Thanks for the replies.

I'm not all that big on Margot as Harley, but I want to like this one. I imagine if I don't see it this weekend, I'll wait till it's on HBO.

Her Harley in this movie is flawless. Literally the BTAS character brought to life.
The joker that we see in this via animated clips or pictures looks nothing like Leto's Joker anyway.
I think they're setting that up as a way to recast the Joker in the future. Her memories and drawings are just a generic Joker that doesn't look like Leto (which worked really well here).

A Cavern Shaped Like Home
Saw the film with my GF a few hours ago. It was okay, all said and done, better than DC's recent efforts for sure. It was stylish with good action but the story is a mess. Too many characters, clunky storytelling, and a tone that doesn't let any of the drama have any weight. The film being called Birds of Prey is very misleading and they really should have focused on Harley, Black Mask, maybe Cassandra Cain, and Renee Montoya to tie into a proper Birds of Prey film. I give props to the film for making it clear enough that Renee Montoya is not-straight and Harley too, if you don't blink and miss it.

Our version was censored here. What did Montoya's white shirt/red writing say? There was also a part near the beginning with McGreggor and a few girls tied upside down. There was an awkward cut that made it seem like something violent happened. Any details?

Her shirt said something like "I shaved my balls for this". And at the part where they were tied upside down, Zsaz cut the face off of one of them, slit another ones throat, and then the 3rd one was about to be let go, but she blew a snot bubble and Ewan was grossed out so he had her killed also.

Keen on hearing more about the action scenes and positive or negative receptions to them.

If I had a dollar for every review I've read of a comic book movie that seemed pained to point out it was put off by 'the final CGI smackdown', I'd be rich.

It's also fun to think about who the BoP could possibly go up against collectively or one-on-one next time.

Montoya v Waller (not necessarily a fight, but I think they could be a good match against each other).

Huntress v Madame Rouge (had to think long and hard about this as I didn't want someone who would be canonically older in the movie's timeline, necessarily, ie Catwoman). Also, her metahuman abilities could be re-worked if needed.

Black Canary v Cheshire (as another inversion of the above - meta v human).

Keep things mostly one-on-one for fight choreography as we had the gang of goons stuff in this one. I wouldn't care for a Huntress v Canary bout because a) it's been done and b) these iterations wouldn't have any believable reason to do so).

Not sure whether Ivy needs to come into a Harley or BoP movie, but she definitely has to now.

I LOVED this movie. It was so good. Felt like everyone involved really loved the comics. Action was fantastic. Argh!!!

So...this might be my favorite DC movie since The Dark Knight.

Now that's not exactly a high bar to clear, but DC's latest crackles with a delightful cast, bone-crunching action, and zany energetic direction as confident as Robbie's mistress of mischief. Harley was never a character I particularly cared for, but unshackled from the Joker's shadow, powered by Christina Hodson's script and Robbie's roguish charisma, now she's a character I absolutely want to see more of.

Stahelski's influence in the action is clearly felt. There's a sleek tactile clarity and athletic showiness to the fights. Every brawl is peppered with oh-wow-rewind-that moments of choreography or combat gags. The whole movie follows suit; there's a playful zing to the structure, characters, dialogue, and palette that makes Birds of Prey a lightning-fast 110 minutes of comic-book crime-comedy hangout

Really enjoyed this. It moved quickly and all the humor worked for me. Ewan McGregor was the perfect amount of hilariously crazy.

Also, Huntress needed much more screen time. She was fantastic.

I've read a couple of reviews that try and compare it to John Wick's action - I wouldn't say it's that close but it definitely feels like one of the first superhero films to have noticed that they could do a similar style and Chad's done a good job. The funhouse scene is a highlight but there's also one with Harley on her own nearer the middle of the film that's very enjoyable too.

I didn't realise the hair clip scene had made people wary, thought it was a nice aside during the foray.

Thanks. Was there anything else pretty violent in the movie? We got the end with
Black Mask getting blown apart by the grenade
but nothing much else.

I had no idea about the breakfast sandwich arc in this film when I had an egg and ham breakfast sandwich immediately before heading into Dolby Cinema. But I'm glad Harley shares the appreciation.

Film was fine. Margo is a lot of fun as Harley, she's like the perfect fit. Many of the supporting characters, particularly Huntress and Black Canary are worthy additions. Ewan did a fine job as Black Mask but he's just not all that interesting as a primary threat, at least as portrayed here. He feels more like an excuse for the gals to get together and have some badass fights, which again... is fine. Just didn't find the plot very compelling nor memorable. Film shines at humor and fight sequences, which are very fun to watch, especially the police station and the final sequence.

See it if you love Margo's Harley in Suicide Squad. It's pretty fun.

I'm so bummed that this isn't doing too well at the box office. I keep thinking about how cool it was since i saw it on Wednesday.. Best DC Film in a minute, even considering the fact that they've been putting out better stuff lately.

Please give this group another chance WB :/

Yeah that's pretty much how it ends. Not a lot of gore or blood involved in that though.

Only other scene that I could see being cut, is one where Sionis is in a bad mood (I forget why) and forces a random girl to dance on a table, he goes on to say he hates the dress and gets her friend to cut it off.

Can't think of anyone else that could be cut. Which country did you watch this in?

My friend posted his thought about this movie on facebook and he said that it was as good (or bad) as Suicide Squad. Would you agree?

No. Suicide Squad was offensively bad. I quite liked Birds of Prey (especially the action sequences). If we count Joker as a DC movie, this was #2 of the DCEU.

Better than Shazam, WW and the rest.

Margot looked like she had a blast playing harley in this film, leagues better without being weighed down by a horrible joker.

Movie was indeed fun, lots of cheese, good times were had by all.

WW is still #1 for me, in terms of DC stuff.. then Shazam, then this.

We watched it in Vietnam. They often censor R-rated fare here. The lady and I even took a weekend trip to Singapore to see Joker unaltered. Pretty much anything overly violent is cut here. We got the girl having to strip on the table section in our version. But, Montoya's t-shirt and the aforementioned three hanging girls section were edited.

Saw it last night. It's so madcap yet feels perfectly appropriate for Margot's Harley. The movie lampooning the seriousness of Huntress feels earned here.

It took me a while to get into it as it gave me Suicide Squad vibes at first in the presentation, but it again eventually starts to feel right (and again with some payoff). The movie loves to play expectations and then skewer them with Harley's glee.

I think it does have some problems, I think it's more a Harley movie and a Birds of Prey movie. I much preferred the fight choreography later on in the movie as some of the earlier stuff felt too ornate for me to the point of thinking how is this move supposed to actually hurt someone.

Overall though, I think the fact the movie manages to erase my meh feelings on Harley in SS (IMO, she felt too carried by the visual design than the actual character herself) is the most surprising thing, especially out of a DCEU movie. Our showing was pretty empty unfortunately but this feels like it the movie you can show to people soured on the DCEU. I know I was getting there are was skeptical going in, but it's made a good case for at least sticking with these characters. If this is a sign to come they might be able to figure this out after all.

The movie does such a great job subtly reminding you that Harley has a PHD... and I mean that seriously I'm not talking about the moments where she reminds people directly she has a PHD. There's just a lot of moments where she puts her education to work without the movie going look at her she's being a shrink!!!!

I'm suing Warner Bros for a trillion dollars due to the pornography of the egg sandwich scene. Good GOD I don't think I've seen food porn like that in a film since Chef.

Not bad at all!

My only complaint is that the third act runs afoul of that unfortunate cliche where a big fight with lots of dudes is shoehorned into the third act because someone decided that the story needed a big loud climax, rather than an appropriately personal resolution to a personal conflict.

To the screenplay's credit, it does get there after the totally superfluous brawl scene.

Otherwise, I can't think of any other big missteps. Margot Robbie is the perfect Harley Quinn, and this movie serves her character well.
