So for those who keep up with this shit, what are the odds that he could beat the current WR? Let's assume he continues to practice, stream, etc. Is it even in the realm of possibility here?

Given his malfeasance even before the faked Donkey Kong scores, I think the saddest reactions are from people cheer-leading his ongoing lies. We have the benefit of 20/20, and the benefit of video evidence showing exactly what happened. This account of events isn't even in question.

When you act in bad faith, abuse authority, and actively cheat in competition, there's a reason you're banned outright. Responding to getting caught doing that by disparaging others and stacking lie-upon-lie demonstrates exactly what Mitchell is worth. Anyone spending their energy propping up a person like that is a step below even that sort of self-serving dreg.

As pointed out at DKF, his 'redemption' gameplay only reinforces his cheating. He can hit a million reliably using techniques that have been developed by others in the last few years. His faked videos show him using completely different technique. He can't hit a million using the play style shown in his faked videos. But if you're using save states to cheat the RNG it doesn't matter what style you are using.

I'm more shocked that there as donkey kong focosed forum, and not the modern donkey kong, but the old game
It grew out of the situation that Twin Galaxies was corrupt and their leaderboards couldn't be trusted, and the world knew it.

He used to be co-owner of the company that was doing the record-keeping.

As co-owner, he changed the Pac Man rules to allow a so-called "Perfect Game" to be played (after training himself on how to play in this uncharted territory). Then he set up a competition to see who could be the first one to do it, and entered himself into his own competition. And the community let him get away with it.

He was probably going to lose his own rigged competition, so he showed up one day early for the competition and stole the World Record before anyone else had a chance to play for it. And the community let him get away with it.

As he flew to Japan to meet with Namco for an award ceremony, the company he co-owned suppressed the fact that there was already a second individual to have played a "Perfect Pac Man" (in spite of his depressing theft of the World Record). And the community let him get away with it.

After Steve Wiebe broke his Donkey Kong record (as seen in The King of Kong), Billy Mitchell responded with a new World Record where he "accidentally" forgot to verify the legitimacy of his hardware, and "accidentally" forgot to record video of his hands on the controls while he was playing. Even though Billy Mitchell knows damn well how to properly record a World Record attempt (and as a judge has strictly objected to even the tiniest infractions from people like Steve Wiebe). And the community let him get away with it.

Eventual video review of Billy Mitchell's improperly-recorded retaliation Donkey Kong record has shown MAME glitches that were not known to be glitches at the time of his record attempt. Billy Mitchell was playing on a fucking emulator and passing it off as genuine arcade hardware. Billy Mitchell had access to genuine arcade hardware, so why was he secretly playing on MAME? Any number of reasons, all of which count as cheating. He wasn't using any obvious cheats like invincibility, but he could have used slow-motion to record a playthrough and then had MAME spit it back out again at full speed. He could have paused the game any time he wanted and taken a bathroom break or ate some food, or made save states, and then gone back and loaded save states to try again and correct his errors. He could have abused MAME's abundant cheat options to play the game looking like an absolute god, but he toned his performance down just enough to beat Steve Wiebe's record while trying to make it look still believable.

This was the straw that broke people's backs. There is actual video evidence of Billy Mitchell being a liar and a cheater. And he remains a liar, saying that his video tape was switched in a ridiculously elaborate conspiracy, and that even the video of his video is a lie. Someone perfectly duplicated his World Record attempt, in MAME, within minutes of him making it and before he ever showed it to anyone. All so that glitches that were not know to exist could be embedded in the fake tape to eventually be discovered, and his World Record would eventually be revoked and he would eventually be disgraced as a cheater. Makes sense.

You need to be a high-level player to pull off the kind of cons that Billy Mitchell pulled off, but there's a difference between a high-level player and a World Champion. And after being exposed as a cheater, I don't think there's any reason for anyone to respect him for being a high-level player. Someone should test his piss to see what kind of performance-enhancing drugs he's shooting into his veins, but he's a disgraced cheater, banned from competing and not even worth the test. And his attempts to prove that he's capable of high-level play (after watching better players and studying their latest strategies) do absolutely nothing to reinforce his pathetic claim that those records are somehow still his.
Quotes for new page as a lot of this is overlooked even by those who don’t like Mitchell

Man, you are really are that upset about a grown man being able to play a video game? Pathetic.

Also, not a new member. I've been active in the community for years now.

Dude, you are straight up trolling Donkey Kong Forum. Are you personal friends with Billy Mitchell?

Nobody is stopping Billy Mitchell from playing games just like nobody is stopping Lance Armstrong from going on a bike ride.

Ain't nobody mad, we are laughing.

Then, why did you make a forum cross shitpost and a "Who are you?", while you are making Trump comparisons in here. Hmm...

I don't think anybody is going to forget his shenanigans, but nobody would be speaking about this if it weren't for Billy and Steve. They are important individuals in this niche video game segment. If he is able to get water out of the stone and surprise us with a top score, puffing your chests and completing the cycle of toxic behavior isn't really going to matter in the end.

Again, I got back into the retro gaming scene shortly after the film. I've met a few of the old and new players and still do yearly trips up to Funspot. It's a fun thing that doesn't need to be bogged down by drama. Relax.

His comment doesn't come off as being upset. He's also not referring to here with the new member comment. He's referring to the DKF.
I was referring to DKF.

I'll put this plainly, because I don't want this to just be some quippy snark:
  • It feels like a waste of time to explain why unrepentant cheating, then a campaign of lies to deflect and disparage others (as well as the people accurately reporting events) is bad. There's an obvious point after which it's clear someone isn't acting in good faith, and that's why those people are barred from competition.
  • If someone doesn't understand the way persistent, unflinching lies alongside an abuse of authority has obvious parallels to the current US president, it's not worth explaining to them. Using baseless conspiracy theories as information warfare for a cult-like following has obvious similarities, particularly attacking media coverage and posturing yourself as the only reliable information source (without actual substance to your claims). Don't take it personally, except where it applies to your behavior. It's a pop-culture reference, don't overthink it.
  • If someone's primary interaction in two threads across two sites seems to be to as hostile apologist effectively asking people to stop talking about newsworthy events and figures, I don't know that I have much to say to them. Someone criticizing cheating doesn't mean they're against people taking part in the hobby; It means they're against people compromising the healthy competitive scene within that hobby.
  • If someone finds themselves regularly characterizing the emotional state of others in the discussion instead of replying to people's actual points, that's often projection. It's not conducive to good discussion in the first place, but it's also (usually) a transparent tactic to deflect from their actual points.

It was not the point were people did not think he could do it.
It was just on the summited scores he cheated.

Yes he is and always was really good at DK, no question about that.
Really good, but he was not as good as Wiebe in 2006. He can only match his faked scores from then by adapting techniques that have been developed by others since; not by using the play style of his fake videos.

Now he'll go for 1.1 million using the techniques that the 1.1 million players have developed and so on.

I'm not angry. You're continuing to bring off-site content here, calling me names, and looking into my post history? I mean, why? You apparently missed my join date and the fact the board has live chat.

Dude you've got 11 posts there in the thread you are trolling and only 12 in your entire posting history just stop now, you are embarrassing yourself LOL.

Everybody knows about sleeper accounts, ERA and the old site have had to deal with those.

For the record when I noticed the trolling over there I didn't even know you had an ERA account under the same name, hadn't noticed.

Can I ask for a point of clarity why it's ok to link to Facebook accounts and Twitter account but not ok to link to posts on another public forum? I’m not trying to be antagonistic it just struck me as odd.
It's one thing to link to another forum/social media page/etc., if you are posting about some news, or "check out this thing I found." It's another to link to those places for the sole purpose of creating unnecessary drama. If you have any other questions you can PM me any time.
