News reports are saying he was dressed as a Samurai, and the weapon was a sword.
My first thought was some right wing nutcase dressed up as a Knights Templar, but a samurai? Wtf
I was worried it would be another extremist which would really make me feel worse as a Muslim given what happened in France.

Until we eventually know more, it could be a motiveless attack, with just a loon dressing up and killing with no discernible motive. I doubt Canadian authorities would try to downplay a white supremacist.

I'm more inclined to think they just Halloween as a cover. Most people would be in costume, give them some time to exploit the confusion while in disguise.
The problem in Quebec city is that we have trash radio, and when I mean trash, I mean Rush Limbaugh trash. Of course those assholes will downplay it if he's a white supremacist. They are right wing nuts, COVID-19 deniers, anti-government and almost Qanon believers. Unfortunatly they are one of the most listened to radio in the region.
