS4 button prompts though (they flash up briefly when I tried using the controller without DS4Windows but not in any useful way)

Just finished the main quest and I'm not sure what people meant by saying that they thought the game had multiple endings before the real one?

Its already showing the new Achievements for me on Xbox for the DLC. But seems like there isnt anything yet available?
The Hidden Ones will release this month and The Curse of the Pharaos will be released in March.
I'm really interested in the second one. Myhtological Egypt would give interesting abominations to fight with this combat system.

If you drop the difficulty down the lowest do you really need to worry if you are fairly underleveled for story quests?

I kind of feel like if I don't burn through the story now I'll never finish it.

There are so many side quests and activities that being underleveled was never really a problem for me. You might be underleveled for the main story when reaching a new area, but that seems by design to get you to play those side quests. And like I mentioned before the main story is written assuming that you are indeed doing all of the side quests - otherwise you might not recognize some of the NPCs you interact with later on.

So if anything, being overleveled becomes the real issue, which is why there is that option to auto-scale lower level enemies to your current level.

That's what happened to me. Enjoyed my time with the game a lot buuuut one day I took a break to play something else and then just had no desire to come back. All felt a bit overwhelming and nothing really hooked me, I suppose.

I had the opposite problem. I'd go play something else and want to go back to Origins.
I picked up Wildlands the other day and hoo boy is that an old school Ubisoft game. Beautiful to look at but, at the same time, the world doesn't feel real. Also incredibly repetitive.

BTW, if you are interested in how a civilization able to build incredible monuments like the great pyramids suddenly stopped, I highly recommend this series of videos on the Bronze Age collapse:

I platinumed the game and i wanna say the best fucking feature is the fact that whenever the game notices you obviously swimming in a straight line (like towards a trireme or across a wide river), it actually spawns a boat that crosses your path, which you can then 'borrow'.

Such an incredibly smart feature

Can you get enough skill points to buy all the skills?

40 is max Level, but even after that, you can fill the XP bar and earn skill points.
But even then, it's really hard to fill the entire grid - and some of the skills just don't seem worth it.
Like spending 3 points just to have access to chariots? pfffft.

I feel like an idiot for not realizing that's what was happening haha. Now that you mention it, that's brilliant.

Might be bias on my part, but the boats seem to appear faster if I'm underwater. Like, if there aren't any around and I dive down, one will be around when I come up.

I have noticed that boats generally spawn faster, if you don't have any in your proximity or in your vision cone (FOV). Being under water could trigger a boat spawn much faster, since you don't see any and there are naturally non in your proximity.

If you kill some guys from a large encampment/base. Do they eventually re-spawn or can you work your way though it slowly? Some of these places have so many freaking guards.

They don't respawn for a long time - like a couple in game days. If you kill everyone in a fort and then go pick up a quest that goes back there, then the game will spawn some enemies back in.
