Loving the first 3 episodes and looking forward to where it's going. I'm interested to see what Maze McGoldface has to do with it, but damn the animation is smooth.

Looks better than most official stuff, even if the proportions, especially of weapons, look a teeny bit off.

I have no idea what's happening there, but that's some high quality shit for sure. I'd definitely watch a TV series like this.

I love how the Astartes are presented in these shorts as calculated, coldblooded, machines of death. There is no remorse or hesitation as they go about their grisly business. These videos capture the size, seriousness, and deadliness that the lore has always ascribed to them.

This looks like a group of 5-10 marines at most. It is probably a tactical squad (shoulder markings are not like anything in the lore). This single group is going to annihilate everything in it's path and take no prisoners. This is why people believe the 40k universe would decimate the Star Wars cinematic universe if the two ever collided. I think 100 marines could have taken the Death Star with little to no casualties. These guys do not fuck around. And the ones in the video are just wearing power armor. Imagine the carnage and punishment 10 Terminators would achieve. Or even 10 Primaris Marines?

That's really good stuff - well-directed and very professional. Will be interesting to follow.

Would love to see a Traitor Astartes version - Dan Abnett's description of traitor Marines in Gaunt's Ghosts etc. makes them sound utterly terrifying, and the approach taken here could work really well depicting his version of the Chaos marines.

Stuff like this helps convince me of my belief that a proper big budget WH40K movie would be the sickest shit ever. The universe is so "raw", brutal and over the top crazy. It'd be an amazing thing to behold

edit - I also wanna point out the like to dislike ratio on that video is damn near a 1000:1. Normally getting even 100:1 is extremely rare

In ADB's Spear of the Emperor you see just how quick Astartes are. The POV character is just a human, and fuck space marines are depicted as brutal and moving faster than a human mind can see.

I've still got to read Spear, but I've heard good things about it. DAbnett's my favourite author working in the 40K universe (a lot of others fall into bolter porn, or are just plain flat and run-of-the-mill) but ADB is a close second.

Always liked the scene in one of the early Heresy novels (possibly DAbnett's Horus Rising?) where - if I remember it correctly - the Luna Wolves just run through the crowds of people waiting to see what's happened to Horus. I think some authors have a tendency to romanticise and humanise the Space Marines, where I think they work best as barely-human (or human only in their devotion to martial discipline, brotherhood with other Astartes and warfare) but Abnett nailed the horror of them even when they're on your side in that sequence.

I'm surprised we haven't gotten a huge AAA 40k game from Ubisoft or Square or WB. Seems like the perfect universe for a third person RPG a la Witcher, or a first person shooter RPG

Since Space Marines, it's been all Space Hulk and strategy games. And Deathwing was basically just first person Space Hulk

Space Marines was a better GoW game than GoW could ever be.
Shame it didn't get any sequels :(

I think the best way to make an "intro" 40k movie would be to make a Space Hulk movie. Part horror, part action, tension the whole way through.

Sort of OT, Spear might be my favorite book of all time, it's absolutely incredible.

I've only ever browsed wikis or played some of the games so I know the general gists of the universe. What are some good books to read if I always found 40k fascinating? Keep in mind again I'm not super knowledgeable about it.

Saving for when I get home to watch. Love all this new content.

Can't wait to see how the new animated series turns out with GW backing Richard Boylan to do it. They let him finish Helsreach and then backed him, I hope it works out for GW so other companies see what happens when you support creativity instead of shutting it down.

Don't know shit about warhammer beyond the occasional meme but god damn, these guys are fuckin' murder beasts. Its just like, why even? Just blow your selves up. It aint gonna work. 1:05 - 1:08 in part 3 perfectly encapsulates this.

I loved Space Marine. I'd still play it if my 360 still worked. I wish Sega would finish the series. I believe it was supposed to be a trilogy.

Damn the weapons are so punchy and on point who the brutality of 40K. Especially seeing the guardsman who gets blown in two by a bolter.

Love it!

The Eisenhorn and then Ravenor series are great starts, they give a more human feel to the universe. If you want crusaders in space hitting screaming murder mushrooms, Helsreach is a great place as well. Helsreach also has 2 speeches by the main character that will make you want to go outside and bench press a car.

Beyond those, Gaunt's Ghosts. Gaunt's Ghosts, Gaunt's Ghosts, and Gaunt's Ghosts. Those books are awesome! Get the omnibuses, since they include some of the shorts as well. You want to experience the horrors of the 40k universe firsthand from the perspective of a normal human, you read Gaunt's Ghosts.

You want a bit more humor to your 40k, check out the Ciaphas Cain novels.

If you want a combination of bolter porn and 40k horror, check out the Ultramarine novel series. That's got some grimdark shit going on in it.

Anything by Dan Abnett, he writes fantastic characters and is terrific at bringing the world to life although he does tend to focus on normal humans more than the Space Marines. There are tons of books by a lot of authors so like many fictional worlds that are realized by numerous people, expect to see discrepancies and different takes on the same thing over time.

I literally just watched these shorts last night and the third part in particular really does a good job of showing just how implacable the Astartes are, once they're unleashed, that's it, you're fucked.
