Bernie Sanders, Pelosi and Schumer Find Common Ground: SHS should be allowed to Dine in Peace

Schumer and Pelosi's statements were general ones.

Bernie Sanders explicitly spoke about the Red Hen owner and that she should have served Sarah Sanders.

So yes, that last one is a lot worse.

He's asked if he agrees with Pelosi and he says yes, people have a right to be angry but they should channel that anger into political change.

Schumer: "I strongly disagree with those who advocate harassing folks if they don't agree with you,"
Sanders: "I think people have the right to go into a restaurant and have dinner"
Pelosi: “Trump’s daily lack of civility has provoked responses that are predictable but unacceptable."
Axelrod: "Rousting Cabinet members from restaurants is an empty and, ultimately, counter-productive gesture that won’t change a thing."

But according to you, only one of these is an indication that the speaker is an old white racist? You're reaching. Reaching so, so hard. They're all disappointing responses.

Yeah because he's a major part of this story, and I think it is funny when anyone ignores him or gets way more mad at the other two... and i will point it out. Everytime.
And conversely, you seem to place a comical amount of your outrage on Sanders' part in the story. There's a reason people tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just look at the recent New York primary for an example of what left-wingers in America are looking for, along with the general surge of more progressive, leftist candidates popping up. Sanders is supporting candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Schumer and Pelosi are coming out against them (because working against progressives worked out so well 2 years ago).

Fair call from all of them imo. Hurling abuse at people you don't like, while I'm sure cathartic, is not now the Dems are going to take back control of American politics.
At this pace there isn't gonna be much to take back.

The only defense I understand is that they're public figures, but they can still give better statements that don't cave in to concentration camp "masterminds"

He should get even less benefit of the doubt here... he's the progressive icon. He's supposed to not be them. And Cortez won because of her... that's her victory.

"I’m not a great fan of shouting down people or being rude to people," Bernie Sanders said. "People have a right to be angry when Congress gives tax breaks to billionaires and then wants to cut nutrition programs for low income pregnant women."
Also I find it kinda distasteful that Sanders pivoted right back into billionaires as if this is all that folks are mad about and not you know children being ripped from their families and locked up in camps... but best not be rude to those complicit in the act... that'd be bad.
Yeah I'm so sick of Sanders pivoting back to ... *squints*.. "cutting nutrition programs for low income pregnant women". huh?

You're not quite getting what I'm saying. I'm saying that he'll generally get more leeway for gaffes like this because in the grand scheme of things, he's supporting candidates that are firmly opposite to the GOP and their ilk.

Also, at what point did I indicate that the victory didn't belong to Cortez? Pointing out that Sanders supported her isn't taking anything away from that, making that particular point irrelevant.

He mentions the immigration policy, talking about why people are justifiably angry, later in the interview but it wasn't included in The Hill's snippets

It’s pretty amazing how efficiently the story of SHS being denied service at a restaurant turns into internal dem warfare. All cuz people still got axes to grind from years ago smh.

They would never return the favor if the shoe was on the other foot. That goes for just about every instance of “when they go low we go high”. You get to pat yourself on the back and that’s about the extent of the good it does

I'm sorry this is the same bullshit they said 74 years ago when germans had a chance to stop the nazi's and it didn't happen since a few politicians said the same darn thing.

Watching The Vietnam War right now. It makes all this talk of liberal incivilility look ridiculous and extremely disingenuous. Same with the people saying, “This isn’t the right way.” People really need to study history

More of this "take the higher ground" bullshit.

Because that's worked out so well!

excelsiorlef, and Kirblar are so freaking transparent. The two of them can't go a single week without making some kind of "Bernie Sanders is an OUTRAGE" post.
I dont think Ive ever tried to hide my disdain of the man.

Bernie also hasnt been able to avoid stepping in it this week in situations where political positions you take when running for reelection in Vermont have wildly contradicted the mood of the national party. If he wasnt a national figure trying to become party leader, Id let it go like when this comes up w Manchin, but unfortunately, he has greater ambitions than VT-Sen.

There is, but it's not a flattering reason.

This is an opportunity for both sides of the Democratic Party to come together in hating the Democratic Party for not hating Nazis. It is interesting to note who, on both sides, would prefer to absolve the politicians they prefer.

It'd be great if all three got shouted down in public for telling others not to do it. I am so tired of hearing about the importance of pleasantries.

Rich and White. A lot of people from across the political aisles argue fierce while in the chambers, but when they leave for the night, they have drinks with each other, invite each other over for dinner or a weekend barbecue and leave the politics in the chambers. They should do well to know that we, the public, do not have that sorta relationship with these people. Regardless of how nice they may seem, or how fun loving they are, their policies still want to FUCK US OVER.

I’m certain that because Maxine is black and knows her history, she is hyper aware of how much being nice to your oppressors gets you.
As do many of us here, yet there's still some fragile asshats tellin' us how wrong we are. White folk gotta learn, one sure-fire way to piss a PoC off is to tell them they aren't fighting for their rights and protesting the "right way", and you wanna piss 'em off ever more, tell them exactly what you think they SHOULD be doing.

To be fair Sanders could have ya know not defended Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
It’s about one White House pawn being refused service at one restaurant, one time, in the span of one and a half years.

This ranks so incredibly lowly on the totem pole of things to give a fuck about. We gotta think about how to fight widening income inequality, institutionalised racism, and simmering trade tensions. Instead we’re here so excited to eat our own over what is ultimately an absolute nothingburger. All for two reasons:
  • Posters who just can’t seem to let go of extra disdain for whoever it is out of the three for whatever small thing they did sometime
  • Purity bullshit mentality. It’s this purity test that keeps us obsessing over tiny things that literally don’t matter instead of the things that actually do, and y’all get played by the right-wing purity test bait every. god. damn. time.

What's the big deal with Ocasio? What's her policies? Quick Google search tells me she won in New Jersey or New York? She is a Bernie-supporter and some calls her a socialist. Anything else I need to know? Like, how did she win?

I dont think Ive ever tried to hide my disdain of the man.

Look I'd love for Bernie to head to the floor of the Senate with a guillotine behind him and to tell his Republican colleagues "The people are sharpening the blades for you if you don't change what you're doing." so I'm always prepared to be at least always a little disappointed by every politician in existence. And we both know that if he did this thread would be about you and Kirblar finger waving at him instead.

Not really about an axe to grind from years ago when this happens on a regular basis.

Along those lines, this “bitch eating crackers” line used to have a meaning that wasn’t “I want to dismiss the criticism you’re making because I don’t care” but going by what I’ve seen in threads the past few days it seems like that’s changed at some point.

All of them can kick rocks. Fuck her and her food.

Add to that every asshole who tries to defend her while having jackshit to say about the atrocities going on under this admin.

These 3 are morons to even respond to this story giving it more legs. Talk about unforced errors.

Why don't you like him?
I'll help ya. He dared to stand against Hillary. That's basically all. They really dont have shit against Bernie otherwise lol
