I hate how we have to politicize everything now. You are destroying gaming. Plain and simple.
I literally laughed so hard coffee came out of my nose.

God man. Just accept that the gaming space will not be the escapist paradise you hoped it would be.

i don't really see many people protesting at blizzcon because it's a private event and they'll just get easily kicked out and know they'll waste a ton of money for a few seconds of protesting.
I mean, if you get kicked out, then you join the protest outside.

And there WILL be protests outside.

My best guess on what they are going to do at BlizzCon:

1. No or pre-screened Q&A
2. Cut audience audio from stream
3. Drop all game announcements at the start in an attempt to distract the crowd

How good could the launch event even have been when there's a huge patch required

"Welcome to BlizzCon."
*Diablo 4 trailer*
*Lich King Returns: WoW Expansion*
*Everyone here is invited to Diablo Mobile beta*
"This concludes BlizzCon."
So they won't refund anything revolving around tickets or attendance. That's obvious.

I could see them forgoing streaming the pressers in order to just show a nintendo direct style presentation.

I'm really not expecting very much in terms of live streaming from Blizzard, even if that means they have to refund the virtual tickets.

I think you all have this way twisted. Honestly blizzard can't do anything to change anything in China. What you're really doing is you're trying to grasp anyway you can have a part of this China conflict and all you're doing is going around lashing out at United States companies that have almost no influence on China.

I know this is not going to be a popular opinion but you could do a whole lot better things than trying to tear down Blizzard. There has to be a better outlet for your anger. Maybe donate to streamers who are trying to do something? Get some humanitarian Aid out to the people who are actually protesting in China? But seriously, trying to disrupt BlizzCon seems more like you're doing it for the lulz.

I hate how we have to politicize everything now. You are destroying gaming. Plain and simple.
"We" didn't politicize anything. Blizzard made their politics clear with their banning and lame attempt at a make good apology. If you want to blame anyone for this mess and for 'destroying gaming' look to Blizzard.

Re: point 3, I'm pretty sure that's how Blizzcon usually goes. Opening ceremony contains all the major announcements/reveals, then the individual panels get into details.

It's about an oppressive government, not mainlanders.
Only said that looking at website's like chinasmack if it is still around and how the posters the news articles refer to one another. From what I sa saw there is hate between mainlanders and hong kong. And the one who usually talks bad about the other is usually mainlanders.

You know, I had a niggling suspicion that 'some' of this anti Blizzard sentiment wasn't solely based on anti-totalitarian ideals, but instead might have been rooted in good old fashioned racism. You just confirmed my worst fears.

Also, this 'no political talk' rule is fucking rich.

Blizz can def take some political talks when they're being praised for including LGBT peeps in their casts, when they're pinning a little rainbow on their PR mouthpiece's clothes, etc. Long story short, they'll let it go political if they're on the winning end of the bargain.

It's all because this shit casts them under a negative light and they're scared for their bottom line with their Chinese shareholders that they're prohibiting this awfully specific '''political''' talk. If you truly really believe that Blizzard never was political to begin with, you're being manipulated like a fucking wack puppet.

And. Broke. The. Rules.
Actually he didn't break any rule. The ruling brought up when questioned was basically just a safeguard for Blizzard to ban anyone for anything at their own discretion. There is no official rule that states you may not do what he did. Why were the casters fired? Why didn't the collegiate team receive the same ban? Why did it take blizzard over a year to ban a known cheater while they let him compete in the mean time? The overly harsh reaction was to appease China. We didn't make this political, Blizzard did when they decided to take a stance on the issue whether they wanted to or not. They could have did what most companies do and put out a simple statement regarding how blitzchung's views are not fully representative of Blizzard Entertainment. Discussed it with him, or issued a warning. Instead they tried to make an example out of him. They took the harshest reaction possible and people noticed. Eggs on Blizzard's head for being the cowards they are.

How does a troll post confirm your fears? There are thousands of posts here on this topic that are authentic in their concerns and have no racist aspects to them at all but you choose one post that is an obvious troll as confirmation of something?

Blizzard just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about human rights (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw over human rights and basic decency, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Overwatch for either system, nor will they purchase any of Activision Blizzards games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Blizzard has alienated an entire market with this move.

Blizzard, publicly apologize and cancel your China bootlicking or you can kiss your business goodbye.

like I said I once on a blue moon usually visited chinasmack and there was mainland vs hong kong hate even in the articles original comnents even from the posters on chinasmacks comnents. I was not serious in my response but I love supporting the oppressed.

they have work to do if they want to top the Diablo Immortal reveal.
That's one of the most remarkable things about this situation. Blizzard was all set for this Blizzcon to be full of positivity and excitement after the relative flop that was last year, and now all that potential goodwill has been obliterated by their own shortsightedness. It's a masterful display of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Every one of my gaming friends and I have been talking about this, they were poised to have a legit great Blizzcon. With a new WoW expansion, possible Diablo 4, and that Overwatch PvE thing everyone (except Starcraft fans) was gonna get something to enjoy, and they just ruined it.

I've had a niggling feeling that some of the 'screw China' sentiment I've been reading (here and at other places), go beyond a critic of the Chinese government, and sometimes cross over the line and represent real hostility towards the Chinese people.

You're right that the comment above isn't really a confirmation, but it certainly does nothing to assuage my concerns.

The thousands of posts that aren't racist should assuage your concerns. You can have niggling feelings all day but you can't pick and choose just to support those feelings. If the majority of what you are seeing is not racist then you need to acknowledge that. The discussion on this site has been exceptional and not racist in the least.

Do not put words in my mouth. I never said that the majority is racist. I said I believe that some is. I still do.

There have been religious picketers outside for years. One of the benefits of the expanded security perimeter last year was that they couldn’t get anywhere near the entrance to the venue, whereas before they’d be right by the doors. I’d expect more of that this year: more fences, more security, more police.

When Blitzchung used Blizzard‘s platform to call for the liberation of HK, he handed the company a poison chalice. Although Blizzard fumbled the response, it was always going to be an impossible situation. Walking back the penalty is too little, too late. Blizzcon is gonna be an absolute hellscape.

Neither NoA nor NoE mentioned the launch of Overwatch today.
Yeah, glad Nintendo is avoiding promoting it.

Blizzard could fix all this without much of an effort too. Hopefully there's significant enough effect on Overwatch Switch sales that will show Blizzard that maybe bowing down to the Chinese government is not smart.

I was likely going to buy it before last week. Glad I didn't preorder.
