Had some fun rounds tonight with a guy on the opposite team who liked to complain about the historical inaccuracies in the game (while repairing his battle-scarred tank with a wrench) before he moved on to the fact that "political correctness" had ruined the game and was spitting on the legacy of WW2 vets (somehow).

Thankfully, when I and some other folks started calling him on his shit, he went full neo-Nazi and raged about a multitude of the usual racist nonsense before leaving. Just so happens he was a dog shit at the game as well.

Biggest thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on BO4 is the fact that there's a season pass, that shit is gross but so is releasing a literal Alpha as a paid final product soooo, BO4 impressions go!
There were some problems early on but most stuff worked and there were lots of patches. As someone who prefers the pace of BF more I really like BlackOut but hated most of the regular MP. Found I was being killed by other players a lot due to aging reflexes and the advantages you get from levelled up weapons. So as a new player you are at a big disadvantage. Hardcore mode was a lot better. I still find recent CoD maps far too samey in terms of how they play - rat runs which heavily support a particular style of play.

Content wise it has no proper SP but there is regular MP with a stack of modes, Zombies and BlackOut. The real kicker for me though is that it's a premium priced title, with a hefty priced season pass, micro-transactions *and* battle-pass type stuff. They got all those angles covered. So for someone who largely just enjoyed BlackOut I stopped playing when BFV came out and haven't booted it up since. I'll go back and retry BlackOut now I am waiting for BFV bug fixes.

As far as BFV goes I think it would be a big mistake to kick off another round of ToW without a patch of some of the issues - particularly tracking problems. I'd like to see some communication of what they have fixes for already, what they are working on as a priority and when we can expect to see some of these too.

I've been playing every BF since 1942 but skipped 4 and 1 and was very intrigued by the game, but reviews + the negative media really turned me off the game, especially for full price... I finally gave in into buying the game about a week ago for 35€ because of the PSN Christmas offers.

My thoughts so far after around 35 hours of playtime:

Positive:
+ The core gameplay is fantastic, guns and movement feel extremely satisfying
+ Visuals and audio are top notch and more than often breathtaking
+ I really like the maps - Twisted Steel is great and Arras quickly turned into one of my favourite multiplayer maps in years. The variety is also great and for now the number of playable maps is fine for me.
+ Maybe it's because I haven't played BF since 3, but the squad focused gameplay really shines. Conquest is as good as ever and Frontlines and Breakthrough are awesome! Grand Operations are cool in concept (the Airborne part is so cool) but need some rework in regards of things like balancing.

Negative:
- Bugs, bugs, bugs!!! This is one of the most buggy releases (especially for a AAA studio like Dice) I've played in years. The game is so blatantly rushed out before christmas it really hurts. From characters glitching, getting stuck on the enviroment to menus bugging and displaying wrong things, it's such a pain.
- The netcode/server stuff seems really off, many times TTD is ridiculous and you die instant without getting any chance to react.
- The menus and load times are horrible!! The armory and company menus sometimes zoom in or out on items or display nothing, there are random things appearing in the background, joining a game but only having a black screen while being able to move and play the game in the background. Quitting a game takes fucking AGES and it's starting to frustrate. The menu as a whole is very unintuitive.
- Assignments not tracking, often times not making sense in regards to the gameplay and their variety.
- Customisation and company coin economy is bad! Things take far too much CC to buy, the stuff you can buy is mostly uninspired or crap, earning cc is hard and not fun.

Overall I really like the game and enjoy my time with it, but the negatives are starting to get worse and worse and frustrate. I really hope Dice puts all their time and effort into this game and work on it as hard as they can, because the groundwork is amazing and I could really see this turning into one of the best Battlefields.

Has anyone in this thread played Black Ops 4? If so, how is it in terms of bugs / glitches / gunplay / netcode etc?
I play on PC. Netcode is not very good but I haven't encountered any bugs. Gunplay is very good since it has a longer TTK than previous CoDs. I think it's fun. No need to buy the season pass since you'll only get two additional maps (currently) that aren't great. New weapons and specialists you get without the pass. The MP is really great if you just want to play a few quick rounds and be done with it although it has the same addicting rapid pace of spawn, kill, die, repeat you can play for hours.

I swore off CoD games after MW2 but this game is so buggy and DICE is so incompetent that I honestly thing there's close to a 0% chance of them actually fixing any of the major issues and I'm back to looking for a worthwhile shooter. Already canceled my Origin Premiere sub from auto-renewing and listed DICE and BFV as the reason.

When I last played it the PC port was awful. Two months in and it was somehow worse than BFV is at this point - constant crashing, server disconnects, game-wrecking bugs (melee literally didn't work at all), etc. Maybe it's better now.

It's really frustrating how every year we hear "This year's CoD will be the best PC Version we ever made and we care about our PC players" and then every year they release a barely functional PC port. And people wonder why CoD is basically dead on PC.

Boy I love getting shot by people staring at me as I spawn. So fun.
What i like is when you try to lay low prone behind enemy lines waiting for them to go away a bit in order to start shooting in an advantageous position and then a squad member spawns on you and starts firing like madman giving away your position and gets both of you killed one second later. Yay...

That's more you just dominating because you're better than your opponent than the gun actually being good though lol. SMGs are statistically garbage. The Suomi and Tommy Gun are the only two that can't get outgunned at every range in terms of TTK and even then they are only good up close. You can do well with them by outplaying your opponents but you'd do even better if you used a better class.
This. Now imagine that skill with a better weapon.

Tbh medic weapons shouldn't be as good as other classes' weapons. In literally every single Battlefield game outside of 1942 and maaaybe BF1 (and then only because there were a lot of cramped maps and tanks were crazy powerful so AT was more important than it is now, medics still dominated infantry combat on every remotely-open map) medic and its equivalent has been the most powerful class by far.

Give them some longer range guns so they aren't useless on big maps, but they shouldn't just be able to out gun every other class.

Medic is really a hard class to balance. It's probably the most important one when it comes to team play, yet most people will play a class based on how they will perform k/d ratio wise, with little to no interest with the class usefullness or even how rewarding it is score wise.
The thing is, with little to no health regen, make medic weapon a little too good at distance, and it will be too strong just from the fact that it has infinite health regen which other class don't have. It's also, the class which completely modify the flow of the game based on how many player play the class. Meaning you want enough of them so people feel like they can have some health back and revives; but if you get too many of them you destroy the flow of the game with medic trains, and kills becomes worthless because most people end up revived.

My brother and I were in a squad on Fjell 652 and our team was pushed from C down through the mountain passes and we eventually took a stand a held off for like five minutes. I was a medic with smoke grenades so I would throw them and then run into the smoke to grab ammo from fallen enemies and run back to our spot. It was a crazy battle and eventually the smoke cleared and we peeked the corner and they were just gone. We basically stopped the entire enemy rush as one squad in one mountain pass.

I see someone people don't like Fjell but I find it really fun (and awesome to look at)

Support have infinite ammo. Nobody else has that. Maybe they should only have one weapon type.
You can pick up ammo off dead players. Furthermore, healing and ammo isn't comparable in the slightest.

With the new attrition system giving medics the best weapons in the game would be a bad idea. With older BFs it didn't matter as much and they could get away with it since everyone had the same base healing. I'm all for giving medics some new weapons, but they need to be careful about it because it could throw the whole game out of wack.

Nobody is saying they should have the best weapons in the game, but a variety of weapons that aren't all awful would be nice.

One, new MP modes, I hate the concept of filling the game with modes that could quickly get dropped off the radar, or are poorly supported. Actually, since I primarily play Breakthrough, have not seen Panzerstorm yet. Which is annoying. Anyone know if DICE has said anything about porting it beyond conquest?

Also Tides of War....reminds me of Fortnite's Season Pass. I know thats it been successful there, but tbh im not particularly sold on the way live service is progressing atm in BF. Maybe with time (and bug fixes) ill start being more positive, but overall im not a big fan of doing checklists of gameplay things to be rewarded. With that bias in mind, how do you all feel about Tides of War?

This is the first BATTLEFIELD (Been playing since BF 1942) that I have stopped playing so quickly.

No progression and lack of maps has killed it for me.
I’m the opposite . . . I got the game for Xmas, it’s been installed since then, but I haven’t booted it up yet ;)

I want to wait a while until after it’s patched up a bit.

Those types of people are something else. They bought the game and gave EA their money, so joke's on them.

Some crazy takes on medic guns in here. The only real threat to a medic with cover at distance are 1 shot snipers. You can't give them an effective ranged weapon because quick peeks paired with infinite health will win all the fights. The problem with SMGs is that they should be dominant in CQB or at least solidly competitive and they really aren't. I think medics getting the shotguns wouldn't be terrible. But SMGs need both ROF and hipfire buffs IMO.

Also Tides of War....reminds me of Fortnite's Season Pass. I know thats it been successful there, but tbh im not particularly sold on the way live service is progressing atm in BF. If a checklist doesn't work, it's beyond infuriating. In general I don't like the linked nature of the tasks they're giving you. Build the snowman, but only after you do this other crap in a row. Hopefully the snow maps will be coming up in the rotation at the right time for you, or else you're going to have to lobby shop, sucker.

The other issue with the checklist GaaS stuff is... well... you really got to make sure the stuff you're asking of players is a) fun, b) doable without massive cooperation from the other players in the game. Shit like "build 5 weapon fortifications" where you stumble about until you find a place with a buildable turret and then build it before blowing it up yourself over and over is just a pain in the ass. I guess it's a lot of the same issues that go into regular achievement design, and the industry as a whole still hasn't nailed that either. They should mostly be fun-ish things to grind, paired with the occasional minor feat of personal skill.

That said most of the tasks in Tides of War so far weren't awful, it's just the broken tracking mixed with the locked progression that made it a drag.

It's not. You have to take into consideration that medics have infinite healing. If you buff them too much, they will completely dominate all infantry combat.
I’m not asking for complete global domination, but at least another SMG that can keep up with the other classes weapons in close-mid range battles. Even if we get that, playing the medic class effectively will still take skill. You can’t just go prone and sit around. Flanking, strategically placing smokes to assist the team in moving forward are all things that need to be considered when using this class.

I think the best kind of long-range medic gun would be something like the 1906 from BF1, where it can get kills at very long ranges, but only has enough shots to kill one guy at full health without reloading and is fairly ineffective up close.

I dont agree. IMO, the medic class should not have long range rifles, as the class is intended to stay somewhat close to the team to assist with med packs,
Revives, and distraction, (i.e. smokes to help push forward) Having a dedicated long range rifle may increase the amount of players using the class, but I can see most of those players just sitting with the rest of the recons on a hill somewhere 300 yards away from the objectives and the team.

Edit: nothing against recons in general. Just the turds padding their K/D from 20km away.

More Medics playing the game because their weapons aren't trash = potentially less MMG proners and less Assault explosive spam. Assault has the best infantry and anti-vehicle gear and support has infinite ammo, it's not like they have no advantages to them. Medics having usable guns would be fine just like it's been fine in every other Battlefield where Medic guns were good. Self heals don't even matter if you get outgunned at nearly every range on paper.

I was just thinking this game feels a lot like COD. I’ve gotten shot in the back more times already than my entire time with BF1. Also getting one shotted by automatic weapons. I’m level 21.

Hopefully the server upgrades will at least resolve the TTD issue.

But COD servers I think are worse even at the best of times. You will die in 1 shot. And there was another thread where a Brazilian guy couldn’t play Blackout because they don’t connect to North America servers. Meanwhile, I sometimes play BF1 against Europeans and South Americans and it’s very good. Playing on different continents is better than playing COD across country!

I only play BF5 a couple matches a day, that’s all I can stomach. But I do not miss BO4 whatsoever. I still check out the BO4 subreddit and some of the stuff they have to put up with is appalling, much worse than BF5.

The engagement ranges are way longer and favor mid range and long range weapons.

I don’t think it’s silly that people who play medics in a fps actually wanna play a fps and not some support role.

I agree. The medic class just needs something that will compete at mid-range and we'd be good to go. Also, snipers and medics are definitely NOT the same thing, just like you said!

I do when it seems like 3/4 of your team is playing as a flipping sniper and the rest of us are sent to the wolves without any backup. Don't say snipers back you up, I've never had a sniper back me up in a BF game.

In comparison to the last one I’d say they are.
Smg aren’t viable atm.
I don’t feel that way. Perception wise, there are less transportation vehicles like jeeps that help get to farther objectives quicker, but I don’t think the maps have gotten big enough in BF5 that it effects gameplay in a negative way. In fact, I like the bigger maps because it allows more varied combat engagements and I don’t feel like I am forced to join the meat grinder. Of course, that’s my personal preference so I don’t expect you to share that same opinion, but each class should be supporting their squad at the micro level and team on a macro level, and in doing so, should take advantage of the support that player can give based on the class role chosen.
