My game keeps crashing after the first big mission. When loading the mission in Ur Cruinne or whatever. Has happened three times now.

The performance of this game is to be expected for a game of this scale, and by a relatively small team.

Still, they are disappointing. I can't buy the game until the horror stories of being able to actually play the game cease.

Note that this mission is basically the first one that you get with low/no (?) atmosphere. That makes the heat issue much more acute.
I was afraid of that from the start (since I have a few really hot builds) so I deliberately slowed down my progress and had as many "resting turns" as I could. Since the mission also sounded longer than anything else up to that point from the description I was also really careful in the first part and managed to do it without taking any meaningful damage.
It worked out pretty nicely. But even with all that preparation and patience I still had significant repair costs afterwards.

As I said earlier in the thread, I do love how "non-binary" the outcome of missions is in this compared to most RTS and some TBS games. Winning efficiently is important, not just winning.

Yeah I realized that early on when I was assaulting the comm towers as I purposefully outfitted my builds to be heat efficient with their high heat weapons, which worked fine on other maps, and after like two shots they were close to critical and I literally said out loud "fuck I'm on a moon with no atmosphere."

Half my turns were just me resting. So yeah, that's a big reason I want to retry and alter my loadouts to factor that in and see if I can get through with a better outcome.

The deployment screen where you select your mechs and mechwarriors also displays the biome type, as does the mission preview, so you can always refit your mechs to suit the environment.

I wish refit costs were a bit shorter, waiting nearly a month to try a new loadout is tedious
I think the idea there is to make it more meaningful to (eventually, later in the game) have more mechs ready and select them based on biome. Because if refits were fast/cheap, it would always be more cost-effective to just keep the same 4 or 5 ready and refit them as required.

Load times are kind of not great, curious if moving the game to my SSD will really improve things or not. I get the feeling it's not a matter of the speed of loading the data from the drive but the game itself just not being super efficient irrespective of that. Reloading saves or just waiting to enter a mission can really extend things.

There are some load times on (cheap) SSD but nothing unbearable IMO. Plus i've seen load times like this on SSD on other games as well.

I bet SSD is a massive improvement over HDD in any case.

If we can criticize Civilization for its graphics, then we should be able to do likewise with this game: the presentation seems spotty. This is a pretty ugly looking game.

HBS is a ¼ the size of Firaxis. This is essentially an extremely ambitious indie title.

If it sells well and Paradox is happy with it, I do hope for a more technically polished expansion or follow-up.

I absolutely adore this game. I have now put eight hours into it and I wish I had more time to play it.

Glitch was my first Mechwarrior to die. I like the real sense of danger each time I start a mission.

With DLC content this game can grow into something really special. I hope they will add a proper Ironman mode in the future.

Also I have not experienced any technical issues with Battletech. I had more issues with XCOM 2 when it was released.

Canada, eh?
I know this isn't the common voice but I just wanted to come in and say that not everyone is having issues with the game...

Now I will admit I have a fairly beefy rig (i7 6600k, 1080, SSDs in raid, etc) but I haven't run into issues like other people are reporting with crashing. I have seen the odd hiccup in performance but for the most part the game is running at well over 100fps the entire time for me

I am getting my arse kicked.
I just can't get ahead financially.
I've just gotten ownership of the Argo.

Has anyone figured out how to edit the save files yet?

I think given the constraints they have to work with the game looks good. There's a lot of UI, and that is mostly well designed both from a functional perspective and from a visual one (just in need of a bit more introduction / QoL perhaps).
And one thing I actually wanted to post about earlier but forgot is how great all the out-of-mission transition sequences are, graphics-wise. They all look spot-on to me.

I haven't had a single crash, but somewhat worse performance than you are seeing on a very similar system.
I haven't moved the game to my SSD though, I should really try that.

Well RIP my Dekker. I had kept him alive for quite a while and then got hosed by poor play on my part in the Argo lunar mission. All was well until the 2nd part of the mission (being deliberately vague for those that haven't played it), when I accidentally had him use a DFA on a tank. I had been thinking about jumping elsewhere and had decided to melee instead. OOPS. It turns out if you have jump selected its always DFA, if you have move then its a melee. So I crushed that tank of course, but since his legs were now all exposed, the next turn someone hit him with some missiles and knocked him down. He lived through that, but aftewards was knocked down again and DIED due to injuries when his mechs legs were taken out. RIP Dekker, your Guts stat was 1 point too low for this world.

I got revenge for you buddy, don't worry. I did hire a new Mechwarrior to replace him though, I'm sentimental, but this outfit has to make money, so no time to mourn.

Welp. I fucked up on saving and somehow lost at least two hours of play, which happened to be two hours that I spent scraping my company back together after I ran into two Hunchbacks and a Griffin and got torn up. Now Behemoth is alive and I have a clean million that I didn't have the last time and my Shadow Hawk is better kitted out. I'm still debating swapping out the LRMs on my Centurion for SRMs to make it a more dedicated brawler, but I don't have another big LRM platform.

Interestingly the 1.5 skull missions I've been facing now have just put me against light lances, including a batallion's worth of very unfortunate Locusts.

Game is good. I haven't been able to play as much the past few days but I feel I'll be playing this over the course of the next 2-3 months. How are sales doing?

I've had no trouble running the game at 4k resolution (after learning about the exclusive fullscreen mode) with a fairly solid 60 FPS on my 1080 Ti. Moreso after updating to the new drivers. Of course, my machine is pretty beefy all-around, so it's not really surprising that I'm not having any issues.

I'm also a filthy save scummer and restart missions every time a mech gets cored (except for the one time where I was fighting against four heavies with a mostly medium lance and knew there was no way in hell I was getting out without any casualties either way). Well, I suppose it still technically counts as a "bronzeman" run as I generally don't do in-mission saves, so there's that. I tend to take it personally when things go awry - I always feel like I want to redo things with what I've just learned to avoid catastrophe happening in the first place.

I had the exact same problem with XCOM/XCOM 2 and have yet to complete an ironman run in either game. Just not for me, I guess.

The game is rocking an average 10k concurrent user count and peaked at nearly 30k. It's doing pretty damn well by my reckoning.

It's still #3 Globally on Steam and #2 on GoG, so hopefully it's surpassed expectations.

With a little spit shine this could be one of the definitive TBS experiences.

You don't need to be ahead financially -- just fight smart in your encounters. Evasion helps immensely as does general mobility. Also remember that Jump Jets gives you four pips of evasion, so jumping into cover/guarding -- or even jumping to a better vantage point -- is a great way to wait for an opening.

At this point, I'm thinking that Piloting may actually be the most useful skill.

The UI still needs a lot of work; it's not as seamless as XCOM when it comes to moving, targeting, etc.

Actually, what the game REALLY needs is a way to adjust the queue right when I confirm a project in the mech bay, instead of going into the queue menu manually afterward.

Oooh, just found out Unity actually gave users the options to switch to exclusive fullscreen now (since when this is a thing?)
You only need to launch the game with -window-mode exclusive command from Steam library.
Not sure it would help players with awful performance, but switching to exclusive helps performance a bit for me.

And yay, DSR works now. 4K 'Mechs!
This doesn't work for me. It's still borderless fullscreen with my mouse cursor moving out of the game to my second monitor

I do that as well. An ammo explosion next to the cockpit almost killed one of my pilots so I am trying to keep the ammo as far as possible from the cockpit.
Remember ammo explosion causes a pilot hit regardless of damage and location.

Also, not certain but does ammo explode if it is placed on a limb and that limb is destroyed?

I won a copy from a streamer but already have the game on steam.
Please PM me with your steam profile link if you want a copy.

Edit: key is gone!

I feel like it doesn't always (pretty sure I've lost limbs with ammo without the ammo exploding), but I haven't got cold, hard facts to back it up.

I've salvaged some absurdly big autocannons (like 14 tons big) lately, I just can't see any reasonable way to fit that on even a big medium mech. Got 1/3 of a heavy now though. ...

The Centurion I posted some pages back has been doing work, especially since I put my Gunnery/Guts player character in it.

The AC/20 can be fit into a medium but only if it is a slow medium (4 walk/6 sprint speed, not that these are shown in the game apparently). A Centurion can take it, along with OK armor and two medium lasers, the Hunchback mounts it by default.

Yeah it was a Hunchback I got it from, although it didn't seem to be firing many other weapons.

So after the first tutorial mission I get to this screen of the ship in space orbiting a planet

https://imgur.com/a/4pXlhJJ

And the screen just stays here. The lights on the ship blink and I can access the main menu, so it's not fully frozen. Am I missing something, how do I get past this?

I linked the image in case there are supposed to be menus or things on the screen that aren't popping up for me. I am running this on an underpowered computer so that kind of thing is plausible I think?

I saw someone else with this error and it ended up being a weird issue with GoG Galaxy.

You might also try running the game as Administrator.

There's supposed to be a cutscene there.

Well, run as administrator got me a darker version of the ship floating in orbit at least, so it did SOMETHING. Still stuck there though.

As a side note, as someone who has played through the tutorial 4 times trying to get the game to work now, man is it ever an underwhelming tutorial for what I know is actually a very complex game.

I think that's partially because it's not the only tutorial. There is one other tiny tutorial in a later mission and the rest of the stuff is explained via text when talking to certain NPCs on your ship. (I still agree the first tutorial is lackluster)

Hmm weird, it works for me, I only use 1 monitor though. The game allows me to use DSR now, which wasn't the case previously. Got those command launch from Unitysupport docs here

One caveat though: now the game would sometimes fail to launch with Rivatuner overlay on. I need to quit RTSS first before launching the game, only to start it again once I'm in the game.

The missions are so badly designed, it's driving me the fuck insane. The second big mission (liberate the whatever the fuck it was) drove me to the edge with it's scripted one shot kills despite full armor. Or the escort mission where the trucks don't wait for you and get blown up by the enemy. Difficulty is all over the place, indicator means nothing since you don't know what you're getting into and dat rngezus...fucking hell how thin the line is between coming home with 4 barely touched mechs vs 2 dead 2 barely alive. And the nonstop pilot headshots, come the fuck on!

Then there's the loading times of ps1 era, stutters and high gpu utilization for such simple looking graphics.

All that being said I CANT STOP PLAYING THIS FUCKING GAME!
