BBC: Two dead and five wounded in Quebec stabbing.

At least two people have been stabbed to death and five more wounded in the Canadian city of Quebec.

Police told people to remain indoors after a man "dressed in medieval clothes" attacked "multiple victims" with a bladed weapon on Saturday night.

A man in his mid 20s was arrested shortly before 01:00 local time (04:00 GMT), officers said.

But residents are still being told to stay inside as an investigation is under way.

The attack took place around Parliament Hill in the historic Old Quebec neighbourhood. First reports of the incident came through shortly before 22:30 local time.

After his arrest near the Espace 400e business park, the man was taken to hospital.

Reporters at the scene have tweeted photos of a police command post outside Quebec's Parliament Building.
2020 just keeps weirder, the medieval clothes is the most bizarre thing about this. Good news is this guy was probably acting alone, so fingers crossed there aren‘t accomplices out there at large still.

Stay safe, CanadaERA.

I've read reports talking about a samurai outfit too. We're lucky no one else got killed, I first read about the two dead at like 11:40 PM.

Most of my close friends reside in that area of upper town Québec and everyone is ok.

Always fucking stressful when it happens close to home, you know the odds are always low it's someone you know but everyone thinks that, and it's always someone dear to other people :(

Whoa, what the fuck... Yeah he probably used Halloween as a cover to dress up with a sword and go nuts. :(
RIP to the victims

Just saw on my Twitter feed a story about 3 dead and 15 wounded, I hope it hasn't increased and it's not that high.

That's good if they are not corrupt like that.

Maybe in this case the attacker might be geuinely mentally disturbed.
The problem in Quebec city is that we have trash radio, and when I mean trash, I mean Rush Limbaugh trash. Of course those assholes will downplay it if he's a white supremacist. They are right wing nuts, COVID-19 deniers, anti-government and almost Qanon believers. Unfortunatly they are one of the most listened to radio in the region.

Maybe the guy is genuinely disturbed, that would almost be a "relief", but I'd be surprised. Remember that the most tragic and horrific attack on muslim in Canada was in Quebec city too. One day I hope we can get rid of those individuals creating a toxic atmosphere in the region. In the mean time, my heart goes to all the victims and families.

Here is the google translation:

"The suspect, born in 1996, was intercepted by chance at 12:45 am by the security officers of the Port of Quebec, near Espace 400e.

At the time, he was lying on the floor, barefoot and hypothermic. He surrendered to the police without offering resistance, his hands in the air.

When he was arrested, he had a sword with him, confirmed Étienne Doyon, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) during a press briefing held overnight. According to preliminary information obtained by Le Soleil,
he had been planning his action for a year and a half."

The translation is accurate. The fact that he was planning this for a while for me indicate that this is not related to any recent event.

Since Le Soleil is down, might as well direct people to Radio-Canada: Nuit d'horreur dans le Vieux-Québec

And add this tweet from the police:
https://twitter.com/SPVQ_police
SUIVI DES ÉVÈNEMENTS | La situation est sous contrôle | Le suspect est arrêté et présentement détenu | Selon nos premières informations, rien ne nous indique que le suspect aurait agi pour des motivations autres que personnelles.
Translation:

This and the mosque shooting a few years ago... what is happening to my city? It used to be so peaceful.
I don't think we ever had another deadly incident with multiple victims since the 80s before that and now we got 2 deadly events in less than 4 years...

I'm thankful that the Old Quebec is rather quiet these days since there is no tourists with the pandemic, otherwise this could have been much much worse.

I hope it wasn't a hema guy because I don't want people to be afraid of hema but I wouldn't be surprised if it was my friend who runs a hema school says a lot of the places have a fair amount of right wing crazies

Although if it was I would have expected him to have a sword

The news reports say it was a sword used in the attack. It’s probably not hema though, he was dressed as a samurai.

Maybe the press conference will shed some light on the background.

Just heard about it this morning after waking up, fuck.

This is terrible, no words. Apparently the victims were all random people.

Of course there are already people using this as an example of why the lockdown is making people go crazy, and that COVID restrictions kill people.

Conveniently not reading that it was being planned for a long time, and even if it wasn't it wouldn't mean anything.

It's now confirmed that he was using a katana, and chose random victims just hit them with his katana. He's not a Quebec City citizen.

What is wrong with people that they do this? Fuck. I immediately wondered if it was race or religion related. Seems it wasn't. RIP to the victims.
