We likely wont have to wait too long to get an idea around Spider-Mans performance

I suspect if the title is performing strongly on a global level Sony / Marvel will want to publish PR soon to continue to spread momentum

Thanks Aqua.

So if no PR by the 20th, disappointment/flop confirmed!

I know your joking but nah. Still though considering Sony typically releases PR around the performance of their major exclusive performers (Horizon, Uncharted 4, God of War, etc being recent examples) it would be surprising if we dont hear anything officially before the end of the month.

I am really curious how Spidey will perform in non US markets though.

Keep in mind September is a big month. Spidey, NBA 2K, Destiny 2 Forsaken Legendary Edition, NHL19 etc. So dont expect too high of a placing on the NPD chart

Aye, September is indeed quite the thing this year. Well even if it doesn't chart (I hope it does) I'll be happy to know it probably did relatively well for itself. Anything to get Square Enix to keep sending those games over here.

Under 15K physical at launch in the USA is "did well" to you? I don't think so. It had a bad launch in the USA along with WarioWare Gold, even though it launched late in the month. I think people on this forum have a tendency to overlook the Switch's sales deficiencies. Maybe that's because there really isn't much hard Western data out there. I understand it's a very popular platform in terms of hardware sell-through, but that doesn't always translate software-wise.

I find that handheld systems lend themselves really well to download titles. Obviously R4 on DS had the whole "free games" thing going for it, but a lot of people who buy their games would then put them digitally on R4 just for convenience. 3DS had some really bright digital spots like Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem at launch and any other titles that you want always available on the system. Personally, I want WWGold, but only when I can get it on sale digitally some way or another, for example.

Physical would still trump digital, especially in the long-run, so if it falls flat physically, digital isn't going to dig it out. However, it'd be good to get some digital idea from Nintendo, too, since Switch is much like a portable system even though it can do both. Labo and any other games with physical components would have no impact digitally, of course, and I'd imagine that it's mostly the majorly pushed games like Nintendo stuff or big third-party titles that would do best digitally, as well. Therefore, Go! Vacation probably didn't rock the sales digitally if it was flat physically. Just pointing out that, as far as downloads on Nintendo systems, the handheld form factor makes digital much more appealing to people who buy more than a handful of games.

By Dragon Quest standards in the West, should do really well for itself. It's going to be hugely overshadowed by Spidey blog course so dont expect anything too crazy but healthy sales none the less.

How about compared to Persona 5 and Octopath? since those sold better than any DQ game in the west.

Crazy how much SW is going to be sold at the end of this year. To follow up that stacked September you have RDR2 and COD in October. Then you have the likes of Pokemon and smash bros in the holidays. It's going to be such an enormous end to the year.

Persona 5 and Octopath both had significantly less competition. Thus they had a lot more coverage by mainstream outlets. SE's launch date for DQXI couldn't be worse, so even after stellar reviews because of the hype surrounding other releases it will get a lot less coverage compared to what an August release would have done for the game.

Superheroes dominating everything, and I got bored after the first Avengers movie, I just don't feel the hype.

What do you define as underwhelming for Let's Go? In the S/M range, in the OR/AS range or in the US/UM range?

I'm fairly sure it will sell less than S/M in the first month, but that's obvious.
That is fair. I'm enjoying Marvel's current run and even I'm drained somewhat.

Didn't see this posted already. MatP's expectation posted a day before Spider-Man's release.

I don't think Octopath has necessarily done better than DQ8 or DQ9.
According to previous NPD thread, Octopath launched lower than Xenoblade 2, which was around 280k.
DQ8 sold 430k in North America.

How about Shadow Of The Tomb Raider? Any info about preorders?

Should do better than Rise thanks to being on PS4, Xbox One, and PS4 all at once. Things were looking pretty rough for it a bit back but its picked up recently. I'm still not feeling particularly strong on its performance pre launch but I'm also not anticipating it being an outright "flop".

Yeah Q4 is going to be enormous. Probably the biggest end of the year of this generation in terms of overall software performance

Benji what about RDR 2? We all know is going to do really well but do you have any info about pre orders? Maybe a comparison with other big blockbusters of this gen?

I wonder if Labo will sell above 20K this month (unlike July). We are getting close to the holiday season and it would be nice to see a positive upswing in sales this month for the beleaguered platform.
Thanks for the insight as always.

It's pretty clear at this point there is absolutely no way Nintendo expected it to sell this slow. People desperately hanging on to old PR and "wait for Christmas" are going to be sorely disappointed.

15K for Go Vacation is sad, I should really pick it up but that 50 dollar price point stings.

Sony breaking their historical record 2 times in a single year would be insane.
