Schumer says he finds the timing of Sessions' resignation "suspect." He says protecting the Mueller investigation from interference "is paramount." Hopes Senate Republicans would join Democrats in "thwarting" any constitutional crisis targeting Mueller.

Fatass can flail all he wants. We have the House, we have subpoena power, and Mueller is accustomed to dealing with people who try to literally kill investigations when they're cornered.

Within weeks, all of us - the public, Washington, everyone - will know exactly how guilty Trump is.

So they will shut down the investigation and then in 2 months we'll have a public testimony from Mueller?

You are right of course. This would be a setback but a very minor one.

  5. Due to FOIA, it would be very improper and illegal to destroy documents.

He’ll also likely release things favorable to the administration to muddy the waters for the public around the investigation.

You cannot destroy the knowledge of those documents, or of the people who did the work - so lets say Trump destoys it all, In january Dems hire all those people back, the next investigation wouldn't take very long, they know all the answers and where to find them (and I'm pretty sure they won't actually destroy all the copies of everything..a binder or two or 40 probably have gone to safe places.

I just think Trump hates Sessions.

It's worth remembering that the Mueller investigation started in May 2017 and has likely found most of what there is to find. So much of what the Trump campaign was doing was shady, mendacious and greedy as all hell but if the US senate doesn't care about anything but their own continued power and control of the WH than that's that.

It's also unlikely that this investigation was going to be the silver bullet Tump haters were hoping for when the Russian collusion investigation started.

Time for dems to reintroduce the legislation protecting Mueller. Republicans will kill it of course, but it needs to be on the record.

Probably enough time to get rid of any evidence that was gathered against him and his family. Hope Mueller has a plan for this.

The Independent Counsel existed because of a law that was passed after Watergate. The law was allowed to expire in 1999. The Special Counsel is a position that can only be appointed by the AG.

What the fuck is this week shit?

Suspect? Its outright blatant and transparent! Like EVERYTHING this fucker does from day 1

There is no wiggle room or gray areas here. If they back Trump and protect him from criminal liability you need to use every tool at your disposal

Yet another bipartisan call to the void

The Mueller report coming out must be apocalyptic, so they feel like they have nothing to lose by swinging at the fences and hoping the public will accept him anyway.

Looks like Trumpy needs a diaper change. He just lost his shit right after the midterms. I can't imagine what he'll do when the house starts shoving subpoenas down his throat faster than he inhales burgers.

I can't help but think this is a really DUMB idea by Trump. ESPECIALLY right now.

This is something Trump should have done in late 2017. Strategically speaking.

Doing this now, right after losing the House, the day AFTER the election, is so fucking blatant and obvious that I can't wrap my head around how he can spin this other than a desperate act to end the Russia Investigation before it leads to either his impeachment, indictments for his family, or both.

It is textbook obstruction and it's not even subtle.
