Top 10 gaming fails of 2019, looks like we have found the 1st spot winner!

Fuck you, Blizzard. I want to hear a lot of boos in Blizzcon. Actually, you might as well cancel Blizzcon now.

Man that's disgusting. Just canceled my WoW sub before it could renew today. Which is really unfortunate because I was enjoying Classic quite a bit. Not going to support this crap though.

Even the NBA and other corps are bowing the knee, I don't see this changing much for game pubs who are all about the bottom line.
The NBA didn't though, at least for now.

Watching the press conference on NBA TV now, Silver went on record saying, "If [CCTV] not airing preseason games are consequences of those within the league expressing their values then those are the consequences."

He also went on record saying the league will protect the freedom of speech of NBA employees including those based in Hong Kong.

Tencent owns

Riot Games (100%)

Supercell (84.3%)
Epic Games (40%)
Activision Blizzard (5%)
Ubisoft (5%)
Paradox Interactive (5%)

Also 80% of Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile developper.

oh you actually think china is a communist country
were the nazis actually socialists too?
That's like asking if America is capitalist, since capitalism is all about free markets and freedom of trade while the majority of complaints levied against it are the result of monopolies and corporatist lobbying.

You can't separate the ideal from the implementation in systems of government. If a system ends in authoritarianism, it doesn't suddenly "not count" because that wasn't the original intention.

Also, nobody seems to have raised this in connection with this latest incident, but Blizzard's complicity with Chinese state interests and propaganda over the Hong Kong issue specifically has been out in the open for months.

Here is a slice of what was added to the profanity filter in WoW back in June. (NetEase operates WoW in China, but of course Blizzard had to be complicit with implementing this update on the development side.)

The reality is that, if they didn't add those phrases to the profanity filter, then there simply wouldn't be WoW in China at all.

I'm not saying that it's the correct thing for them to do. It obviously isn't good. But while Blizzard is an undeniably prominent game company, they're a small fish compared to the Chinese government. If they got a blanket ban on all of their games, they wouldn't have any recourse, and it's hard to aspire to do good as a company if you're suddenly denied a huge chunk of your income and start spiraling downward.

Wow I simply cannot condone this. I play almost all of their games regularly but I guess that's completely over now. To see a company sell out people this easily just out of fear for a loss of profit? That's quite disgusting. Well screw you too then if that's how low you think of peoples rights. I now truly hope the rest of the world responds appropriately and shuns the company for this. I was looking forward immensely to what new games they might have in store, but now I hope everyone cancels their Blizzcon tickets.

What the fuck is this? This is unambiguous being an aid in fascism and throwing your biggest fans under the bus to do it. How could anyone consciously buy anything from Blizzard after this?

Wowww. Let's see how this works out for Blizzard. They've chosen a side I guess? They need to understand it's the wrong one.

It really is incredible to see a modern company, in this day and age of rising social justice awareness, just outright support Nazi-China. I don't think even comparing what the Chinese gov't is doing, to what the Nazis did, is even hyperbole anymore. Camps, forced abortions, organ harvesting. It's so obscene and vile. Fuck Blizzard.

Do we have any insiders on this forum with access to the general mood at Blizzard right now? There's gotta be some seriously uncomfortable employees at that company right now, what with them completely supporting a regime that is currently committing genocide against a group of people.

Blizzard supports forced abortion and live organ harvesting. That's fucked up.

You're not wrong.

China is absolutely running concentration camps. Everything from forced labor, to 're-education', to harvesting organs. It's disgusting, to put it mildly.

And Blizzard chooses to side with that? Never again. And that applies to purchasing any of their games.

This is really bad. I'm wondering how I would feel if somebody like Square Enix did this, or Capcom. Makers of some of my favourite games... I'm not sure I could still feel alright about playing their games if they took these positions...

I can "understand" the fucked up logic of removing the player, but firing the 2 casters for simply being in the proximity is unbelievable.

I just bought into WoW so this is... ugh

Might just ignore the remainder of my 1 month sub and scratch my old MMO itch with FFXI, unless Blizzard rescinds this decision. Which they won't. Because China money.

Um, no. None of this makes any sense. Let's not shift the overton window here

It makes complete sense when you're a spineless corporation that doesn't want to piss off a regime that brings you a lot of customers. It doesn't make it any better but I can understand the motivation, I'm just making the point that firing the casters too is like overkill.

It's still not reasonable but the initial story of them ducking under the table gave me a different image. They were laughing.

China is shit and I'll be skipping acti blizz games.
