Does anyone know of a domestic carrier for flights to north QLD that is not a bloody rip off?

I have to get to Cairns next week and the return flights on the major domestic airlines are 400-500 bucks, some going as high at 800 bucks? What the fuck. Been looking at flights for 2 weeks...can get cheaper tickets with full baggage and meals to other countries.

That's where they make the bulk of their money. I had to fly out to Orange on short notice for work, checked the invoice and it was 1900~ return. Granted the return leg was flex but I've spent way less going out of the country. The well traveled routes are cheap but the ones less traveled are milked to all hell.

Took me long enough, but I finally jumped in on Assassin's Creed Origins. Love me some ancient Egypt history.
It's fucking amazing. Make sure to do the History Tour stuff afterwards, incredibly impressive. Wish they'd do the same with Odyssey but damn that would've been a ton of work.

Both the expansions are worthwhile too. Highly recommend, Hidden Ones is the weaker of the two if you have to choose.

Will definitely check out discovery mode post game. I got the game and all DLC in the Xmas steam sale, so I'm good to go!! Hoping to get a similar deal with Odyssey this year.

Do any of you have experience getting rid of old PC parts? I've got two spare cases (mid size and small) that have been sitting in my cupboard for far too long. Usually I'd put parts on OCAU but they can be a bit draining.

That's a good point. I have old graphics cards and motherboards that I should really dispose of. Is there a non-terrible-for-the-environment way of doing that?

my local council has an e-waste facility, so if you've already junked the units with no eye to getting money back you might as well figure out that.

Now that GTA Online has a casino that you can use real world money on, how do you reckon it'll be received out here? Will the OFLC (or whatever they're currently branded as) take an interest?

i think it's still caught by the fact that you can't cash out the in-game currency into real money yet which is where a lot of the grey area lies. Because Parliament is such a fuck up right now it's not going to go into legislation at the federal level unless Steele-John can make a significant push (and he might), so that's where the case law is at at last glance.

Donate to a recycle place, tons around that specifically ask for PC parts
Thats a good idea, I'll have a look around.

Our council is pretty rubbish tbh. Going by their usual rates the disposal fee of the two cases would probably be around $30. Not overly worried about making money of them, but would prefer not to have to pay for it either.

Might sell some other parts, so I may put the cases up as well. As draining as OCAU can be it's miles better than FB marketplace or Gumtree.

Honestly, in-game it feels super scummy. Hopefully something gets done.

I just put whatever old or broken shit I don't want out on the street in front of my house and within an hour some scab has taken it away and given it a loving new home :)

What are you leaving outside on the street that contains that much copper worth stripping it out for?

The one that gets me is old couches, who on earth would want an old couch which was been used for god knows how long, and has been outside in all weather conditons as well.

I looked into what you said, and surprsingly enough my council does free drop off for E waste, I wonder if a case with a broken mobo counts as E waste, or if they're smart enough to ask to remove the mobo from the case.

Every year when the council does it kerbside collection, there's this procession of diesel vans puttering slowly up and down the street on the lookout for booty. If you put out anything that looks remotely like a TV or computer, it'll be gone within a day.

I'm guessing they look for stuff to sell at flea markets

I didn't think it would be so hard to find a replacement power supply for my steam link. I can't even seem to find one on eBay.

lmao, I preordered Fire Emblem from Amazon and it still hasn't shipped yet. i ordered from there because i didn't think i was gonna be around the local shops on launch day (turns out i was on Saturday, actually) and figured i'd be fine getting it around mid-week so i'm not too pressed but it kinda defeats the purpose of preordering if not only does it not get sent out on launch day, but it misses the next business day after too

That's disappointing. Mine was mailed out the day before and it arrived on the day (Friday). I suggest getting on the support chat and asking about it.

Did it say "Ships from and sold by Amazon AU" above the dot points on the product's page?

Super weird as I've received every pre-order so far on time, definitely hit up their support line

Maybe I'll try support chat if it doesn't ship tomorrow but like, the whole point of e-commerce is that I don't have to interact with other people in real time, so having to hit up their chat is just another point in the whole "yeah, nah" of this whole thing.

Yeah, it was from Amazon, not a third-party seller.

Like, the whole Doom shadowdrop thing happened and I was like "holy shit, Doom 3 on a handheld would've blown 16 year old me's mind, of course I'm super cool playing that while I wait for Fire Emblem." I live in the middle of nowhere, so I wasn't expecting the game to get here right away, I just didn't think it wouldn't have even shipped by this point lol

e: i've looked through the support topics related to this order and there isn't any immediately obvious direct connection choices anyway. it's all a web of links to different topics in their support faqs and while i'm sure there's some end point where i get to ask a person "hey, this game came out five days ago, where's my shit?" having to sift through all those layers is really throwing out the whole 'convenience' thing that e-commerce was meant to offer over physical retail

"Help" >"Need more help?" > "Contact Us"

I really like text chat support that a lot of sites provide.

Has anyone ever sent a PSU back to EVGA? I suspect my spare one to be faulty and don't want to test it on my main build. Still well within the warranty period but apparently it's shipping at your own expense, which I assume will be quite costly, as it needs to go overseas.

Anyone know if Amazon deliver on Saturdays? I ordered something yesterday and it said guaranteed delivery by Saturday 3rd August. I can't remember ever getting anything on a Saturday except at Xmas when they were playing catchup.

depends on who it was sent through. i think most of mine have been via Auspost. so if your local post office does deliveries on Saturdays it should.

No chance then, Auspost ignore us for most of the week and then bring everything all at once, never on a Saturday.

Just got the shipping info from Amazon. Auspost Express, which means it will arrive at the post office in the morning, I'll go in and ask if they have it, he'll ask for a card and when I tell him I don't have one, he'll do a heavy sigh, lift up some random stacks of post, do a bigger sigh and tell me to come back on Monday. Guaranteed delivery my arse.

That thread about walmart not showing interactive displays for games reminded me of when i was a kid, they used to sell shotguns and rifles at my local K Mart in Suburban Brisbane.

I've looked into it and it turns out that I am old too
I only ever feel old when I go in to work on Mondays and ask the twenty-somethings about their weekends. They talk about going out, clubbing or going to see musical acts I've never heard of and I feel about a million years old, what with my wife and kids and our house in the suburbs.

But then I talk to the newly divorced dad in his mid forties complaining about never getting matches on Tinder, not wanting to admit he's lost the battle with male pattern baldness (he needs to shave his head) and lamenting the lost vigour of his youth and I feel a whole lot better.

I know a lot of people here play on PC, I'm looking to build one next month but tbh don't want to spend a lot. Already have monitor, mouse, peripherals etc so just need a rig. I'm not fussed about frame rates and UH settings, so happy with a budget but semi-competent system.

I see a bunch of tech sites that have the option to build custom PC's or order parts and DIY, any recommendations on where to order from? Thanks.

Go with something like this

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 with cooler
Mobo: B450 motherboard
RAM: 16GB DDR4, can be anywhere from 2400MHz to 3200MHz
GPU: AMD 580, take your pick, 2-3 fans
SSD: definitely get an SSD, either a SATA one or an NVMe if your motherboard supports it. NVMe is much quicker than SATA
HDD: Get a 1-2 TB HDD just so you have some space for non gaming files to go.
PSU: 500W, preferably modular
Case: Make sure you get something with some fans and a decent bit of space on the back of the motherboard side panel for cable management.

You'll probably end up around $1,000 with a setup like that.
