Remember when he was Vice President, and his adminsitration bombed the shit out of plenty of brown people?
Don't think this promise excludes some good clena drone warfare and state sanctioned murder.
Biden didn't make that call. Obama did.

I'm rethinking having made this thread. Biden's statement adds to my misgivings about his candidacy, but his words presumably come from a place of sincerity given the death of his son and his initiatives during the Obama administration.
The vitriol in here is something else.
Does he? Because he isn't saying shit about single payer/M4A. He says he's going to cure cancer (a thing he will obviously never do), but when it comes to supporting something people might actually expect him to follow through on (M4A), he's not saying anything.
Failing to cure cancer is a lot safer, politically, than passing serious healthcare legislation. That's why he's promising a cure for cancer but is totally silent on things that can actually happen.
LMAO. Enemy of my enemy is my friend. Two groups of people hate Biden for saying he's going to cure cancer:
1. Hard-left Era
2. Big Pharma
actually id like to believe he is not trash , only the frothing at the mouth of utter hate for him is trash, much of which leading to some on extreme left to not even vote in 2020. thats trash. Equating him to Trump literally is trash. not him..
Oh. So fighting mother nature is occasionally an admirable goal.
Because our climate is entering an irreversible state of crisis and this absolute ghoul thinks 1.7 trillion over three decades with no limitations on industry is gonna stop coasts from flooding and our food supply from collapsing.
the man refused to apologize to anita hill for over 25 years then had his arm twisted the week before his campaign launched and the best he could muster is "I'm sorry what happened".
Curing cancer is a over simplified red herring for a country where medical debt is by far and away the number one source of bankruptcy.
Leading the american empire is not something which deserves points for nice daydreams.
That's a really reductive, grand canyon sized reach to a snarky equivalence you've got there, good job on not engaging with the substance of the problems that his priorities present.
Do you actually think this is a good point?
Pretty sure the active left in this country have hated Biden for, you know, all the awful shit he's done and responsible for.Id like to think that when Obama chose him as his VP. most on the left didnt froth with hate then. when Obama won, they didnt froth with hate, When he was VP again in 2012 they didnt froth against him. when he existed the WH in Jan 2017 the eft didnt froth with hate. But when he went up against each persons other favorite nominee. suddenly the hate began . Now some always hated him , but they were far and few in between and now everyone on the left of center hates him because he is ahead of the favorite candidate. Call me realistic but even if i support Kamala Harris and Beto, I am still going to remember i supported him and dont get jittery with hate because kamala and beto are getting beaten at the polls by him.
I hate to break it to you, but from a purely economic standpoint, we will dump trillions into new infrastructure after most coasts become uninhabitable. The Feds who are pros, and aren't political hacks know that adaptation is the new paradigm, mitigation is a losing battle where we're at.
Humanity will shuffle on for a while, longer than you or I will be around, but we'll still have politics and politicians

I am not going to rewrite my opinion on him because of things that he said and did before he was nominated for VP and everyone knew what it was then as well just because he is not my favorite and preferred nominee.

This is from 2016. It's amazing how people post here without knowing anything regarding what they're posting about.
Nah, you would have to be outright blind or delusional to pretend it hasn't ratcheted up specifically since he was rumored to run. This is very much spearheaded by him beating peoples favs in polls. It's ridiculous to even pretend otherwise. In fact it was the opposite, creepy ass was laughed at in memed about "Ol'Uncle Joe" and whatnot prior to this:

I've come to understand that collectively America has the memory of a goldfish.I was wondering when he was going to bring up the cancer moonshot that was in Obama's final state of the union.
Edit: I guess the Biden hate in here made people forget about this. https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/CancerMoonshot
Liberals liked him. Leftists hated him.Nah, you would have to be outright blind or delusional to pretend it hasn't ratcheted up specifically since he was rumored to run. It was jokes, the raw neverending spewing hatred is new.
What is your point?
Of course there is more attention on him with him running for president. What does that have to do with the validity of people's ire aimed towards he and his past record?
Damn this thread is pathetic. The dude has actually been putting in work on Cancer for YEARS. He's not just saying some random shit. He been trying to do this forever, hell HE is who pitched the idea to Obama, who signed it btw. But the Biden hate train is so strong here damn.
1) Most here were probably not able to legally vote for Obama in 08 due to age.Id like to think that when Obama chose him as his VP. most on the left didnt froth with hate then. when Obama won, they didnt froth with hate, When he was VP again in 2012 they didnt froth against him. when he existed the WH in Jan 2017 the eft didnt froth with hate. 1) Most here were probably not able to legally vote for Obama in 08 due to age.
2) Politics was something that people can mostly ignore. They would maybe vote once every 4 years, but good luck with the midterms.
3)Trump being elected has gotten a lot of people more politically engaged.
So don't take the lack of "froth" then as some kind of hypocritical action. And it's absolutely fair to rewrite your opinion on a person after you learn more about them despite not knowing at the time. Look at the #metoo movement and how many careers were shuttered.
Seriously, you should have taken Eras temperature before posting this on the etc side. It would have gone over better in the etc hangout political thread, but over here, its a mess.
Admittedly posting it in Etc catches the eye of us dirty Europeans with socialised healthcare who are already deeply ashamed and upset for Americans you end up bankrupt due to illness/unexpected health complications.
So, such an inflammatory bullshit promise from a politician was probably not going to go over well read by outsiders. That being said, many actual Americans aren't too impressed by this either. Which you shouldn't be, courage would be somehow running on humane healthcare proposals. Not telling everyone to vote for you to cure cancer.
If an MP in the UK stood on a manifesto of "Vote for me and I'll/my team will cure cancer", they'd be fucking eviscerated. It's embarrassing and offensive. All the ongoing work and effort into cures for cancer don't go on pause/hold depending on who the President is.
Oh Im not saying discussion like this goes bad on this side because of people not in the U.S. It's because of the higher likelihood of being flooded by people that won't discuss it in good faith, and the people that just parrot stuff over and over mixed with those that blindly dislike anyone but their preferred candidate. The predictable goalpost moving, and "No true scotsman" fallacies are just icing on the cake. There are definitely angles to this that are worthy of discussion, but the OP isn't going to get them here (And he seems to have realized that too). There's typically very little patience for that level of discussion in political threads here versus the moderated one on the Hangouts side.
1) "Brexit means Brexit,"
2) HIV, not cancer, but "New restriction on fetal tissue research 'was the president's decision'"
3) UK politicians campaign on hyperbolic shit all the time - the Brexit Referendum would be the go-to examnple - so let's not pretend this soundbite of Biden's is special.
Because he actually has a chance of winning so people are paying more attention.he was the VP not more than 3 years ago and hate for him was NOWHERE near what it is now. It is driven primarily by him not being the favored candidate. everyone who votes knew his history because it is over 40 years old. When he became the VP nominee in 07 and again 2011 everyone knew his issues in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s, there still wasnt hate then like there is now.
Strange nobody in this thread is dragging Obama or even referencing the video...
Yeah, I don't get the purpose, either. So because people didn't raise a stink back then means people can't be mad about Biden now? And it ignores that seismic shift that occurred in 2016, of course. Some people may have formed new opinions about certain politicians because their personal politics have changes.Furthermore not sure what this and Cipherr's prupose even is in this thread. "Oh a lot of people hate him now but he wasn't as hated before so this means it's all manufactured outrage instead of literally hundreds of other reasons"
Yeah the dipshit Conservatives. Are you trying to say Biden is in line with the British Tories?
And you're forgetting when the Tories say Brexit means Brexit it turns into a meme where the left mock the shit out of them.
