Hey OP why don't you just report your first post and have the topic title changed to something that avoids these "spoilers"?

If you don't at least do that, then it's either because you love the attention or you're being an asshole (both?). Change the topic title and this whole situation goes away. That simple.

Perhaps they aren't around to do it.

I don't fucking care what you consider a spoiler or not. I don't watch the trailers or tv spots, I have keywords blocked on Youtube and other sites, as many others do to avoid this kind of shit.

And yet you didn't move to an underground cave with no internet!

What kind of spoiler avoiding fan are you.

Legit if you're so ott about this that you think tv spots are too much... you cannot expect the world to service you. It's up to you to avoid everything.

A casting announcement is not a spoiler

We have threads about actors being cast in all sorts of roles in different media here. An actor being cast in a movie is not a spoiler.

Boy modern spoiler culture is something. If you're so tightly wound that you can't even see or hear about officially released media I don't think you're improving your movie watching experience. At some point the anger and paranoia overwhelms things and you're just too fixated on that to enjoy it anyway.

Also funny because back in the day the biggest spoiler of the entire series was revealed two years before the movie:

Sooo this movie is gonna be Episode VI again right, like how TFA was pretty much Episode IV?

I'm alright with that.

I've met David Prowse. Seemed like a really affable guy so reading that he spoiled the fans to give them something to cheer about seems pretty on the money. This article is also hilarious at how bluntly it just drops that plot point right at the end.

We need to put our foot down once and for all and take a stand against people who are overly sensitive to the spoilers but also won't stop browsing a media enthusiast forum.
Today is our independence day

Good morning everyone, let's check what looks to be a lively discussion about the narrative value of Ewoks, I have some opinio-

Seems like the movie is going for maximum nostalgia. Can't wait to hear how I just didn't get the movie from the more......avid.....star wars fans.

The amount of people seriously upset that an officially unveiled piece of content for one of the biggest franchises of all time is a spoiler is... something.

Ewoks have universally been terrible anyways, but the vitriol behind the "spoilers!" is parody-esque.

Will JJ make the Ewoks theme canon tho

Just imagine Wicket coming in singing "WE'RE THE E, E, E, E E, EEEEEEWOKS!"

Just to put things into perspective, because there's a lot of "great" hot takes (not yours, specifically) in this thread ("OMG SPOILERS, LIGHTSABERS ARE IN THIS LOL!")
I am very sure that a possible cameo by Wicket would be a lovely surprise to many, something you don't expect to happen when going to see this movies - as opposed to stuff like Lightsabers and Sheev and whatever. So that's the difference between these low effort straw men and the surprise of unexpectedly seeing a familiar face.

But more importantly, this is not an announcement, this is a ONE SECOND STILL FRAME of a SIX MINUTE video about Rise of Skywalker. There was no announcement, there's barely any reporting done on this.
It's probably a single fan scouring that video for new images, seeing Warwick Davis as Wicket (in the context of characters from former entries), pausing the video, double checking to see that it's actually current day Warwick, as an Ewok, not young Warwick from the 80s.

giphy.gif

To call this an "announcement" and blame people for not going on absolute internet blackout is a bit harsh. It's so super easy to be mindful of others' experiences, it's so super easy to just be mindful of others. This is not at all in the same ballpark as the Palpatine announcement, which is at the core of the film's entire marketing.

There's so much more energy spent in this thread in name calling letting others know that their feelings or the way they'd like to experience Episode IX is objectively wrong when it would have been incredibly easy to name the thread "New Star Wars featurette hints at the return of a familiar face" or something like that. I don't see the big harm in doing so. Some of y'all sound eerily like "MILLENNIALS AND THEIR PARTICIPATION TROPHIES ... SNOWFLAKE ECHO CHAMBERS ... SPOILER CULTURE" boomers :P

The comparison to clickbait - i.e. inentionally obfuscating information to generate clicks for your ad-supported site - to simply keeping stuff that some people might consider a spoiler from thread titles. It's obvious (as observable in this thread) that some people would have loved this to stay a surprise, and for many of them, it would have remained one. For perspective - even though i'm following Star Wars on social media, but also shit like fandom and rottentomatoes, this reveal was entirely new to me.

Pretty sure it is, only this will not be considered a spoiler by era rules.
Even so, the entire argument could have been avoided by wording the thread title something like "Lucasfilm reveals surprise cameo in latest Rise of Skywalker featurette."
Not everyone's been watching those, and not everyone watches TV commercials in this age of streaming video.

This thread is hilarious, people raging at the fact someone posting news that was officially released is somehow a spoiler, and its about the teddy bears at that? I mean I like the Ewoks more than most I might actually go see the film now.

Honestly we are less than a month out from release. The onus is on the spoilerphobe to stay off of social media and dodge spoilers themselves.

Era is social media.

I'm not going into what is a spoiler and if you should be upset or not, but Star Wars is a constant retread of the previous films, i expect a set of dice to make an appearance and a plant-pot from Empire strikes back.

There's a difference between going in with a cynical sense of expectation and having it revealed beforehand, though.
Like - personally - the moment that Yoda appeared in TLJ was a lovely little surprise.

And to make it perfectly clear: I'm not super sad that i know Ewok's / Wicket will be in TROS. I'm kinda bummed out by the hostility towards one another here, when it's really entirely avoidable; and it's clear that those annoyed by the title aren't a fringe group of hysterical weirdos, but simply a part of the community who are doing their best to go in as blindly as possible. Neither would i call the OP a dick or an asshole for the title. I simply can't wrap my head around the "you're wrong though" doubling down part on something that is such a subjective issue.

Man, another thing to make me miss Carrie Fisher. Oh how great it would have been to see these 2 interact again. Leia and Lando would've have been great too.

Happy Davis is returning, of course, and I'm sure he'll be sticking his tongue through his mask here.

Right, by this twisted stupid logic I shouldn't even be browsing era right now because I haven't seen the newest episode of the Mandalorian?

The amount of resistance to someone changing a fucking thread title to something more appropriate is staggering, it is not hard to respect others.

Apples and oranges. One is an actual episode of a show and the other is official marketing material.

If you are the kind of spoilerphobe that avoids official marketing material it stands to reason that you should also avoid places where people talk about official marketing material.

This doesn't spoil the movie for me, but i really would have liked to not know going in. The element of surprise is a key factor of enjoyment in entertainment. Is it really that bloody hard to be considerate of others that want to go in blind?

You don't have to "tiptoe" around spoilerphobes. Just use some common sense and not post thread titles like this one.

To reiterate though - it's a one second screengrab from a 6 minute long video, which at no point puts specific emphasis towards this 'reveal'. Like, this isn't "Billy Dee is returning as Lando" or "Sheev is back" caliber.
I can't find a single report about this on IMDB, fandom, rottentomatoes, theforce.net etc.

I can only find a single outlet - one i've never heard of - reporting on this. The narrative that this is 'marketing material' and the Wicket reveal is 'unavoidable without going on internet blackout entirely' is - imho - not accurate.

Before you know it thread titles will simply be:

[SPOILER WARNING] [SPOILER.] is [Spoiler.] in [Spoiler.] did anyone except that?

That will be the only thing that will satisfy spoiler culture.

Hmmm, wait, how? - Isn't the commonly known factoid that not even Prowse knew during shooting that Vader was Luke's father - he was instructed to say "No, Obiwan killed your father!". Hamill was told the actual line by Lucas just before shooting the scene, and - of course - James Earl Jones recorded the real line. But some actors, apparently, didn't find out until they watched the final film.

So ... again ... how?!

Castings have always been fair game on Era, and someone being cast in a movie is not a spoiler.

OK so all these characters are getting exactly 3 seconds of movie

I have my doubts about this being a cohesive end of the trilogy
